That first pic looks like an unflattering angle more so than anything else.

Regardless, the extra weight shouldn't hurt him as long as a. He didn't put on too much weight and b. he has been skating while packing on muscle. New muscle needs to be trained to do what you want it to do, so as long as he's been on the ice with regularity, it shouldn't hinder him/he shouldn't be at risk for further injury. The point of diminishing returns speed wise is something a bunch of people pay attention to at this level, I can't imagine any trainer worth a damn would ever allow him to get there.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about his speed as that itself isn't an issue. His game has never been about burning guys wide. Having that extra strength to be able to separate other people from pucks/lean on defenders/bull your way to high traffic areas is way more important for him than to have super jets. If that ends up becoming part of his game? Fantastic. Even if it doesn't, Id rather he train to further enhance what he already does well.
Unfortunately, he said in an interview that most of the summer was gym training and he just recently started to go back on the ice.

That white tee has to be fake or someone else. He doesn't look like that in those stairs pictures. He looks blown up like a balloon in that one.

That's what most guys do. They take time off to get rested and healthy, then hit the gym hard and then start skating. No point in "peaking" your skating for training camp. You want to peak for the regular season.

It would be amazing if he came out and said that on record. If he really wanted to throw a final "f*** you" to Buffalo and tank his value, that would be amongst the messiest team/player breakups I've ever seen, if it isn't already.

If we're trading for him for pennies on the dollar, I'm interested, but that's about it.
Strome/Georgie/Jones and a protected 1st seems like an overpay now

How long was he doing off ice work before he got back to the rink though?

If hes been back at the rink for a few weeks now, he should be fine. He's got a month plus of skating/what ever off ice stuff hes doing ahead of him.

What it’s clearly Kakko, does he have an evil twin? idk the stairs pics are hard to judge too because he’s in the middle of an active pose he’s not standing normally, so he’d look more defined and his body is hunched climbing stairs. You can tell in his face his body fat % seems to have gone up a lot

Well when's that picture from because he looks fine in this video.

Looks like the famous Kessel diet

Not a bad diet

I think I saw it on Twitter within the past couple weeks but I don’t know when it was taken, he doesn’t look as big in that on ice video but you also lose a lot of water wait while training like that. I think that pic was how he looks casually (with his water weight) people with celiac can get bloated sometimes though too

He stopped eating gluten and that's like a 20+ lb difference. You don't just gain or drop that much water quickly. He looks like dough. Only thing I can think of is he had a 1-2 week binge eating whatever he wanted after the season and then spent the last 3 months getting into shape. Either way I'm not worried.

Bitetto isn't even that large lol.

Kakko's father looked pretty overweight at the draft I remember. I don't think Kakko will have much trouble gaining mass. He seems like a determined kid so I'm sure he's doing the right things in the offseason.

Or it was just an awkward photo taken at a weird angle.

WTF is "peaking your skating"?!?!?

I get the whole knock the rust off aspect after time off but no one "peaks" their skating at the right time... you get better and better (if working on the right things) and don't peak then valley.

Here we are, trading away players like Buch with the expectation that there will be a TOI logjam, and there HE is spending the offseason playing Factorio all day and stuffing his dumb face with leipäjuusto and mustikkapiirakka. Christ, help me.

Haha, leipäjuusto is awesome for cooking. Much cheaper than Haloumi and more versatile since you can flavor it anyway you want.
