No way. And he went for a 5th. I thought he should have gone much higher. Was overlooked a couple of drafts I think. But the guy had an absolute monster world junior 20 before the draft. Now he's in the top 4 of the best defensive team in the league. Guys an animal. Completely fearless. Enjoys punishing guys and even taking the punishment.

Saw him take 3 straight point blank one timers off of Hoffman with different parts of his body, and went down to face a 4th. All on the same PK.

I don't think he's the type of guy you would need to budget a sports shrink for.

I figured as much, but wishful thinking...

The guy looks absolutely jovial just to be out there and the players all seem to love him. His attitude kind of reminds me of Holden in that he just seems excited to be there every day. Obviously Gavrikov is on a totally different level play-wise.

how many LW spots are we trying to fill?

Isn't Barron LW? Gettinger?

Panarin-Lafreniere-Kreider-Lemieux how much more LW's do we need? Our Top9 LW is locked for the next 6 years
In the entire organization? More than 4 players—2 of which are nearing 30 years old—would be nice. Lafreniere will be the only scoring LW in the Rangers org. under 28.

Don’t be surprised if they take another goalie either, even with Shesterkin and Georgiev. They’ve only taken 1 in the last 3 drafts.

I think Howden can develop into a Staal type of player
I think Chytil can develop into a stud workhorse/matchup Center.

I dont see it happening for at the least, a couple of years. We would benefit greatly from some good stopgaps who can show them the ins and outs. ( eg. Bonino, Bozak )

Really depends what the plan is with Strome.

I'd consider Granlund, as I think there's a next level to his game, especially if he's lined up with Panarin. If we sign Granlund, can we turn Strome into some kind of quality LHD?

How done is Craig Smith? Could he be a good middle-6 vet option as a RW and then a C if needed?

There's also a lot of question marks for camp. Gettinger, Barron, Kravtsov...how many kids do we want to bring in at once?

Will the Knights buy out Stastny? If so, gotta think he'd be the absolutely perfect 2C.
Don’t think they buy him out and he may be more of a 3C now BUT he fills a lot of holes on this team and would be a great a Great addition. Probably doesn’t break the bank and Vegas can replace internally with Glass

And Krebs. They already signed Karlsson to a long-term deal.

Maybe a trade for Stastny can be worked out. He only has one year left. Throw them Smith (reunited with his brother) or Staal.

yeah but those position are locked for at least the next 6 years.

We can draft LW's.. I dont care, I'm all about BPA.

It was being workshopped earlier something involving Carolina Pick, Georgiev, DeAngelo (maybe some cap filer) for Stastny, Martínez and Krebs. I think that solves more or less all the Rangers problems. A lot of Vegas problems too.

Barron is also quite likely to play left wing. That spot is definitely lowest priority on the draft list.

I think Barron can play C ? Would rather give him a shot at 4C than The alternatives.

This is still a bad idea and a really, really poor use of DeAngelo.

I don't even think this is fair value for DeAngelo straight up, let alone Geo and the Carolina pick on top of it.

It’s also entirely possible neither of those players are in the bottom six next season.

The Rangers have no secondary scoring. The can’t PK and they can’t win a face-off. Laffy, or dare I say Kreider, in the bottom six helps that but there is no help at center whatsoever, and frankly there is not a lot of defense or grinding coming out from that part of the Team either. Team needs to bring in some people that can show the way, even if it’s only for a season. The rebuild is over.

The Rangers have no secondary scoring? I think it’s safe to say Panarin, Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Kreider, Buchnevich, Strome, Kakko, Chytil, and Fast all project 30+ points. That’s 9 names. We also have a top point producing defense. Can’t say there’s many teams around the league that have that type of scoring depth.

Works for me
Important thing to remember is Vegas has no Cap.

Carolina Pick - Vegas has no 1st
Georgiev - Lehrer is UFA
DeAngelo - they don’t have a player like that, especially on the right.

Stasnty - middle six vet C Rangers don’t need to protect. Great as faceoffs; not sure if he still PKs though
Martinez - veteran stopgap. Cup experience (unfortunately) can play with Trouba. Don’t need to protect for exp draft.
Cap Space - 10m for one year for those two. Comes off when all the other Rangers dead weight comes of to create money for Zibanejad extension.
Krebs - not sure Vegas includes him; not sure they have to, but gives Rangers an asset for taking the $ and still on team when the other guys walk. Would be a nice get.

I think that is the kind of love staring the Rangers in the face

Things happen. The Jets’ entire defense was decimated in like a week. Maybe some dingbat like Tkachuk ruins Panarin’s ankle. Maybe Kreider’s play falls off a cliff. Maybe Lafreniere busts. Maybe Lemieux just isn’t that good. And remember, the Rangers organization is actually two teams not one.

Edit: literally as I type this Svechnikov falls awkwardly and his ankle points in a direction an ankle should never point, and he’s walked off the ice.

Stastny - 6.5 million dollar cap hit, UFA in 2021

Martinez - 4 million dolalr cap hit, UFA in 2021

So we're going to take ON salary for next year (getting them off the books in 2021 doesn't really benefit the team at all, we already have a ton of money coming off the books that year. However, adding those guys eats almost all of the free space the Rangers currently have) and you don't think that they would need to include Krebs while giving up the best player in the deal by far, a goalie who has control AND a 1st round pick?

Stop.

For this to even remotely come close to making sense, They would have to retain on Stastny, replace Martinez with another D with more control and THEY should be adding the pick, not us.

Unlikely Boston win, takes the series lead and a lot out of Carolina's sails. Svechnikov went down with what looked like a blown knee. Halak had a strong game. Hello, pick 20-24.
