Derek Grant is an absolutely atrocious player who would immediately become the worst player on the team - worse than Greg McKegg. Why would we claim him?

We all know the targets, but if those were options they would have happened before VK asks for a trade. It's not like he becomes more valuable in trade talks after he asks to be traded...
timing wasn't right. We're still evaluating what's what. VK speeding it up possibly but I still think it's next offseason

He’s better than McKegg and is good on faceoffs. He wouldn’t be a bad pickup and he adds some vet presence

We’re not getting back anyone better than Chytil for that imo let’s see what he can do first in a top 6 role
It wont be this season IMO. I like the idea of Larkins speed and 2way game, I do not like it if he's going to cost well over $7M. The ideal scenario is he has a bad season in Detroit and we sign and trade for him at a reasonable cost.

Cap may not be an issue. Fox will get paid, sure.... but I could see Kakko and Laf getting reasonable 3-5 year deals once the time comes

Even if he has a bad year he is getting paid as a ufa. You think Seattle isn't going to be knocking on his door? The ducks? If he has a bad year it will get chalked up to Detroit sucks right now. He's getting 7+mil as a ufa

Not really, I'm just being realistic. You don't think Larkin's getting at least $500,000 more than kreider is right now if he hits the open market?

I want just like everybody for things to break right for this team, and I'd love to see them be able to make these fairy tale trades that keep getting proposed here but the reality is that rarely happens, and it gets really frustrating reading people try to devalue players on other teams for whatever reasons and then pretend that those same concepts of devaluation don't apply to NYR players or assets.

Right now Jones is more valuable than kravtsov. Jones played in the NHL, contributed at that level, showed that he can play both ends of the rink, and didn't mope and cry when he got cut before the season. Kravtsov produced very little with his NHL time, and has now twice cried and whined when he didn't get his way at the NHL level and had to go to the miners to prove himself, and now wants a trade bc he wanted a rooster spot handed to him.

I failed to understand why other teams would be lining up to try to take that on. He's not top 10 draft pick value anymore, he's disgruntled, unproven player who has an opt-out clause to go back to Russia if he's not on an NHL roster. That's not really that attractive for a team to acquire him and deal with the headache. We've seen over the years how these kind of trades work out their teams, and they usually don't get a ton of value back

Robert Thomas? More of a playmaker then Chytil, let the two duel over the next 2 years for that 2c spot. I think he could fit well on a line with Krieder if we move him back to the left side

Since 2019 he is literally dead last in the entire NHL among forwards with 1000+ mins in CF%, and xGF% and he is dead last by about 2 percentage points in both categories. We're not talking about a guy whose numbers are a bit below average. We're talking about a guy who literally has the worst numbers of any forwardin the league. And yes, he gets very defensive usage but so do guys like Sceviour, Kuraly, Sissons etc. and their numbers are merely bad but "worst in the league" bad. He is, however, good on faceoffs - slightly better than McKegg. He's also for some reason signed for another year at 1.5M. He would be a very bad pickup.

Really don’t see the point or why Thomas would be moved. They don’t have room for Kravtsov and Lundkvist would only be stuck behind Parayko/Faulk. Only way STL trades him is possibly in a deal for one of the Tkachuk’s, if even

He will still have value but that's why I see him being packaged for a bigger target. I expect him to get around $7M. That's why I said 'well over $7M'

1 for 1 wont net us anything special imo.

With kakko hurt we are going to find out if Drury will flex with kravtsov and put him on the roster. There will never be an opp like this to see if this situation can be salvaged.

At this point VK is a minor addition to any deal for something significant

Laf Zibs Kreider
Panarin Chytil Goodrow
Blais Barron Hunt/Reaves

Lindgren Fox
KAM Trouba
Jones Nemeth

Habs fan, was at the game on saturday. props to both your GMs on the quick re-build. Nice pieces and you never tanked, good on ya. Still not sure why you fired the last guy other than possible owner stupidity. anyways, nice quick build. *am high on legal weed*

I was the conductor of the Bennett train and Dvorak train.

I really dont see anything out there right now besides Larkin. Barron deserves a shot tbh
Larkin would be a good add, but I think it’s very unlikely Detroit moves him at this point. Yzerman will likely sign him to a big deal. They have a real solid farm and it looks like some guys are coming along faster then expected. Even Rasmussen looks like he’s finally developing into a 3C role instead of busting. Bertuzzi looks solid, Raymond is coming, etc. they are going to need some vets. There may have been talk of moving him in the offseason, but he’s young enough and he’s a hometown kid and their captain.
It might be possible if they win Wright/Bedard, but at this point I don’t see a really big advantage to DET moving him.
They don’t have a lot of holes to fill. So I’m guessing it would have to be a pretty big overpay I’d likely at all at this point.
I think our best scenario would have been Dvorak for the cost, but that ship has sailed as well. We’re going to have to hope chytil takes the next step or a PLD situation happens with some young center in the next year or 2 and go hard after them. Eichel still remains a small possibility if they can figure out how to get some team to eat some cap. With Zibby signed and Barron continuing his growth/ solid play, our 1st and 3rd centers should be locked in for the next 5 years. Rooney or a cheap UFA or Richards will be fine at 4C. There’s just not a lot of options out there right now when it comes to a 2C upgrade that’s absolutely better then Chytil. That’s why it’s imperative to know what this kid can do with the added work load by years end.
This is basically still an adjustment/tweaking year. New players, coach, kids another year of development, etc. I still expect us to be a playoff team, but by the end of next camp I see us with our permanent Roster so to speak when we buckle down and really start competing for a cup.
