It did sound like Gorts really lost faith in some aspects of the team to the point that he will want to make some changes. Like to me at least it definitely felt like his was paving way for cutting some ties.

Thing is — there can’t be many aspects of the team for him to lose faith in, right?

Goaltending? Nope.

Right defense? Trouba was good, Fox is still a rookie and TDA was hurt.

Left defense? Lindgren was fine and the dinosaurs actually were pretty fine too. But like it just don’t fit. It can’t be that he now felt boom I want to drop Staal and Smith. If he could have he would have a long time ago.

Kreider, Zib, Panarin and co are off the table for obvious reasons.

Buch wasn’t bad, but he must be lifted by Zib to really perform at the highest level and it’s not his fault that Zib, Panarin and co were off. Could be traded, but that has been a train in motion a long time now.

Kakko is still in diapers. Fast played 75% of a shift. Lemieux only played one game.

So what then? Who have he lost faith in? The only guys left are Strome, Chytil, Howden, DiGiuseppi, McKegg and Gauthier. I thought Gauthier was fine and DiGiuseppi and McKegg prolly had no faith of Gorton to start with.

Strome, Chytil and/or Howden?

Well there’s always the off chance he meant Quinn

on the 'logjams' at certain positions...it makes it hard as fans to speculate on future line combos...but can also make it fun to speculate about different potential scenarios...but I think we need to all wrap our heads around the fact that a bunch of the youngsters we are loving right now aren't going to be around long term, obviously some might not pan out but some will also get traded...

and we also can't think about them as individuals in a vacuum...i think the talent depth has gotten to the point where line combos, chemistry and putting together a winning team might become the most important factor (along with cap hit) when it comes down to keeping player A but moving player B. it won't be as simple as player A is better than player B.

I personal think it is super exciting to see how the TEAM is rounded out to support the elite players.

Theoretically, if Nashville was looking to make major changes this off-season and was willing to move on from Kyle Turris for practically nothing while retaining some of his contract would anyone be interested? Say the offer was:

Turris @ $4m cap hit (Nashville retains $2m) for Crawley + Ronning

I still would not rule out Georgiev being part of a package.

that is probably the best asset management...and while it would rule out a buyout of hank. even if hank retires, I could still see georgiev traded if the right deal is out there. you can find a backup goalie.

Say you the run the following next year:

Laf-Zib-Buch
Bread-Strome-Kakko
Kreider-Chytil-Barron/Kravstov/Gauthier
Lemeuix
/Howden-4th Line Center-RH 4th Line C/RW/Richards

I think Howden is a good utility player in the mold of a Jay McClement plus with maybe some experience, will power, and added size and smarts becomes a Colton Scissions. That to me is a very valuable NHL player because they can eat minutes. At 20-21. Undersized out of the Dub. Playing the middle. He's at best had success in the face-off dot, while playing wing, while penalty killing, and has had some really good physical days. He was smart about it. I'd like to see him on the wing to start. I'd like to see a 4th line that can check, PK, and that is a mix of 3 natural centers with a mix of lefty/righty. Richards is a very good get in that regard.

Between Barron, Kravstov, & Gauthier- it's a matter of whoever is going. Whoever is doing the things the team needs is the one getting the minutes. For a young team, having a developmental slot is a good thing, and this is a good way to leverage internal competition and get guys going. Get them fighting for the NHL pay check if need be. It'll earn these guys respect in the long run, but it helps build an identity.

The Rangers have veteran team builders, they've been through these cycles a number of times as players and management. So I really can't say I'm worried about that, but there is a certain product that would do the Ranger Blue proud, and that's what I want to see get built.

Buch and Strome are where you can trade for an upgrade. The Rangers have enough depth and capital where I think you can see a Buch/Strome & Barron/Kravstov/Gauthier & Hajek/Robertson/Prospect package that gets you that top 6 upgrade.

For that type of deal to happen, you need a guy who needs to get paid, and his team can't pay him or a guy who wants out.

how is turris @4 mil per for 4 years better than just keeping strome?

Minor point, but Buch away from Kreider and Zibanejad was quite decent this season. Kreider and Zibanejad away from Buch....not so much. I don't see Buch as the driver for the line necessarily, but rather the catalyst, that makes things take off when he's there

Strome though? Yeesh

Full NMC the first 4 years, transitions to a MNTC/NMC with 15-team no-trade for final 3 years

EDIT: You were looking at his current deal, which is always listed as the top deal on CF. The upcoming deal is right below. So yes, right now, until the official offseason begins, he has a 11-team no-trade on his current contract.
Thanks for the precise information.

That sounds like he’s done in exchange for a front office job. Hank really wasn’t that bad though...like to the point where he could feel like he could still play. Maybe it’s about the NMC?

If Hank walks away what a guy. Love him no matter what but that would be stand up allowing both kids in G to stay and the 8.5 off the cap

They have ~5.3M in space right now with 10F-3D-2G signed. RFA's are Cirelli, Sergachev, Stephens, Verhaeghe, and Cernak. UFAs are Maroon, Shattenkirk, Rutta, Bogosian, and Schenn.

Most of their players are under some form of NTC/NMC/MNTC except for Goodrow (1/.925), Coleman (1/1.8), McElhinney (1/1.3), or Paquette (1/1.65). Point and Vasi don't have them, but Tampa isn't trading them. In total, those four contracts are 5.675M, so they could make ~11M in space available

Here's the compensation tiers:

The Rangers could probably push for the higher end of the 6.34M-8.46M tier to force Tampa's hand on one of Sergachev/Cirelli. Obviously the Rangers have some cap/roster considerations to make as well.

Thanks!!!

Got to say, that 6-8m comp for Sergachev isnt that bad either...

That's the real gangster move.

Offersheet one and then hit the other with an offersheet once they match the first and have their hands tied ;)
