I just spoke with a good source. That I have not spoken with for very long. Knows the NYR organization extremely well. He personally thinks we draft Lafreniere as #1. Strome, Lias and Hajek will all likely be moved. Georgiev maybe. ADA too, if the right deal is there. Buch gets a pass Until TDL 2021. Staal likely bought Out. Hank retires (this is not my pirate source that knows These things much better). Smith might actually stay around. Got some praise actually. Our Carolina pick is in play, for sure. Lots of other possibilities - but so many variables. Going to be Lots of unexpected things happening in the cap strapped era. Gotta be cool as a cucumber . Buckle up as we enter the age of corona
If Hajek is traded who is going to be exposed at the expansion draft?

If Hajek is traded who is going to be exposed at the expansion draft?

Hajek needs to play 40 games next year to be eligible to be exposed. If he gets traded, we'll sign or trade for some other cheap dman who will play at least 40 games.

Looks like Miller is stick around. Training with Kreider this summer?

And it’s easy to say “just don’t play him” but we know that our coach legitimately believes he’s a viable NHL option.

does he really though? or did he just have no other options with zero depth and no cap space? staal was a healthy scratch early in the year but hajek crapped the bed and was awful...in the playoffs staal was 6th in ice time by a good margin and played under 15:00/game at ES during the season...and quinn went with smith who was his 4th line winger on the top pair after skjei got traded...

that doesn't tell me he thinks staal is good. that tells me that we had 6 nhl dmen and he had no choice.

If Henrik is seriously retiring, why would they move Georgiev?

Isn't the whole point of Hank being gone so the Rangers can keep Georgiev in the short term...

Also I'll be a bit disappointed if they hit the eject button on Hajek already. I know he sucks now, but he's also young and was the sticking point in the McDonagh deal. I think he deserves a bit more time

It is either this rational post, or Quinn denied a group of fans the satisfaction of watching a player get embarrassed and demeaned publicly with benchings, demotions, and tirades to the press.

agreed, wouldn’t cut bait on hajek yet.

"A Marc Staal buyout will save the Rangers $2.133 million on the cap next season with a one year penalty of $1.06 million in 2021-22.

A Brendan Smith buyout will save the Rangers $1.566 million on the cap next season with a one year penalty of $783K in 2021-22."

Is that erroneous from Forever Blueshirts?

it depends on what you can get for georgiev. you aren't going to dump him but I also wouldn't pass up on good value to keep him for 2 years and then move him

That is correct. I don't see any reason to buyout Smith though.

Again, I'd have the conversation with Staal about being demoted and loaned to Europe for the season if he so chose. The ability to bury ~$1m of his contract next season with the ability to not carry anything over, to me, is the ideal scenario. if he says 'no' then a buyout is next or a trade for a less onerous contract.

Henrik retires
Staal is bought out
Deangelo, Strome and Andersson are packaged for a #1 LD
We sign Mikael Granlund to a one or two year deal
Maybe sign someone like Trevor van Riesmdyk to be the #6/#7 D

Kreider-Zibanjead-Buchnevich
Panarin-Granlund-Kakko
Lafreniere-Chytil (who I think is more suited to the wing, but yeah)-Kravtsov
Lemieux-Howden-Gauthier

XX-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Two of: Hajek/Reunanen/Miller/Smith/van Riemsdyk

Igor
Georgiev

Expansion draft I would presume. Get some assets, sign vet UFA to expose, yeah....

I think he’d prefer the buyout and being a UFA rather than agreeing to go to Hartford. He’d have to approve any trade, and I can’t see a contender being interested. So it’s a buyout, or it’s sitting him for a year, or playing him.

So with Hank retiring and Staal getting bought out. What are some realistic C targets and LD targets that you may have heard of since those are the areas we seem to be targeting? Brodin, Lindholm? Cirelli?
