And wouldn't it be hilarious if the return was in fact...

...Lindholm and Hanafin?

It would be pretty funny. Though I think Calgary is one of those situations where the guys we've discussed here are probably playing their way out of trade talks. Bennett and Hanafin have both stepped up for the Flames. Lindholm has been great for them up front, albeit a bit less so this post-season, and is their only viable top-six player who is also a right-handed shot.

That's a really funny trade to look at in hindsight as well. A lot of Flames fans thought they got absolutely bent over and that Hanafin was the only saving grace in the deal. People thought a struggling Sam Bennett was what Lindholm was worth. Fast forward two years and Lindholm is the better of the two pieces they got, is now considered borderline untouchable to their fans, and is on a pretty damn nice contract depending on if you think he's the guy from last year or this year, offensively.

Watch the Rangers trade DeAngelo, Buch, and Lias to Florida for Huberdeau and Mike Matheson only to have Matheson turn into a cornerstone piece on a cup winning team.

What the hell is wrong with some of you people who are actually willing to stomach watching Alec Martinez in a Rangers sweater. f*** that guy and f*** NBC for always showing the replay of that goddamn goal.

Right?! He will never wear a Rangers jersey, just can't see the franchise ever doing it...nor should they.

Very very true, but then we are paying a 3rd pairing defenseman 6m per year bc thats probably what he will command. Im in favor of keeping him but if we can swing a trade of Deangelo, Buch, and car 1, for a top 6 center and a very good LD then im down. like Sam Steel and Lindholm
Except that when you look at his time, you see that he is pretty far away from being a third pairing d-man.

I don't think Tampa would make that trade, the whole reason they trade Cirelli is cap concerns.

A Cirelli deal would most likely have to include Lundkvist+. Which I do.

Idk made his point pretty clearly I'd say.
Is Tony saying Vince doesn’t have GM in his future? What guys is he agreeing with? “I’ll agree with the guys on your trade ideas with me involved in them.” isn’t the clearest phrasing.

Am I the only one that is upset they extended krieder ? I keep thinking about what the package we could have gotten for him. I know hindsight is 20/20 but Now winning the lottery and potentially drafting another LW , it seems like keeping krieder was not the right choice

I'm no expert but are you familiar with Chaos Theory? There is an extremely likely chance that a Kreider trade would result in us not having the first overall pick.

If you look at the Kreider extension, it needs to be done in a vacuum where the first overall pick is out of play. If you liked it at the time (I don't know if you did or not), it can't suddenly have been the wrong move because we are now likely going to draft a franchise winger. At least, those are my opinions.

Also see the butterfly effect.

All these questions are viable if that one scenario plays out the other way and Kreider is traded.

Do they trade Skjei? Kreider immediately was hurt. Is the player replacing him in the lineup after going to get hurt? How is team morale after losing Kreider and knowing the team is straight selling off? Do they win more with Kreider being replaced with that top prospect they were rumored to be getting and not get matched up with Carolina? Are they playing the Islanders? Could they have won a series against them?

There are many more outcomes that could have changed it all, including making no moves at all and self renting Kreider and not trading Skjei.

You can be upset they kept Kreider on his deal, but we do not know how everything goes if something else is done with the team. Would I like to have more assets to get that center we need knowing we'd have Lafreniere and Panarin on LW for the next 7 years? Absolutely, but we don't.

We will have three top 6 LWs in the very near future. We'd also have more cap space, but at the same time, Kreider is the kind of player I'd want Lafreniere around. He's molded himself into a leader. Lafreniere can learn a lot from him. A lot of the young guys can.

Yes, Lafreniere is captain material, but he will need to learn on the NHL level, and Kreider providing that and being around him for the long term can only be good for him. Sure, others can mentor, but how many guys have been in the organization while winning? Hank and Staal are on the way out. There is something about winning in NY that is different and he can help with that side of things as they build into a contender.

chris Kreider is still the best net front powerplay presence in the league right? That didn’t change when we won the lottery?

If we were to trade Kreider this off season would we get positive value like a pick or prospect or would we need to pay for another team to take him by adding a pick or prospect?

The flat cap factors in. If we could get assets then a good signing right?

You know I was thinking about Matheson for awhile when it came to the Rangers. He signed until 2025-2026 at 4.875 a year. NTC doesn't kick in until the year after next, still young at 26. Of course unless ADA is dealt then we have an issue with protection.

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on him--I know he was hurt this year but it looked like he was starting to come into his own before that.

I'm not saying ADA for him but maybe Buch and a small add. Florida I believe doesn't have cap space issues but maybe looking to skate things up.

and he could be going up against 3rd pairing defense ( eg. Marc Staal ) moving forward.

It will be a massive mis-match

I was just thinking about this from an asset management perspective. I don’t want to trade him now but the perception of some here is that he (or more specifically his contract) is an impediment to the rebuild. We have a lot of pieces and can make moves from a position of strength as we continue to build the team into a cup contender.

Krieder is NOT getting traded.

You will find that is the minority of the people. Usually the same people that insist on floating Trouba trade ideas. Kreider is not getting moved. Simply not happening. He will continue to skate LW with ZBad.

Kreider isn't going to get traded a few months after he signed an extension. The optics of that would be horrible.

I wouldn't pencil him in next to Zibanejad though.

It's really not as hard as you're making it out to be. You honestly don't know who he is saying doesn't have a GM job in his future?
