I’m ok with strome on a short deal at the right price. He’s a good playmaker just not a game breaker. It’s tough to get a good 2C at the right price. Loved Hayes, but the contract was not possible.

As for Domi, I would be ecstatic to get him. However, I think JG is just fine sticking with the current roster for next year.

Both he and his boss have confirmed that the bolded is not true.

Stromes biggest plus is that he didn't completely tank Panarin's production. But the truth is when Panarin goes, Strome goes and when he doesn't, Strome doesn't. This is akin to Tavares making Moulson, Okposo and Lee much richer than they would have been if they had played with a different player.

Buchnevich has a ways to go to be Amonte, and he hasn't been Amonte so far in his career.
Amonte was a waaaay more dynamic player. He was a borderline line-driving wing. Buch is a nice hybrid scorer but very much a complementary player. He doesn’t make space for himself or his teammates. I like Buch but he’s much different from Tony A.

Had they gone Suzuki or Necas with that 7thOA instead of Lias it would be viewed in the same light as the Brass for Zibanejad trade.

Maybe @Edge can answer this, but had they moved McDonagh and Stepan at the draft in 2016 (I know they had a deal in place with Edmonton and it was heavily rumored that Stepan to Arizona was also on the verge of happening that year) do they still move Brassard a few weeks later?

I mean we would have sucked all of the ass in 16-2017, but I always wondered just how far they were considering tearing it down that summer. When the letter went out I was semi annoyed because I knew that the entire process that they were about to go through was something that they really wanted to start almost 2 years before it happened (but for whatever reason, they tried to do 2 things at once... which they sort of tried to do this year and somehow it worked out) but with how its played out, I'd say we're doing okay.

From what I've heard they were very torn on the roster in 2016. The problem is you had a 27 yer old McD, a 25 year old Kreider, and a 34 year old Lundqvist. That's hard to look at and say "let's tear it down."

So they went for a re-fresh. Ultimately, the roster was too far gone, they needed an overhaul.

Stepan/Brassard would've happened no matter what. With or without McD.

But only one would've been moved in 2016. Ultimately, I think the other still would've followed in 2017.

Fortunately for the Rangers, it was the Brassard deal that finalized and so that's the direction they went. In essence, the timing probably got them better deals.

Having said that, if McD went for the fourth, and the Rangers nabbed Keller, who knows how everything else would've played out. Then you start getting into weird what-ifs.

What if Vancouver prefers Mittelstadt over Pettersson? Vegas would still take Glass and the Rangers would've taken Pettersson. Or what if Colorado trades the 4th pick for the 7 and 21? Rangers still take Pettersson.

But then how does that impact 2018, 2019 and 2020?

Now we have Pettersson, but we might not have Kravtsov, Miller, Lundkvist, Kakko and Lafreniere.

It starts to become dizzying.

And you remember some of that Bennett chit-chat stuff from six months back.

So again, some of these concepts and names are not unchartered territory for our front office.

I was wondering if Bennett's name would come up again in all of this Flames talk. Teams line up really well in terms of the Rangers' needs and we know their GM isn't afraid of big, multi-player deals. Question is whether or not they generate enough playoff success that they decide to give it all another go next year as-is.

Exactly. My gut feeling is that, as much as the board is probably more in favor of showing Strome the door, Buchnevich has more value, more interest around the league, and more likely to bring the piece(s) the Rangers want. So, if a deal does get done, I expect Buchnevich to be going the other way. If you bring in a center, you can still move Strome to wing. You can also give both Gauthier and Kravtsov the opportunity to compete for a spot.

Id assume at some point Kreider moves to the right side as well to accommodate Lafriemiere.

I think there will be changes.

They might be sweeping epic changes that generate pages of chatter, and they might not fill every hole on the roster, but there will be at least some moves.

Right off the bat, at least one goalie won't be back next year. Maybe two.

They're going to look to change things up with our forwards. How is unknown, but there's a desire there.

They're still going to pursue a LD that can, at the very least, give them a bridge. At best, maybe they can find someone who not only bridges the transition, but is also young enough to be a part of the future as well.

The Rangers mentioned his name, don't know what Calgary's interest level is.

Both teams are familiar with the names the other likes. That's usually enough to have a decent coversation.
Is strome on that list at all? Would NYR be off looking at ada strome and the car 1 for Lindholm and hanafin so they can keep buch? Or based on the possible d leaving Calgary soon would they consider Ada and strome for Lindholm?

I don’t think Vegas would trade Karlsson and he is on the first year of an eight year contract. I’m sure interested in Glass and even more interested in Peyton Krebs, their first pick from last year. If you are talking about moving DeAngelo, it’s got to be a value for value trade. Vegas is a win now team.
Who else is a win now team that might trade their 1st for a roster player?

Never heard Strome connected with Calgary.

Not to say it couldn't happen, but it hasn't been a thing thus far.

And that might be an option as well, depending on the team.

ADA and Lundkvist will appeal to different teams looking for different benefits.

I have very little interest in moving Lundkvist before I have seen him suit up for the Rangers unless the offer blows me away. Same as with ADA, really.

Either one has excellent, though different value. And the Rangers are well aware of this.

They won't feel rushed to make a move. But if a player they want comes along, I don't think they'll hesitate either.

I just wonder if Calgary is gonna want to make a shakeup type of trade like that. Feel like they have a chance to go deep this year and maybe even win it all.

how far they actually go could determine the answer to that question...

Really depends.

On how certain players perform, or where they think their weaknesses are.

They're not at a loss for centers, or guys who can play center. They do have some room for uprades on defense and on the wings.

Do they go deep? Do they get bounced? A run to finals might give them a pause. A thrashing in the second round might steer them another direction.

Just have to wait and see.

do people not watch this guy play? I really don’t get it. Do they expect guys playing 25 mins a night in all situations not to get beat or turn pucks over ever? Guy was our best player against Carolina when we had to play big boy hockey. That’s why he’s here.
Yeah, he got beat a few times but I thought he played well and was very noticeable out there.
