Top 6 RW
Middle 6 C
Middle pairing D

Those are the needs, probably in that order too

Rangers have a monstrous amount of cap space for this deadline, more than they have ever had in the cap era I think while being positioned for a playoff run

I'll give @Savant some company here.

It's not at all a crazy suggestion.

Panarin has a top 6 spot locked up for the next 4 to 5 years. As does Kreider if he doesn't exercise his NMC. The latter brings a skill set that no one else on the team has.

Trading Lafreniere for Chychrun and then turning around and dealing Miller for a 2C would be a 4D chess move that could make the Rangers true Cup contenders this year and beyond.

For as young as and for as much potential Lafreniere and Miller both have, the Rangers are unquestionably a better team with Chychrun and a mid 20's 2C this year and well beyond.
Totally agree. I’m just a little surprised at where we’re starting to lean towards as we see less than encouraging improvement in the said left winger who was supposedly the most dominant/developed player in his draft year.

It doesn't seem like much when you write it this way but that's a massive grocery list.

Fil I think was scratched to give him a break and some perspective. And I think it’s a great move. I’ll be surprised if he isn’t back against Vegas and a lot more effective.
Sure hope so. Rooting hard for the kid, but I'm concerned about his trajectory.

Right??

Like yeah let’s go grab two top 6 players and a top 4 D, that’s all they really need! Lmao

We sold a 2C, 2RWand 3rd pairing d all on expiring contracts one year with Nash Hayes and Holden and the combined cost was astronomical haha.

We might be fortunate to get one of the three on the list

Sure. Love him on the Rangers.
But hope you're ok giving Lou your first rounder at the deadline.

Repeat after me....this is not our year to go all in for a cup, rentals need not apply.

Does a rental help you to win the Cup? Perhaps. Coleman was a rental for Tampa, right?

I think its tremendously rare that someone acquire a top 3 D or core top 2 line forward and wins a Cup. Its often tried but usually its the teams that has a core that has grown together that wins.

Why not sign Anisimov? I tbink he could be good for a 3c and allow Chytil to slide to RW.

he is still decently productive and defensively reaponisble.

to me its a low risk move. Worst comes to worst u can just keep him as a 13f instead of Mckegg

Coleman had an additional year remaining on his deal when Tampa acquired him

Given where this team is, it’d be a waste to bring in a rental if it costs a lot of assets. The only two that make sense are Hertl, which is predicated on finding a way to keep him long-term, and Reilly Smith if he’ll be cheap because Vegas needs to dump salary once Eichel is back. I don’t see either happening this year.

I think it's fine to add a rental this year, just as long as you're not selling the farm for it. If a team like Vegas needs to shed salary and has to move Smith, or if a player like Kessel has a M/NTC and forces a trade to NYR. And if NYR can get said type players for a 2nd (or lower) and a mid tier prospect than go for it. BUT NYR should not go big game hunting like Hertl if they have no chance to signing him.

I think the team is doing a huge disservice to Chytil by trying to force him in to this center role. He was drafted as a winger and in my opinion looks way more comfortable and useful there.

I remember a coast to coast goal he scored a while back I think against the blackhawks and it showed him flying down the wing and using his power to come across the crease and put it in. It was a beautiful goal, and it was him playing wing when he scored it.

I know the has huge needs at center, but forcing Fil into that role is not doing him any good.

If Panarin is out tonight, Chytil coming back in and being on the wing may not be the worst idea. I'd even look to put him on RW at that point.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Lafreniere-Strome-Chytil
Hunt-Goodrow-Gauthier
McKegg-Rooney-Reaves

We aren't where Tampa was when they got coleman, we need to win a round first

We aren't a Smith or a Kessel away from a cup, you're basically throwing away assets that could be used when we are ready, and neither of those guys is being aquired for what you're saying
