its worked well for him in the past?
Pretty sure every other team he's coached has named a captain, and he led off the pre-season saying it was very important to have a captain. This is some impressive spin by him.

I legit think the players all know its going to someone like laf, and dont want any hard feelings when he's ready to take it. They then left it to gallant to spin it.

Don’t think Vegas had a C right?

after this team got bodied physically in an embarrassing fashion like 1/4 of the games last year I find it sort of amazing people are upset over actually utilizing a fairly flexible roster in one of its possible configurations. but muh first round picks.

mark stone....

rangers, kraken, sens, blue jackets, coyotes, sabres and flames don't have captains currently...i guess habs too since weber isn't expected to play

I’ll say it again. Heavy lineup for a heavy opponent. Not a big deal or crazy unusual

Oh yeah, I agree. It's not a big deal icing this lineup for this game. Now that these players are here, might as well use them.

But spare me the "we didn't do this to counter Tom Wilson," bit.

Yes we most certainly did.

How will Kravy react to being scratched? How will Jones react to being demoted?

It’s in these situations — I hope — Gallant can set things straight and deliver the message in a way that can make the player react the right way. Under DQ it always felt like things back fired. Kravy lost it, Lias lost it. Even Buch was totally under the ice for months after a scratch.

I don’t know the lay of the land and what has taken place, but from afar it just seems like things that didn’t need to become issues did become issues, things that could have been sorted out with — better — communications.

Its just a big difference if you tell Kravy that he ‘does a lot of unacceptable non negotiable things and that he must work it out to get a shot’ or that ‘look I believe a ton in you, your upside is amazing, but you been hurt, the game will be crazy against Washington. Get back to 100% and I will be very surprised if you don’t play a ton for me this year’.

I just believe much more in the strategy Gallant seem to have to be supportive and trust in players sorting things out rather than the ‘you must break someone down before you can build him up properly’ approach.

I don't think anyone's upset really?

Would actually love to see Drury hit the podium saying:
“This game against Washington is what we have focused on this off season. This year the results in the standings are secondary, we have built a team with the goal to stand up for Artemi and hope we never fail each other as teammates ever again. We want to send a message to the Tom Wilsons of the league, that is what this season is about. Questions?”

BTW, am I the only one that is so f***ing upset at this team naming 6 alternate captains???

6 alternates? Doesn't that seem, excessive....

Jovo gonna lose his shit

He may be right about Kravtsov scoring 70p this year. Sad it’ll be in Hartford.

Why do I count 25 players on the roster, don’t they have to get to 23? So Kravtsov and Barron go down before 5pm right, or is it 23 skaters and 2 goalies now?

NYR heading into this offseason.

"Ok boys, pretty straight forward, we need to add a top 6 forward and name a captain."

NYR: Trades a bonefide top 6 player for a bottom 6 player and names 6 alternate captains.

What did Gallant not see in this group? He talked a few times about how important a C was and even alluded to it a few nights ago after a game.

No Kravtsov, no Lundkvist.

Yeah, Tom Wilson isn't in our heads at all. This is all just about icing the best team.

I don't want to ever hear anyone say that ever again.

Seems like we want another symbolic bash like when Strome, Bitteto, Smith and company did the dance against Washington.

As long as this isn't a consistent lineup choice, so be it.

Could be a trade in the works for Hajek and/or Gauthier. It could be that 2 of Kravtsov, Barron and Lundkvist will be sent down temporarily, even if only as a paper transaction, until a deal is made. Maybe they are just hoping to sneak a couple players to Hartford by waiting to waive them, so they'll send down 2 players who don't need waivers and then waive Hajek and/or Gauthier after rosters are set.

Maybe the person they were thinking to give it to didn't want it?

I like it.
I’m have probably been one of the most outspoken on here when it comes for the rangers to add Grit/physical play and a identity this offseason, and have applauded drurys moves in adding guys with those qualities and experience.
Having said all of that, starting Nemeth-Tinordi instead of Nemeth-Lundkvist is dumb.
I can see Hunt in for Kravtsov at least. Hunt had an excellent preseason, and flashed some sneaky skill few on these boards thought he had. I have no problem rewarding him especially in a game that could potentially get nasty.
But Tinordi is just overkill. It’s almost as if Gallant is more interested in making a statement rather then winning the game with that line up.
I’m not in the room, but it seems that Gallant really wants to put an exclamation point on our opener against the caps saying this is who we are, we’re not taking shit from anyone anymore. NYR will no longer be looked at as soft or easy to push around.
Now, if that’s what’s needed to get the guys heads right, I’m fine with it. But it almost looks like he’s saying to Dolan/drury hey boss, I’ll make what happened last season right. Don’t look back, we can only go fwd imo

I figured Tinordi would play game one instead of Lundkvist, but Hunt in over Kravy is surprising. At least Hunt can play hockey so I can't complain too much. This game has the possibility to get out of control so I definitely don't mind Lundkvist sitting this one. We'll find out right away how useful Tinordi will be as well.
