Again, coaches build lineups to win games. If Vitali isn't playing in the big club it's because coach doesn't feel he will help them win game(s) at this time. I really hope management isn't knowingly putting a worse lineup out there just to protect Libor Hajek. Kravtsov might very well not have a role on this teams at this time = he didn't make the team.

Edit: VK's situation is different than Nils not playing, that's for sure.

Literally nothing you've mentioned has been a slight against an adult.
What you think is not a slight is one to another person. Obviously he didn’t just leave for Russia for shits n giggles. He felt slighted, whether you agree with him or not is beside the point.

Kravtsov did play well, but he also got outplayed by two players who are older than him that he was competing with in Gauthier and Blais. Especially Blais. At 21 years old, there's nothing wrong with that at all. If he lights up Hartford, he'll be back sooner rather than later.

I honestly don't think Gauthier played that well. Or at least, he didn't show us anything new. Since he came here he's always driven to the net, forechecked, etc etc, but never had any results. Just like this preseason. So if you want to keep him a a spare part, fine, but head to head I don't think he outplayed Kravtsov in any meaningful way

Blais I think has more of an argument for outplaying him but I do think the flashes we'll see from Blais aren't going to be a game in game out thing

It isn't beside the point at all. Any player who is going to take something like that in a way that affects his work ethic and his play is not going to make it in the NHL. It isn't personal, so his job is to work hard to get himself to where he wants to be. That's the way it is on every team. And, honestly, he did put in the work after he came back from Hartford, he did last year in Russia and in NY, and he did in camp. His camp was even good, even with the injury. Unfortunately for him, he got outplayed by the two of the guys he was competing with. One of them we knew would be competing with him before camp even started in Blais. The other was an underdog coming into camp, but wasn't off the radar either.

Kravtsov's job now is to go down to Hartford and light up the AHL. Just like Chytil's was at the beginning of 2019-20. Just like Miller's job was at the beginning of 2014-15. Just like Kreider's was at the beginning of 2013-14. Kravtsov isn't being targeted here. This is extremely common for young players.

Gauthier basically never lost a board battle in pre-season. That's something new from him and more significant than what Kravtsov showed us. Don't get me wrong, if the decision was made to keep Kravtsov and waive Gauthier, I wouldn't be particularly upset that Kravtsov won the spot. We know what kind of talent he has. But I just think Gauthier was better.

bingo...if he ends up actually playing in hartford, then use it as motivation. go down there and make them look like fools.

I hope they move Kreider, but that feels like a pipe dream at this point. Losing Kravtsov and Buchnevich due to that shitty contract will be a tough pill to swallow. And the worst part is it was never good from the day it was signed. It's one thing to have a deal like Mika where we feel it's the right move at the time, even if it comes back to bite us. You could see the writing on the wall from day one with Kreider.

I didn't see any writing.. Thought the deal was fine.

I don't know how you can tie the two together, and at this point Kreider is a vastly better, more valuable player than Kravy both on and off the ice.

How will Kravy react to being scratched? How will Jones react to being demoted?

It’s in these situations — I hope — Gallant can set things straight and deliver the message in a way that can make the player react the right way. Under DQ it always felt like things back fired. Kravy lost it, Lias lost it. Even Buch was totally under the ice for months after a scratch.

I don’t know the lay of the land and what has taken place, but from afar it just seems like things that didn’t need to become issues did become issues, things that could have been sorted out with — better — communications.

Its just a big difference if you tell Kravy that he ‘does a lot of unacceptable non negotiable things and that he must work it out to get a shot’ or that ‘look I believe a ton in you, your upside is amazing, but you been hurt, the game will be crazy against Washington. Get back to 100% and I will be very surprised if you don’t play a ton for me this year’.

I just believe much more in the strategy Gallant seem to have to be supportive and trust in players sorting things out rather than the ‘you must break someone down before you can build him up properly’ approach.
I always wondered about that. The Rangers actions were for the most part reasonable. It had to be the delivery of the info/news that caused the issues. At least to some degree. I feel like the Rangers were either uncommunicative or arrogant. If it were just one player, I can say ‘it’s the player’. But it seems it’s the team and I’m hoping they’ve had a look in the mirror and improved. It’s important.

It's easy sometimes to get wrapped up in rooting for the individual guys you like and forget that sometimes, what's best for the team doesn't always involve those guys playing the role you want them to.

I'm a big K'Andre guy but if the team decided he needed to go spend time in Hartford to work on his game and that Jones should be up instead, I'd be like well that sucks, but if it's best for the team then okay.

Although I don't worry about Key hopping on an Aeroflot in the middle of the night, so there is that.

When Gallant said it was his decision he looked down to the right.
Usually a sign the person is telling the truth.

Looking down is usually a sign of emotion but he kept looking down throughout the whole interview.
Maybe he's just shy talking to the media
