It would be amazing if he came out and said that on record. If he really wanted to throw a final "f*** you" to Buffalo and tank his value, that would be amongst the messiest team/player breakups I've ever seen, if it isn't already.

If we're trading for him for pennies on the dollar, I'm interested, but that's about it.
.
I honestly think that its already out there and thats why nobody has traded for him yet. Who wants a player that wants out the following year? If they wanna mess with Buffalo give Zib the C, Strome the A and tell Buffalo "we're good", got our centers.

OK, cool USA USA, but WATCH this interrupt a sick run we will be having where everyone is gelling. Calling it.

This was literally my first impression as well. Excited as hell for Olympic hockey, but it sucks to have 3 fugazi seasons in a row. I just wanna see this roster play a full, normal schedule ffs.

You know, I never considered that, but it's spot on. Air Limerick, out of Ireland, literally the only one I can think of. You know, I don't know much about the Jets origins though, is that how they got the name? Because of the airport? And did Hess pick the colors because all his trucks and gas stations were green? That would make so much sense.
Leon Hess did not pick the Jets colors. They were picked in 1963 when a syndicate headed by Sonny “As in money” Werblin bought the team from founding owner Harry Wisner. Werblin changed in name of the team from Titans to Jets because of their impending move to Shea Stadium (and the LaGuardia jet path) and he picked green (like money) as the teams primary color. Hess bought the team in 1973.

Side note…in the Shea Stadium days, if you were watching on TV and you could hear the LaGuardia Jets taking off, it meant the wind at the ballpark was blowing in. Not sure if that is still true.

You don’t need to listen to Jets to see if the wind is blowing in. You can just look at the flags. Or jerseys. Or grass.

This would defeat the purpose of him buying you a drink. I don't claim to understand your friendship but thought I'd offer you two some accounting advice.
I'll buy you a beer and you can tell me all about it.

And this is bullshit. The NHL might be the 4th of 4 big sports in the US, but it’s still a $5B business that draws millions upon millions of viewers.
This is why I find it amazing how such a good product is managed so poorly the league is going to need five-plus years to recover from one season without fans.

And I understand there are reasons…And I know that other industries are even worse off. I’m talking broadly… this product needs to be better taken care of.

He will counter-offer with you sending him 10.00 USD via paypal so he can get a combo meal at his local Chinese takeout.
And deprive myself Tob's gift for gab? No way. It's worth his weight in gold.

Ah memory lane--sitting in the stands at the games hearing the jets take off. Flying over the stadium looking like they were just clearing the roof.

Ps for those who remember the team changed it's colors from blue and yellow ( uniforms were kind of good looking ) to green and white which was a big change in those days.

If I remember correctly Hess keep the colors because of his gas stations--Hess stations and gas trucks were also green and white. Hess was a good owner he would stay out of the way but we could never seem to get over the hump. Only major mistake was him wanting Rich Kotite---Hess thought he would be great and Kotite turned out to be the worst coach in Jets history. If Dolan is the devil Hess would be the angel when it came to owning the team.

There are a ton of great centers due for contracts this next offseason.

Zibanejad, Couturier, Barkov, Bergeron, Malkin, Giroux, Hertl.

At least one of those guys is gonna slid to UFA. Malkin and Bergeron will almost certainly stay where they are, and have only a couple years left each. Philly is in the same spot we are with their top 2 centers having little term left.

I want to re-sign Zibanejad, but if doing so potentially takes you out of the race on the off chance that Barkov or Couturier hit the market then you just screwed yourself. Can NYR afford both Zibanejad and Couturier? They'd probably have to find a way to lose one of Kreider or Trouba early to make that work, which seems unlikely. LTIR? If a two way center of Couturier's quality hits the market in his prime you have to try to get him. Quintessential stanley cup type center. PP and PK, him and Barkov. Tremendous in the faceoff circle.
Barkov is a pipe dream. If FLA was bad, maybe. But their actually built pretty well, have drafted above average in the last 3-4 years and have a GM and owner who’ll spend money. And imo they’ve improved this offseason. All those factors doesn’t bode well for Barkov going UFA route.
98% chance Bergeron goes no where. Same for Malkin, maybe 95% chance but most likely neither go anywhere.
Giroux at this point in his career is more of a winger and not a better option then Zibby.
Courtier and Hertl are the wild cards. Both are going to want big money, but I can see both moving on to greener pastures.
Odds are we will be able to make a run at 1 of them Hertl, Zibby, or couturier. That’s all the cap will pretty much allow. I don’t think either of the 3 would have a better impact then Eichel in the next 5 years, but he comes with added asset cost and injury concerns.
We are so so fortunate to have the rebuild go our way, have shesty and the incredible luck of LaF kakko and Fox willing himself here. Our prospect/young player stable is full to the point that we’re not going to have enough spots for all the good young guys we have currently.

the next year and a half is so critical to get our 1 and 2 centers locked down for the next 5-6 seasons. More turnover is going to occur at that point, and though the team won’t be bad, it’s certainly going to look different.
The next 4-5 years might be the best chance at we have at winning a cup. So it’s very very important drury get this right.
If they think Eichel is the guy, they have to get him. If they want to forge fwd with Zibby, or make the change for Hertl or couturier, either way that’s going to set up the dominos. This is a put up or shut up year for chytil as well.
If they don’t think he’s arrived or close after 5 years, I guarantee he’ll be on the move as well. Not to say he can’t prosper after that, just that they aren’t going to wait another 2-3 seasons for player development at 2C, it’s too important of a position right now.

Ah very interesting. I guess it just happened to match Hess's corporate colors then. A perfect fit of sorts.

This is because the people running the league are short-sighted, small minded and stuck in the stone age. You can never accuse the NHL for being "innovative" and forward thinking. They still have a 1950s mindset when it comes to marketing and promotion.

He looks, uh, heavy? Is he planning to fight Tom Wilson this year too?

I’m all about some man strength but I hope this kid isn’t doing anything to make his already mediocre speed any worse.
Well good thing he is getting coaching on skating this summer as well. That's the biggest issue, as these young men continue to grow, they need to develop a different style of skating as well because the heavier body just won't move in the way it used to when you were a leaner junior. It might take some time.

That first pic looks like an unflattering angle more so than anything else.

Regardless, the extra weight shouldn't hurt him as long as a. He didn't put on too much weight and b. he has been skating while packing on muscle. New muscle needs to be trained to do what you want it to do, so as long as he's been on the ice with regularity, it shouldn't hinder him/he shouldn't be at risk for further injury. The point of diminishing returns speed wise is something a bunch of people pay attention to at this level, I can't imagine any trainer worth a damn would ever allow him to get there.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about his speed as that itself isn't an issue. His game has never been about burning guys wide. Having that extra strength to be able to separate other people from pucks/lean on defenders/bull your way to high traffic areas is way more important for him than to have super jets. If that ends up becoming part of his game? Fantastic. Even if it doesn't, Id rather he train to further enhance what he already does well.
