Here is a bit of something for you guys

Toronto is going to be making some changes. The current staff said that they could win with the team assembled and that has not been the case. They are going to change their assistant coach, and possibly some other positional coaches as well. Some shuffling will be done with their middle 6 as well. The top studs over there won't be moved unless an offer that improves the overall team is made to them, they are not being shopped.

We know that they had interest in Georgiev and I believe that when the staff changes go through that they will revisit that. Another name that could end up included in a deal with Georgiev going there is... Brett Howden.

I'll let you guys know if I get wind of anything else interesting regarding the Rangers.

I think the Leafs are an interesting trade partner. Again, I circle back to Dermott as a guy who could really do well with a change of scenery and could grow into a viable short-term partner for Trouba. Rangers could take Campbell off the Leafs hands and get a capable back up for Igor who is also expansion eligible. They also have Kapanen and Johnsson who are middle-six options on decent contracts and are useful players. Especially if the Rangers move a winger for help on D.

I'm guessing they'd see Howden as a guy they can sit on and develop as a near-term replacement for Kerfoot. Not as a guy who is a staple in their lineup next season. We'd certainly need a follow-up signing or trade to make it work given our lack of center depth. Jankowski come on down.

Am I the only one that is upset they extended krieder ? I keep thinking about what the package we could have gotten for him. I know hindsight is 20/20 but Now winning the lottery and potentially drafting another LW , it seems like keeping krieder was not the right choice

No you are not the only one but that debate raged for weeks and now it's over, what's done is done, he's here.

Just looking are rosters is they Cam Fowler contract bad ? Would he go well with Trouba ?

6 more years at 6.25.

He quietly had a really good season this year, but pass.

Hmm, I've never been the biggest Fowler fan and what not, but still an interesting idea. I've also felt, when I've seen him lately, that he basically is playing as good hockey as he ever has during his career. Seems like he has calmed down a lot, but that he still got that top stride/edgework that he always have had and that it probably will mature really well. From that perspective, 6.25m per is nothing.

Its kind of absurd to look at when you getting a player, but I also noticed that he got a really buy-out friendly contract, i.e. somewhat back-loaded.

Ultimately, I think it would be hard to make the ends meet. I.e. that Anaheim probably would want a fair amount in return and that the cost for us, given that we have to clear the dinosaurs, would be seemed as too high. But if he could be available cheap, I would definitely be interested.

Vegas isn’t trading Glass.

Glass replaces Stastny to help Vegas’ Cap. Also the Rangers don’t need more futures. Vegas is one of the best teams in the league. Their only “weakness” is they are Cap’ed out. We can help each other out for sure. I’m not surprised people hate my Vegas trade idea, after all. This is hockey’s future not hockey’s present.

....or maybe it's just not a great proposal.
Tony D scored 15 more points than Stastny in 3 less games, is 10 years younger, was on a worse team and is under team control.
The only way your proposal makes sense is if we're living in hockey's past mate.

I enjoy Vince's stuff but he's starting to rival Larry in his off-the-wall trade proposals. DeAngelo, Lias, and the Canes 1st for Cirelli? Yikes. The Legend of Cirelli is getting way out of hand.

The Nylander proposal is even worse.

And that’s why Krebs is in the deal. Krebs is the hedge piece.

I'm trying to figure out where Uncle Larry and old man Rick seem to be getting their information that if Lundqvist doesn't retire, it's almost a certainty he gets bought out.

Gonna be a tough look for them when that inevitably doesn't happen

What do you mean, the difference of value between Cirelli and Brodin is TDA and Lias in favor for Cirelli seems fair, doesn't it? ;)

JK, I definitely agree with you. Cirelli is not even remotely one step removed from being an Seb Aho or Point or Barzal. TDA is 4th in D scoring in the entire NHL. Him plus a 1st and a prospect and you must get a potential good top center in return.

That Vince article reads like he browsed here for names and then just totally took a guess on value looking at capfriendly.

Rick's article he posted this morning says that when the Rangers sign Strome and Tony to one year deals, they'll both be UFA's the following season and traded at next deadline for picks.....

You'd think he'd send this shit over to Shayna to proofread before hitting submit. But that's the Rick Carpinello difference the Athletic is paying for

Watching some of the playoffs... We need more people willing to go to the middle of the ice. We were/are Perimeter Peters.

Lafreniere is about as a good of start as you can get. A player that I've been impressed with has been Gourde. If TB was to retain a bit, I'd be all over it.

Who knew, we only needed French Canadians for some grit.

And that’s why Krebs is in the deal. Krebs is the hedge piece.

Respectfully, I don't think the difference between Tony D and Stastny is Krebs.
I feel like we'd be giving up the best player now and the best player in the future and it'd look like a horrific trade a few years down the line. We could draft a future C with the Carolina pick and grab a Stastny level player for a 2nd + a minor prospect at the deadline if we're in the hunt, I just don't see the imminent need to throw Tony away unless you're getting a little bit more of a sure thing ala Hampus Lindholm.

Do you seriously think we're a Stastny and Martinez away from being a legit contender ?

Nine possible trade targets for the New York Rangers

Vince does what we do all day and gets paid for it.

It’s a good list of targets for sure. Danault would be a great add I haven’t considered but he is a UFA at the end of next season.

Prices seem high but they are admittedly always tough to gauge. It does seem like exhibit A for underselling the value of DeAngelo, however.

Danault would be a great add but only if we are addressing our D now.

Stastny, if he is moved, is going to be done strictly for cap reasons.

Those guys can be had for pretty cheap if you're willing/able to take on the space.

Would definitely rather have Lindholm if possible.

I do think the Rangers are a Lafreniere (needs to be included here too), Stastny and Martinez away from contending. Getting the first overall pick changes the timeline a bit. The Rangers have two Hart caliber players in Zibanejad and Panarin. A full season of Igor, and there is no reason Igor can’t do what Carter Hart is doing.

Rangers are weakest at secondary scoring, (helped by Lafreniere, season 2 Kakko and Stastny), face offs (Stastny), PK (also Stastny) and getting a better for Trouba (Martinez). Also with Hank likely leaving, they are going to need some leadership (Stastny & Martinez) and it wouldn’t hurt if they could get some former cup winner(s) (Martinez, and would also look at the cost for Bonino who would help with what Stastny does as well) To fill that void.

The East is weak, there isn’t a Colorado or Vegas like team. If Igor gets hot they can make some things happen. I think the biggest mistake that the Rangers could make is to take a step back by trying to fill too many holes with youth that isn’t ready, and may never contribute. The last thing they need is to risk regression, especially with Trouba. We saw this happen to Roszival. 2021 is when things should bust wide open, but need to make sure there is a good development year now and that we aren’t compromising cap space for that summer.

Other interesting tidbits in Carp's article this AM:
If [Lundqvist] doesn’t retire, he’s going to have to be bought out. The Rangers can’t and, according to Gorton, won’t go into 2020-21 with three goalies. Igor Shesterkin is going to be their No. 1. And unless somebody comes up with a whopper of an offer for Alexandar Georgiev — highly unlikely — he’s not going anywhere, either.
It’s also possible that Gorton will have to do this without his assistant GM, Chris Drury, who has the blessing of the Rangers to interview for the vacant Florida GM position.
Further buyouts could be necessary — and really there are only two candidates: Marc Staal and Brendan Smith. The Rangers probably would prefer to have both play out their deals, which expire after ’20-21, rather than add more dead cap space the following season.
Unless my definition of a "whopper" is different from his, I'm not sure that's what it'll take to move Georgiev, and that third point in particular reads like Carp speculating, but the bit about Drury being given permission to interview for the FLA job is new to me – not sure if I'd read it anywhere before.
