Instead of being patient and trying to build a team that can have one long window, it feels like they're trying to build one that maybe has two small windows. But that's just my gut feeling and I'm sure there's plenty of people who will disagree with me

But hey, at least we made the play offs, because experience is crucial to prospects like *checks notes* Steven Fogarty

Why not? Including this year this will be 8 first round picks in the last 4 drafts and most likely 4 top 10 picks. Not even including trades for guys like ADA, fox and Lindgren. I think we are getting the pieces it’s getting the development going in the right direction.
I’m with you in terms of rushing talent tho. Not rushing these kids and putting them in the best place to succeed has now become the main factor.
I don't really want to write a gigantic post right now, but I think they jumped the gun on 'accelerating' this rebuild and I feel like there's going to be a decent amount of contract problems in the not so distant future

When did 20 two years after a draft become a make or break year? Remember the three year rule I post about once here every week?

I'm going to make mention again of the 2012-13 season being the start of this warped reality where kids were thrown into the spotlight before they were ready.

They added Panarin at 11 million a year and Trouba got 8 million. Kreider was also resigned to a long term deal. It's a rebuild but at the same time, teams don't make those deals if they are doing a full rebuild, it that makes sense.

i want to compete as soon as possible but i also want to keep adding prospects and do it the right way. I don't want a 2-3 year window, i want a 7-8 year window for once.

Some of y'all bent so out of shape it is hilarious

Imagine seeing what just happened to Pittsburgh and Edmonton just now and still being like this

At least Pittsburgh had 3 cups to look back at. They definitely look like a team that is slowing down.

Edmonton though, lol.

I think the best case is they Chicago it.

Win, sell a bit, win, sell a bit, win again.

As long as they actually develop a really good young core under control for a bit, they'll be fine. The big contracts are annoying, but ACCELERATE!

Totally see that side. I wasn't for giving Trouba that deal and was 50/50 on moving Kreider. Didn't think we were getting Panarin.
All I'm saying is that if we properly develop our prospects (we supposedly have had a top 5 prospect pool in the league the last few years) then we should be a very very competitive team the next decade. Definitely not for handing out anymore huge deals to free agents and even some of our own guys (strome).
I know not everyone here believes in developing a winning culture but I don't wanna become the Sabres or even Oilers for that matter. Just drafting high every year while watching teams draft much lower and get just as much out of their picks if not more.

For guys like Chytil, Fox, ADA, Gauthier, Shesty and even Kakko this could have been a terrific learning experience. Maybe it still will become one. I was hoping for a hard fought 5 game series against Carolina.
I saw a guy like Kotkaniemi who's young career may have hit a positive turning point in these playoff/playins whatever you wanna call them. You can't really teach this kind of intense hockey unless you experience it. I don't care how good you are.

I wasn't expecting to get Trouba. Panarin i was expecting to get since he wanted to be in a big city and we always go after the big names, plus he's ab amazing player so yeah. Kreider i wanted to trade since i wanted to keep adding assets to this team but i understand why they resigned him. I just don't want to be stuck in the middle of the road and become Minnesota. Just have to wait and see but so far, i don't see a huge difference with this team and the one before it. We are younger but will we be better and draft the right guys?

This is the lineup After some stuff

Pan R Strome Kakko
Buch Zibs Chytil
Krieder D Strome Kravtsov
Lemmy Howton Gauthier
DiG

Lindgren Fox
Maataa Trouba
Staal/Hajek ADA

Igor
Khudobin

Even though I like Ryan Strome, and his brother, I'm tempted to give the "We need less Staal's on this team, not more" quote from back when the team was looking to acquire Eric Staal.

Which team before it?
If our prospects even half pan out we should be in better spot than Minnesota. Minnesota has some long term contracts with guys who are really on the down side of their careers.
I believe we are still the youngest team in the league. Just don't hand out anymore crazy contracts and hopefully when Staal, Hank, Smith are off the books we will be in a decent spot.

There was a huge misstep the summer we drafted Lias. They had to get out of Stepan's contract and a market never materialized. The trade worked out in hindsight, but Gorton wanted to retool. No cap space to bring in a center so he had to draft a ready to go center at #7.

Because it was time for one last run, they buy out Girardi and sign Shattenkirk.

So many repercussion from not recognizing the obvious. Making an NFL style pick of addressing an immediate need. Two decisions on defense that led to buy out hits on both players still felt today. Held onto Zuccarello too long.

I'm not harping on the past, but I'm seeing the pattern again and that's my issue. Decisions feel forced again. So impatient with right D they had to grab Trouba instead of seeing how ADA and Fox looked. You couldn't ride out Shattenkirk during a rebuild with those two? Blow $8m in cap and a 1st? It's a damn fine trade value wise but a poor decision. This isn't hindsight, I was saying that back then.

It feels like the draft picks all have to hit and in a best case scenario time frame. We don't have the cap to fill holes with anything but ELCs. We have to paint ourselves into a corner for more bridge deals because we can't extend RFAs, again. So many problems would be solved if they just got out of their way for one full year.

I know Foudys brother is in this upcoming draft.

Can he skate like this brother?
Liam is a hound freaking dog. from what i hear his brother can skate really well but not sure if the Rangers will spend one of their firsts for him and he probably won't be around after that

This is true and worries me a bit! It's good to have a mix of some guys with experience on the bottom 6 with guys who are barely 21.
Somehow JG is gonna have to find a diamond in the rough with a very reasonable contract

I agree 100%. Sometimes it's like it's a never ending cycle and it's almost like one part of management wants to win while another one wants to draft well and rebuild and they try to combine it. Trading Stepan and signing Shattenkirk was a disaster, awful. You make a lot of good points.

Oh Gotcha.
Let's hope a guy like Kakko and hopefully the first rounder we draft this year can hit their ceiling and provide that little extra. Maybe if a kid like Cherepanov was around in 2014 in his prime that might have made all the difference in 3 overtime games.

If we drafted Tarasenko or even a guy like Schwartz, maybe we win in 2014. Cherepanov was unfortunate and nobody could have stopped that. Rangers could have stopped blowing top 10 picks and maybe made the right choice in 2010. Those mistakes cost teams cups.
