If we had McDonagh instead of Lindgren in our 2 deep playoffs runs the last 3 years…

Larry is telling a half truth, as usual. Mcdonagh wasn't the same after the rapid injuries......for the Rangers in the short term cause they rushed him back. Once he had time to heal he was fantastic for Tampa. He is still good. Rangers should shut Fox down till next season and start selling.

We probably have 1 cup in these last 3 years. He is that good.

The Rangers are home for the next few games. Even if Miller and Fox are out, they will only need to recall one player to fill out the roster with Jones around already. Robertson and Ruwhedl are LD’s. I think Mackey is a RD. Jones is more comfortable at LD. They should call up a RD otherwise guys will be playing out of position.

This is going to be a big opportunity for Vaak and Schneider to show what they have. Schneider specifically.

Ruhwedel is a RD. He has played some LD.

I think it's hilarious to try to cast McDonagh as a "declining' player after 2014.

He was f***ing great for more than a half decade after and is still an effective player today at 35.

He was their best player for their second Cup run as well.

I don't know about the best but he really picked up the slack for Hedman who was injured to the point where he really shouldn't have been playing.

Very important player for them with out a doubt though.

not saying I agree with it, but I can see a world where Drury brings back Gustafsson with Fox out long term and the team only 2 points out.

1 year left 2m. Laviolette favorite. On the outs in DET. Probably wouldnt cost much at all. Maybe a 5th or a middling prospect like Robertson

this is way too good of a move for Drury to think of.

You know Larry thought he hit send on some fire when he sent out that McDonagh/Fox tweet

Even though McDonagh went on to win two cups and was one of the best defensemen on those Lightning teams. But injuries!

My point is whatever the plan was (as already readjusted during 2024 fall from grace) - it shouldn't change based on yesterday's injuries. And all indications are that that plan was to sell.

Edit: Honestly the closer we get to the TDL the more anxiety I feel that it will go wrong even though so far I generally haven't seen Drury misreading the situation. He might fail on the execution end but not in identifying the areas to address.

I hope we sell. As a fan it's the only thing that makes sense to me. I thought this months ago. If Fox is going to be out for any amount of time or is even playing banged up I don't really think we'll have any chance to get past the first round assuming three or four other teams play even worse than us so that we back into a playoff spot.

I do think there's some chance that Dolan pressures Drury into being a buyer though the deal with the Canucks pretty much tied up this and next year's 1st rounder so he won't be able to trade that even if he wanted to.

That’s true by Larry, McDonagh’s career ended in 2014, excuse me he was a huge part in helping Tampa win two cup’s, and is still playing really well at 35.
McDonagh was not a #1 Dman on Tampa. I think it's fair to say he went from a #1 to a #3 after those injuries.

Prime Hedman was a different beast but he was #2 behind him so no it would not be fair to say that he went from a 1 to a 3. I don't think that being "Norris Quality" really is the criteria for a #1 D or else we'd have like 5 of them in the league at any given moment.

McDonagh was easily their best defenseman on the back end of the back to backs though. That isn't really debatable as Hedman was awful (he was also pretty seriously hurt) for the entirety of that run.

MacTruck was a horse for them. He got all the top matchup minutes. Played 22-24 minutes a game

And as all things, once he left the rangers he played with an edge

I could buy trading Fox if they didn’t have some of the worst organizational depth at defense in the league.

Nothing against Emery and Foretescue, but the next time Emery scores a goal will be his first since he played under 17 hockey.

And if Fox is this slow injured player who now stinks why is an NHL team giving us a haul?

Robertson might actually get to play a game.
