B. This organization is hopelessly devoted to Staal. They moved a superior player to forward for most of the season just so that there was a spot for him to play. They continued to send him out there no matter how bad he was. I haven't seen him called out once for his performance outside of being benched for 3 games (which really looked like a move to try and wake the team up more than it was about sitting a player who doesn't deserve to play.)
Poor Danny Zuko...

I'm not sure I'd say that he can't win. But the fact that he hasn't won (4 playoff series wins in 15 years) is suggestive of something, right?

There's nothing suggestive about him winning a Cup, though, right? Gotta love selective facts. I mean, Columbus probably shouldn't have beaten Toronto (guess that doesn't count?) in the first place and lost some pretty big players over the off season. I think he actually overachieved this year.

All of his Rangers teams were flawed and he got a lot of miles out of them, too.

According to this place, it's cup or bust. Those Rangers teams he had were awful except for 2012 and everyone hated that team because of how they played lmao.

his team 1000000000000% overachieved this year.

I wouldn’t say they were expected to lose to the leafs. Many people were picking the jackets before that series.

I mean, anytime you have Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander as your top 4 offensive guys, you would think they beat a team like Columbus

It's gotta be the coaching, they are just a soft team. No balls, no guts, no fire inside at all. Just a bunch of dullards.

Not just if I buy the NHLe stat, but it would sure suck to trade Buchnevich and watch this happen:

This is what I've been saying dude. Not even just based off of the NHLe stats but he's always had the talent to be primed for a breakout and he undoubtedly improved this season.

Winning a Cup is of course suggestive of success. None of the four coaches to win a Cup before Torts in 2004 are head coaches in the NHL today. It was a different time.

I agree, what he got out of Columbus was very impressive. I've said as much. He's a great coach to throw on a team lacking in offensive talent, he can bridge that difference in talent with other teams very well.

I think Torts tends to squeeze a lot out of his teams and often gets them to over-achieve.

The challege is that the squeezing process takes a toll and I'm not entirely sure he makes his job easier by fully taking advantage of the talent he often has, or by embracing the higher-end talent he has and creating an environment in which they wish to remain.

So sometimes there's a part of me that admires how hard his team's work, while also feeling like sometimes they don't necessarily work smarter in the process.

Not sure and i don't really care tbh but people act like he's the worst coach to ever exist.
I think we're going to look back on that period of time when you were trying to figure out the text under your avatar as the peak of your posting career here.

getting the most out of your team and getting your team, to include the impact players, to embrace the process is a balance, and its one that he manages to f*** up regularly, often at the expense of going further than a single round in the playoffs.

Torts teams are built by him for sprints, but he won't win another Cup. He's a one-trick pony.

Imo he is a good transitional coach who can implement a defensive foundation and then make way for a more offensive minded coach who can take advantage of the ingrained defensive abilities. I believe thats what made AV good here, all he had to do was take the reins off a bit.

It's entirely possible and I hope it happens for him.

But with the way that this team is structured, both with players and contracts, I would sacrifice what ever jump in offensive production he may have for a guy who checks other boxes. Im not saying acquire some scrub just cuz TUFFNESS n GRIT, but those things plus actual top 6 skills are something that we're lacking.

We have a ton of offense already.

I don't completely disagree you on this subject.

I think Torts' teams are often gassed by the time they reach the playoffs because he struggles to find that balance for them.

We had our skaters diving around stopping pucks when we had the best goalie in the world. Not only did that severely wear them down over the course of a season, I think it took prime years away from certain guys and was a contributing factor to our defense getting very old, very quick.

Who do you have in mind? Josh Anderson isn't it for me.

I regularly am surprised by the fact that Staal is only 33. He plays like he's 37. Torts is the gift that keeps on giving. Many players bear his brand.
