I just don’t see the rush to go out and trade assets for a LD.

1) Id like to see DeAngelo tried on that side to accommodate Trouba Fox Lundkvist on the right.

2) Miller could be the #1 someday

3) Robertson, Zac Jones, Hajek, Rykov, etc, are all solid options to fill out the second/third pairs on the left.

We just don’t need anyone long term, and why am I worried about short term? Are we winning the Cup next year? Let the kids play and grow.

Center is the spot where there is actual organizational weakness now. And pretty much only there.

it depends on what assets and which LD you are targeting. I'm a big believer that you can never have enough prospects and you can never have enough draft picks, but sometimes those prospects and draft picks are most valuable as trade chips....at the start of the rebuild it was about quantity to restock the system but we have so many assets now that it should be about quality over quantity...

and we've got lindgren, miller, roberson, jones, hajek, rykov, reunanen...that's 7 guys. there are only 3 LD spots to fill so even in the absolutely best case scenario 4 of those guys won't be future rangers...so why not use them in trades if the right deal is there? the perks of having so many guys you can make trades without killing the system...

look at the trades we made with the right side, we trade pionk, a 1st and 2 2nds for trouba and fox...not bad in my book. if for example you could now turn lets say rykov or hajek, carolina's pick and maybe a 3rd asset into a young established LHD then you are making the team better now without really hurting the prospect depth cause you didn't touch the top guys...

I love miller and robertson and I think both have the potential to be top 4 guys and maybe even top pair guys. but they are, probably, both at least a year away from playing in the nhl. several years away from being top pair guys and the way the team is setup we can't just sit in neutral with no left side of the defense waiting with our fingers crossed for these guys to be ready...

and no one is saying blow away the system and forget about these guys...just cause you bring in someone now, that doesn't mean that Miller and Robertson can't be your 1LHD and 2LHD in 5 years. but it does mean that they would be able to develop at their own pace and bump others from the lineup when they are ready and better than those guys...but like i said it all depends on who you are targeting...

I'm not good with numbers, and I bet there's a website that would do this for me, but what does it look like for the team if, by some miracle, both Staal and Hank retire?

How does that change if they also buy out Smith?

Thank you in advance for you more mathematically inclined folks!

If even just one of them retires that gives the rangers an incredible amount of cap flexibility to get whatever they need done this summer. You wouldn't need to buy out Smith. I think Smith has proved he can be a serviceable 3LD for 1 more season, which is perfect because by then hopefully K'andre Miller will be ready.

I think if Chytil is given a real chance, he could at the very least do Strome's job. The problem is that I don't think anyone other than Strome was given a legitimate shot with AP.

broke 40? I'm relatively certain a retired Prospal could have done that with Panarin on his wing. I sincerely hope my team does not pay a 30 point center like he is a 60 point player because Panarin played with him. I wouldnt be opposed to bring Strome back at his QO. I don't think there is a solution to his position in UFA rn. I do want to see what Chytil can bring with skill on his line though.

No, Strome was the center to Panarin's best statistical year ever. Panarin and Strome both had career years. Panarin played with Patty Kane and never came close to this. He played with Dubois and Atkinson, and his best year ever was with Strome and Fast. We have no idea if Chytil can play with him longterm and keep him at a 110 point pace as I said before I'm doubtful its Quinn holding Chytil off that line, its most likely Panarin who wants Strome. It would be crazy to think his point totals go up with another center in this organziation outside of Zib. I'd like an upgrade to that position myself mostly based on size but the replacement has to be better than Strome or its a sideways move that bleeds assets.

Thank you for your response. I figured as much and fully agree with you. I was just looking for actual numbers versus the cap.

would Vegas trade Glass or Karlsson for ADA? I just don’t see them trading Glass personally, but if we could pull that off I would be ecstatic
I don’t think Vegas would trade Karlsson and he is on the first year of an eight year contract. I’m sure interested in Glass and even more interested in Peyton Krebs, their first pick from last year. If you are talking about moving DeAngelo, it’s got to be a value for value trade. Vegas is a win now team.

While Panarin does improve the players he plays with - you need to be talented, and have a style that he can mesh with.

Look at Fast. Yeah yeah, great along the boards and wins 1-on-1 battles.. Hard worker. Great hustler. Blah blah blah.. He single handedly cost Panarin another 5-10 points this year with some of his blunders offensively. I specifically recall him missing like 3, wide open, Ray Charles could score this shit opportunities.

Strome, despite all of his warts, could at least bury a lot of the gifts Panarin sent his way. Strome also managed the create plays that put Panarin in prime scoring positions.

I’m not here advocating we sign Strome longterm.. The dumbass and unnecessary penalties he takes alone makes me want to waterboard him..

But let’s not make pretend he isn’t a skilled and talented player. He is. 100%. Great vision. Good shot. Good passer. And reads/anticipates plays very quickly, which is a key thing when playing with Panarin.

There are better scapegoats than him... And that’s who we should rightfully pick on!

f*** You Marc Staal. Retire. Go Away.

Martinez, Krebs and a pick for DeAngelo?
I was thinking along the lines of the Carolina pick+ but that certainly works for me to. Vegas cap situation is scary. Was looking at Stastny too if we really want to blow it out.

Can't forget about Voros. For about the first 20-25 games of the 08-09 season, i thought we finally found our powerforward. Man was i wrong
Voros is that big guy in your group of friends that acts tough but, is truly a pantsy when push comes to shove.

It was a fun month with him before reality set in, lol.. Aaahhh, good times.

bring some spunk and toughness this team lacks. just needs to be smart about it. i prefer to play Smith over Staal all day.

I'm dying to see Lafreniere on a line with Zibanejad and Kreider. I know CK and Laf are both LWs, but Laf is both strong on the puck and can play offense at high speeds. I think pairing him with CK and Zib would be dynamic. Put Kakko with Panarin and Strome (or trade target) and then get a legit 3rd line center with size and grit. Let Howden devleop into a 4th line center. And then wings become Chytil, Gauthier, Barron, Lemieux/Fast.

Lastly, I know this is likely a terrible idea, but I'm dying to eventually try Kravtsov between Kakko and Panarin.

K'Andre being raved about in bubble camp and him spending time with Kreider this offseason, maybe he really pushes for a spot out of training camp

Glass and Krebs are obviously both expansion draft exempt

Moving ADA in a deal there would open up a defense spot for the expansion draft; I'd be looking at Brodin or Hampus Lindholm

Laf Zib Buch
Panarin Glass Kakko
Kreider Chytil Kravstov/Fast
Lemieux Barron Gauthier

Lindholm Trouba
Lindgren Fox
Miller Smith/Lundkvist

“He reminds me of Gilbert Perreault,” NHL legend Wayne Gretzky said of Lafreniere during the Gretzky Hlinka Cup, per Sportsnet’s Mark Spector. “He can skate, handle the puck. He’s just around the puck so much. When you have that much puck sense, that much speed, I can see him being a centreman at the next level.”
