That is not nearly enough to offset taking on a huge contract. Not to mention that ZBad's contract is going to be north of $10 by itself. And then, soon enough, the youngsters will be done with ECLs. Cap space needs to be managed properly.

Maybe ... what about going for a good young kid at C w a Strome / Kravtsov package

Hank leaves to Europe , resign Fast

Kreider , Zib, Buch
Panarin , Trade , Fast
Laf, Chytil , Kakko
Lemieux ,Howden , Gauthier
PDG spare

What Hank decides has such a domino effect on this offseason. if he retires, there will be so much more flexibility.

Still have trouble seeing anyone walk away from a contract. But we'll see.

Not basing this on anything, but could you imagine the meltdown if we traded Lafreniere to the Kings for Byfield and VILARDI? The player we could've (and maybe should've) taken in 2017?

We'd be the laughingstock of the NHL.

If Lias is the biggest bust we have coming out of all of this, we'll be in incredible shape

.
Agreed. I was actually a fan of the Lias pick. Now obviously I didn’t know about the mental/emotional issues he was going to have. I hoping we can still Sal’s age him even as a bottom 6 C

As of today, Lafreniere is still not even Rangers property.

I would take a breath and assess before we make "go for it" moves.

I give Chytil a real shot before I bring in a 2C.
I think they take this season, at least until the deadline, and see if they can get some answers to some questions with what they already have before they start looking for big 'go for it' moves

**Unless you're offer-sheeting Cirelli.

That's something I'll push my chips to the table on.

We probably shouldn’t spend the Hank money though even if he does retire. We are going to need that pretty soon

100%. If Chytil can handle the 2C role, there's no need to sign anyone other than guys already on the roster that management wants to keep.

I'm ok with Strome on a 1 year deal and hoping Chytil can take over the year after. But then the Carolina pick has to be spent on a center.

I propose a super trade with Anaheim

To ANA:
DeAngelo
Buchnevich
Zac Jones
Car 1st

To NYR:
Hampus Lindholm
Trevor Zegras

Strome gets signed to a 1 year deal to bridge until Zegras is ready for prime time. Need to give to get premium assets.
I don't hate this.

One year is fine, but I'd still rather see Chytil get a really good look at 2C. The sooner they find out if he can or can't, the better.

it looks like we will have the winger depth that even as the 3C he should have good enough wingers to show whether that potential is there

I understand this is HF... but Chytil is no where near ready to take the 2C position. '

There's no logic or data to back up that scenario. He would need to develop dramatically in the offseason. Is it possible? sure. Is it likely? no.

Zegras is Anaheim's one great asset, they're not moving him for anything.

Anyone you bring in will probably cost you more money than simply keeping a Strome would.

Kravstov has not proven anything yet and Strome is not bringing in a 24 year old 2C.

What would people think of a defense like this:

Hajek/Miller-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Oleksiak-ADA

if you mean for next year, I don't think miller is ready for that spot...but long term might be a different story

I don't think it's as big of a stretch as you believe. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with trying to find out next season. Chytil is big, fast and will only get stronger. The kid is 20.
