Truth be told, just getting Lundqvist, Staal, Smith, etc. off the books will be huge.

Switching gears a bit, if Hank retires and Staal is bought out, as soon as this season the Rangers will be in position to deal from a position of strength to take advantage of other teams cap constraints to get “steals”. Like for VERY good vets with only 1-2 years remaining on their contracts that otherwise wouldn’t be considered overpaid relative to their contributions, or if overpaid, then only by a little bit.

I can live with Kreider as a 3rd liner and a net front asset on the PP for us if he will use his body more to punish Dmen and soften them up for our top 6 guys when it is deemed the 3rd line is no longer where we want to keep LaFreniere . If he can ramp up the physical play for us and still score 20 he will more than have earned his contract I figure .

Didn't realize how team friendly Lindholm's contract is. That's incredibly valuable if you can get a 60-70 point 2nd line center under control for four more seasons at <5m. Imagine Panarin - Lindholm - Kakko?

yup. Could totally shift the complexion of the offseason depending on what Hank does.

Sometimes at HFBoards we get too obsessed with who a guy is playing with and where the intro graphics list them in terms of first liners, second liners, etc.

Kreider "being introduced on a graphic" or playing with Chytil as opposed to Ziba/Strome doesn't limit him to a third liner. They'll get him his minutes in other ways. A guy like him should PK at this point in his career. He has the tools.

You realize these “maybe’s” could happen to any position? Otherwise try finding a team that has two LWs in the middle of their prime on Panarin and Kreider level for another 3-4 years at least and a prime prospect like AL.
3-4 years down the road is exactly the time for which you should be planning right now. It’s also the time when this team’s window should really be open.

Also, Kreider’s prime began when he was 22. If you think he’s in the middle of it at 29, I’ve got some news for you.

Important thing to remember is Vegas has no Cap.

Stasnty - middle six vet C Rangers don’t need to protect. Great as faceoffs; not sure if he still PKs though
Martinez - veteran stopgap. Cup experience (unfortunately) can play with Trouba. Don’t need to protect for exp draft.
Cap Space - 10m for one year for those two. Comes off when all the other Rangers dead weight comes of to create money for Zibanejad extension.
Krebs - not sure Vegas includes him; not sure they have to, but gives Rangers an asset for taking the $ and still on team when the other guys walk. Would be a nice get.

I think that is the kind of love staring the Rangers in the face

Why are we giving up our biggest trade chip in Deangelo for a 33 year old and a 34 year old, we're not in a win-now kind of situation and that kind of move just reeks of trying to slam open a window.
If we move Tony it should be for somebody who is going to be a part of this team for a long time. I'd do that package and maybe a little bit more for Theodore but thats about it from Vegas.

1. Pick BPA on your list regardless of position

2. What’s the news on Kreider?

The impact of Shesterkin being #1 goalie next season is being underestimated.

It's one thing to check a box off the list. It's another to check the box, circle it, and put an exclamation point next to it.

Shesterkin is the latter. That not only means one less thing for the Rangers to find, it means one more thing they should be able to count on.

NYR management clearly doesn’t agree as they pump his tires all the time .

Howden , Lemieux, Gauthier are all on the bubble of being protected in expansion so this year will affect the teams decision on who’s protected if any

Zib, Kreider, Buch, Panarin, Chytil, Strome? Although we are going to see a turnover w some names
Them disagreeing doesn’t make it lack truth. These hockey people aren’t invincible or always right.

Protecting Howden would be questionable

A $6.5M/ 7yr 3rd liner.
Tell me more about how billiant JG is again..

Would rather try him on RW than on third line.

He should've planned on getting Lafreniere? That would have been insane.

No.. Paying Kreider, who only shows up when he wants is insane.
How bout those playoffs where he was invisible?
Quite the leader..

None of our impact players arrived for the playoffs.

I imagine Gorton played the market with Kreider and the return wasn’t something he felt comfortable with. It’s not a horrible deal...yet.

This is still a bad idea and a really, really poor use of DeAngelo.

I don't even think this is fair value for DeAngelo straight up, let alone Geo and the Carolina pick on top of it.
I don’t agree at all but that’s fine. That’s why Krebs is in. Vegas just oversaw his rehab. They aren’t selling him low either. If the Rangers are going to be improved this covers a lot of bases. Doesn’t have to be DeAngelo but that’s an attractive piece for Vegas potentially. Got to give to get. We aren’t going to get a Cirelli type without giving up a core piece.

The Rangers have no secondary scoring? I think it’s safe to say Panarin, Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Kreider, Buchnevich, Strome, Kakko, Chytil, and Fast all project 30+ points. That’s 9 names. We also have a top point producing defense. Can’t say there’s many teams around the league that have that type of scoring depth.
The Rangers are a two line team. There is nothing past that. It’ll be better with Lafreniere next year, but you need to give him better linemates than what is currently in the bottom six.

Core piece for Cirelli is fine by me.

core piece, goalie with control and a 1st for 2 UFAs to be on the wrong side of 30 and a prospect is not fine.

that’s the type of deal that gets GMs fired.

Stastny - 6.5 million dollar cap hit, UFA in 2021

Martinez - 4 million dolalr cap hit, UFA in 2021

So we're going to take ON salary for next year (getting them off the books in 2021 doesn't really benefit the team at all, we already have a ton of money coming off the books that year. However, adding those guys eats almost all of the free space the Rangers currently have) and you don't think that they would need to include Krebs while giving up the best player in the deal by far, a goalie who has control AND a 1st round pick?

Stop.

For this to even remotely come close to making sense, They would have to retain on Stastny, replace Martinez with another D with more control and THEY should be adding the pick, not us.
I don’t agree. The Rangers don’t need the cap space next year. They need it in 2021. The benefit is you get the veterans in the room who are MAJOR upgrades on the incumbents and don’t leave the youth hanging. That being said the Carolina pick looks a lot better if Svechnikov is finished. Either way there is a deal to be had, and that’s the kind of move that improves the team. Every if there needs to be some tweaking.

The Rangers kind of are in win now with Two Hart Candidates, Two Calder Candidates and a full season of Igor. Non premier draft picks aren’t improving the team any more. Rangers need so people to show the way. Even if it’s just for a season; which is great because no expansion draft protection and more money for Summer 2021

He's the one that needs to set the tone and provide a net front presence.

He doesn't use his size or speed like he used to anymore.

Is that on Quinn or him?

If he didn't show up in these playoffs, how can we count on him moving fwd or are we just going to account for his regular season points again?

There's a lot missing in this equation..

It’s a rental for an expendable goalie and a dman who is going to need a big control the same summer where Zibanejad is going to get paid. This is future planning to help the building blocks this season and set the stage for Summer 2021, which is when the window opens again. Necessary future planning. Cirelli needs a big contract as well; if he signs at a discount he just in Tampa, and the Rangers give a ton more.

It would be nice to have our biggest breakaway threat on the pk again.
