In 2018, we were unsure how to work Andersson, Chytil and Howden into a lineup that already included Zibanejad and Hayes.
In 2019, we traded for Trouba and Fox with ADA, Lundkvist and Keane in the system.
In 2020, we'll draft Lafreniere with Kreider and Panarin in the system.
And like the scenarios that pre-date that move, it will work itself out.
True, but the focus should be on the holes they already have. Not saying they shouldn't draft a LW anywhere later in this draft.Yep. Organizational strength can change to a weakness very quickly once players start moving around and kids start getting a couple years into their pro careers. Never a bad thing to have good players in the pipeline even if your NHL roster at that particular position reads like an all star roster.
The only type of center the Rangers should be adding is a young one. Just wait.

UnlikelyWill the Knights buy out Stastny? If so, gotta think he'd be the absolutely perfect 2C.

+1 for Joe Thornton.I'm not against adding a vet in the right deal.
I'm not giving up DeAngelo and a 1st for 2 of them on expiring contracts.

Hold on, I NEVER said not to pick Lafreniere. If you look at my response to the poster who said we had no LW depth, I listed Lafreniere as part of the Rangers depth. Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere, Lemiuex. Now fill holes with trades/draft and don't immediately worry about LW.You just don't pass on a franchise player and a clear number one pick to take players based on need.
Your need will change. The talent of the franchise player will not.
This funadmental principle is particularly important when you're sitting at the top of the hill. It's a different landscape than picking 10th, 9th, or even 6th.
Things happen. The Jets’ entire defense was decimated in like a week. Maybe some dingbat like Tkachuk ruins Panarin’s ankle. Maybe Kreider’s play falls off a cliff. Maybe Lafreniere busts. Maybe Lemieux just isn’t that good. And remember, the Rangers organization is actually two teams not one.
Edit: literally as I type this Svechnikov falls awkwardly and his ankle points in a direction an ankle should never point, and he’s walked off the ice.
Important thing to remember is Vegas has no Cap.
Carolina Pick - Vegas has no 1st
Georgiev - Lehrer is UFA
DeAngelo - they don’t have a player like that, especially on the right.
Stasnty - middle six vet C Rangers don’t need to protect. Great as faceoffs; not sure if he still PKs though
Martinez - veteran stopgap. Cup experience (unfortunately) can play with Trouba. Don’t need to protect for exp draft.
Cap Space - 10m for one year for those two. Comes off when all the other Rangers dead weight comes of to create money for Zibanejad extension.
Krebs - not sure Vegas includes him; not sure they have to, but gives Rangers an asset for taking the $ and still on team when the other guys walk. Would be a nice get.
I think that is the kind of love staring the Rangers in the face
Center depth remains the most overrated aspect of a strong team.
Vegas is probably the favorite to come out of the west, they don't have a single center who broke 50 points.
You know what they do have? Some f***ing awesome depth at wing. Smith, JAM, Patches, Stone, Tuch, etc. Thats not a template that is too far off from what we have brewing here, and we have the "true #1 C" that they don't.
I want to upgrade on Strome not because I don't think he's not good enough to hold his own as a 2C, but because he's not multi dimensional enough to really justify keeping beyond a 1 year QO. The diversity in skill sets amongst our forwards is where we're truly lacking, but that needs to be addressed below the top 6 more than it does in the top 6 (where I would imagine they will do some work as well and I feel that Buchnevich's days as a Ranger are up because of it.)
Get me a solid 30 point scoring C who can PK and plays with a little bit of bite that I can throw on the 3rd line and another strong defensive PK centric one for the 4th (who shifts Howden to the wing, since there is no way he is going anywhere) and I'm ready to move forward with our offense for next year, even with Strome and his limitations at 2c.
Everyone knows I was uncomfortable as anyone with the Kreider talks. But the contract did end up being more reasonable than I originally I worried it would be.
On top of that, I can't help but think that Kreider is both moveable, and capable of playing a third line role if the offense starts to dwindle with age.
Yeah, maybe the 2024 version of Kreider is more like a 20 goal, 40 point player. But if that's behind Panarin and Lafreniere on a third line, I can potentially live with that.
Isn’t 2024-25 just a year short of when his contract becomes movable?
I believe so, yes.
Strangely, I just don't have a sense it's going to be an issue one way or another.
IMHO, the only issue could be AL 2nd contract starting in 2024-25 on top of all other increases that could be expected to be needed by then. But for only one-year it would be doable.
Bruins ?My question is what can we get for Georgiev. Who is going to be in desperate need of a goalie? Toronto is one team I keep looking to. Who else? And what can we get? 2nd round pick? 2nd-3rd line tweener? San Jose? Lebanc is someone I’d love to add to this roster.
