Have to say, disappointed with The Athletic's coverage of the Rangers over the past two weeks. I know Carp is on vacation, but there should be alternatives. Lundqvist retires and Gilbert passes away and the last real Rangers article is 8/10. There were generic "athletic staff" short articles that read like AP news blips about both but pretty disappointing to be honest. You'd think Carp could throw something together given the importance of both but cie la vie.

Well the Rangers Athletic coverage consists of a grumpy old man and a person who just compiles charts smarter people made and writes about them so...can't expect too much.

He's working with a trainer, who I assume knows what he and/or she is doing, so I'm not concerned about what he looks like.

If the added bulk without losing his skating helps him in that regard, keeping the puck away from defenders and getting it to teammates for a chance to score, or helps him create space for himself/space to create chances or score himself, I'm all for it. He's already fairly responsible defensively.

The Rangers didn't draft Kakko no. 2 overall to win the Selke Trophy. Not saying he'll ever win the Rocket Richard Trophy, but the team had offence in mind when selecting him second overall.
What did they draft McIlrath for?

Or Lias?

I am not saying that photo is real or not but leave the BS about WHY our drafting "experts" chose him out of the others.

ANY pseudo hockey fan takes Kakko AFTER the NJD take Hughes.

Don't give "me" credit for blinking my eyes or breathing.

Maybe not, but if he becomes one of the top shutdown wingers in the game, I take that every day of the year.

Frankly, the way this team is shaping up, a 25-25 Jere Lethinen type is going to be much more useful to us than a 35-35 offense-only forward. We've got a lot of offensive firepower, and it'll only increase as Lafreniere comes into his own.

Throw in his possession potential and you've got yourself one of those players who prevents goals by doing a tremendous job cycling in the offensive zone.

They drafted Kakko 2nd overall because he was the 2nd best player in the draft. If that results in him winning a Selke, that's good.

The Zac Jones article may have been the best Rangers story out of the Athletic all summer and it wasn't even written by Carp.

There’s no one left at the office reading the boards for material. Not even a made up/rumor monger Eichel to NYR article....

There are so many things Carp could write about. Lundqvist, Gilbert, Drury's offseason

How about digging into what Laf, Kakko, Chytil, Nils and other young players have been up to over the summer? I mean there's a bunch of updates on HF recently, fans would be interested in that and frankly its the type of beat coverage you should expect to get behind a pay wall.

That would require carp to actually do more than opinion pieces on how the skilled players are and how much he missed gorton.
Shayna has been going over each addition, but that’s her thing. Carp is supposed to be the beat writer. And he’s bad at it.

They haven’t even wrote about Kakko’s weight gain smh

Look at the last players to win the Selke over the last 15 years. They were all incredible offensive players as well as great defensive forwards.

Theres no such thing as an individual NHL award without the offensive stats to compliment what the award celebrates.

Except the Vezina and the Masterson

I've written more than Carp the last 2 weeks LOL.
