Speculation: Roster Building thread - Part XVII - (TDL is March 7th)

Yeah i would have been fine trading him back then. Could have gotten us a haul. Still hoping we can unload him.

I’d say it’s right of the middle of this take; the only way you are moving Fox is if you’re genuinely going scorched earth and torn down to the studs … which some people advocate for, and their arguments aren’t without merit, but is obviously a very grave and serious decision and commitment. But you’re right, unless we were going to that extent, our organizational depth on D simply doesn’t justify moving him. On the flip side, he’s getting a haul because he’s undeniably an elite offensive producer from the back end and his ability to keep the puck moving in the right direction mitigates plenty of chances against, just by virtue of the positive impact he has on possession and offensive zone time/production. At the same time, those are the reasons you’re getting a haul for him, but it seems that perceptions around Fox, not just from some on this board, have shifted to him being an exceptionally gifted but physically limited player. When he won his Norris, people thought Lindgren was a legit #3 because he hadn’t started to break down; let’s not revise history to act like Fox carried Lindgren from day one… there was a time when Lindgren was a perfect compliment to Fox and enabled him to reach his peak. Maybe he can reach it again - theres no reason he can’t but now the perception seems to have changed from Fox being viewed as a clear top 3 D in the NHL to an elite D who requires a complimentary partner to be at his best. Not trying to editorialize… that just genuinely seems to be reality.

Think he’s the chytil of defensemen…
Solid talent/play package, but with his past injury history, counting on him for anything more then a 3rd pair guy in a 7 man rotation is a mistake.
He can add value overall, but shouldn’t be a guy that will most likely play 82 gms + A long grueling playoff stretch

If Panarin or Kreider decides to waive for LA Kings, I want Laferriere back in that deal. He was a Rangers fan growing up from Jersey. Young RW depth hard nose player north south goes to the net type

I don't know about the best but he really picked up the slack for Hedman who was injured to the point where he really shouldn't have been playing.

Very important player for them with out a doubt though.

McDonagh went to a team which had these long and rangy D. TB won with big trees on D.

McDonagh signed an extension worth $6.75M in TB. That number would have been over $7M in NY.

The Rangers spent a fortune on Panarin and Trouba. They kept Kreider. Gave Fox $9.5M.
 


Dan Rosen and Vince discussed Fox's game leveling off. Physically limited. He will have a hard time playing for the U.S. team in the Olympics. 7 or 8 players are better than him. Fox is no longer in the Makar and Hughes group. Less effective in the last two playoffs. They discussed the next partner for him. The player they discussed is not available in a trade or in free agency. Fox doesn't train hard in the summer. He needs to add muscle. Take away PK minutes.

Vince recorded the podcast before the Fox news was leaked. Epic fail.

....and he was huge and strong . Maybe they can fix it better these days....One would have to think if he finds a donated shoulder that is much bigger he would need a matching one ? He could be out for a year just learning how to use the new found mega shoulders ! :D He would be like a robo-defender of sorts for us .

It's not hate. We discuss every little thing about every player. However, if you mention Adam Fox, then it's hate. Every player is fair game except for Fox?

Dan Rosen and Vince made those comments about Fox. All of them are true. Other American D have surpassed Fox on the U.S. depth chart. Did you watch the games? There are other American D coming along for next year. Fox seems to have trouble when the games become fast and physical. It's been true the last two playoff appearances. Fox looked like a fish out of water in the 4 Nations. He does look slower. Who is this ideal mythical partner for Fox? He needs to be big and physical. He needs to be able to skate well. He needs to be a good defender too. Fox is not one of top 3 D in the league.

You Fox people are not being objective. If Fox played for the Devils, nearly everyone on this board would point out every flaw. Fox plays for the Rangers and some of us should bury our heads in the sand pretending everything is fine.

Being critical is fine. You comes across as obsessive and a bit weird. There are a bunch of others who criticize him without being going to this extreme. You do you though.
