Kreider will still somehow score 25 goals this year. He's also a very popular teammate that does seem to have a positive impact on the younger players. He's really nothing to worry about now.

This team needs another top 6 skill forward. Let's assume Kravtsov is inevitably gone. Rangers need to deal a defenseman and take a chance on a similar young forward prospect.

Regardless though, I think it's overreaction to lambast this team right now. Sure, their rebuild can be done or almost done, as in, they've gotten most of their pieces now, but it doesn't mean they can compete right now. They have the pieces for the most part but now they have to mature and go through the growing pains. A "rebuild being over" doesn't mean a team is now a playoff team. It means the acquisition part is over but the maturation and development part is just beginning. If they miss the playoffs this year, that's hardly an issue.

When Blasi comes back, Hunt should be taken out
I agree here. Gauthier should stay in. He played well enough and was more effective than Hunt. I like that Hunt hits a lot but he has trouble handling and holding onto pucks. He isn’t the smoothest skater either. He is a good option to insert here and there throughout the season when you want to be more physical. But keep Gauthier, insert Blais. Put Blais on the 4th line. Blais can move up to the 3rd line as the game gets tighter/later

Im not even saying that the lines must change since we are 2 games in, but it does feel like Kreider would be a more natural fit on 2nd line, and Kakko would be a more na fit on 1st line.

Also feel bad for Chytil who lost the opportunity to have some pretty productive or at least highly skilled wingers this season because of Wilson's rent free appartment in Drury's head

I don't know what Gauthier or what Hunt you watched last night lol

I agree if they plan to keep Gauthier on 3rd line.
If Gallant is thinking of sticking Gauthier/Rooney/Reaves on 4th line, I’d rather see Hunt.

If Gallant is headstrong about using Blais in the top 9, Hunt-Rooney-Reaves is a good 4th line

I watched Gauthier possess the puck using his body to shield it. Went to the net often. Didn’t draw the penalty but still played well enough

I don’t know, seems like enough for me in Game #2 of the season to warrant being dressed for more games.

Hunt is miles better than Gaut.
He actually knows what to do with the puck behind the net.
Not sure what this love affair is all about with Gaut and you can make an argument that he may have fit in over the last 3 years but he's no longer a fit on this team at this point in time.
He belongs in the minors.

Hunt and Gauthier are completely different players that fill completely different roles. The Islanders don't sub in Wahlstrom for Martin or Clutterbuck. They sub in Johnston for one of those guys and sub in Wahlstrom for anyone in the top-9. That's Gauthier's role for now, subbing in to the top-9 at RW, which then moves someone like Goodrow, Kreider or Blais over to LW if needed depending on who he is filling in for.

Get lost in the Deep End for Brennan Othman's Best Friend
God forbid if things turned really south I could see us finishing 29th.
Arizona and Detroit are definitely in tank mode and the Canadians don’t know it yet but they are a bad hockey club so no matter how much things can go wrong I believe those three will finish at the bottom.
But if we can’t win the cup this year , Shane Wright is definitely a great second place prize. I’ll give us odds at 51-1.

And frankly with Kravtsov gone his chances of sticking have improved tremendously. It's a great last chance opportunity for the kid to really prove himself.

I don't think anyone here thinks that Blais-Chytil-Goodrow should be the third line long term. That's not a good situation for Fil.

Friedman again ties JE to Vegas today. Says the hang up is Krebs.
Not surprised at all. Vegas has no high end young talent that they can really afford to part with. They need Krebs and his ELC along with Jack Eichel and not the other way around. Buffalo doesn't want Riley Smith or any of the older vets Vegas would need to get rid off in order to make it work long term.

50/50 they can make the playoffs. Maybe because of their complete lack of pedigree 55/45 they miss, but they won't be in the cellar and won't be competing for the wright stuff. And if they are, it is dark ages part 2. This team isn't Philly where they can flip on and off in alternating years.

At one point during the game I was wondering if Gauthier was even playing. He was totally invisible

I got the sense that the moment they signed Goodrow to a 6 year deal, the long-term plan was for him to help build and anchor a physical, 2-way 3rd line with Barron stapled to his hip. Obviously, that may not be this year (or it may be later in the year) but those two guys together should provide good results.

I think for next year that's a solid plan. With a Blais-Barron-Goodrow situation.

But Chytil isn't going to develop into a top 6 skill center playing with grinders. We need to find a solution for that.

I agree, although I think him developing that 2-way hard-nosed game playing with them for a while won't be a bad idea. Next year, it would appear at least, that the plan is for him to play with Panarin.

What's criminally underrated by folks on this board is 20 of those 25 goals will be tips/deflections and tap ins from his job in front of the net. Which means he pads the stats of his teammates. I just wish he used his body more (consensus opinion). Idk if he's too much of a nice guy, but ever since the Price incident he just seems like he doesn't want to hurt anyone. Just look at him crushing Klingberg and then disappearing again physically.
