DeAngelo is going to rack up the points. He's too good not too. With the way the Rangers can play with guys like DeAngelo and Fox on the back end, it allows them to get more possession time, create 5 man cycles, and break defenses down.

With the talent on the squad, and that improving with the build out, the point totals will be high for Tony D.

6 Years at $6.35M is a very team friendly deal that gives Tony another crack at a UFA contract that can make him into a $100M man. That's not too bad, and that deal is a steal for the Rangers. Front load it, NYC is a great place to have capital and invest. If Tony can turn himself into a savvy investor, or get hooked up with the right guys, then he's balling even more.

I don't have issues with his defense. I said it a long while ago, Tony's going to have a letter on his chest. Deserves it too. He's one of the young leaders on the team. Media friendly, and racks up the points where those media appearances are a lot better fan experiences. Especially if the team is winning.

When Tony was still unsigned, I posted about Dan Boyle being a comparison, and why Tony needed to sign and just play, show why he should have been paid, cause now there's a hell of a late fee.

You still have the playoffs, and if Tony raises his game, and ups the ante you just see the dollars go up.

Rangers already traded Skjei to make space, so the path is clear for Tony D to get paid.

For the umpteenth time, Jumbo Joe went for Marco Sturm, Wayne Primeau, and Brad Stuart. I know it's not apples to apples, but honestly, when has ANY player ever fetched the kinds of return posters on HF demand?

The closest is, of course, post-draft, pre-injury (and pre-salary-cap) Lindros and absolutely that offer is on par. Who in either the PHI or NYR package was close to ADA (given his current status and their then status) in terms of profile?

I doubt it happens this offseason, and wonder whether it ever happens at all, but if/when Eichel gets traded BUF should DREAM of a package that included ADA, Buch, Chytil, +++.

Yea but that was just a bad trade. We don’t use Hall for Larsson as comparable when guys ask to be traded either.

Man, I just posted TDA, Chytil, Butch and the picks for shits and giggles... makes me think its too much? lol

I think Tony is getting a long term deal, but 100 million dollar guy one day? That’s a lot to ask.

We’ve been waiting decades to have a player like ADA (after having a HOF offensive dman), I wouldn’t be so sure that Fox will just naturally “take that step.” That’s a script as old as time on HF NYR.

Remember Del Zotto? Man, he declined quick after that rookie season

Fox only had 11 points less than ADA and it was his rookie season and wasnt a fixture on the top pp unit, he isn't that far behind. Adding Eichel and Fox and removing DeAngelo to the pp would be a net positive and I have no doubt Fox would gain those 11 points.
The PP looked nowhere near as good with Fox running it instead of DeAngelo. Just on that point.

Cone on - don't do that. You made a claim, you must have some names in mind.
It's the in thing to do now. Say "trade him" and then not come up with what a suitor or a return profile looks like. Of course it is due to the fact that when you start to do that, you find that trading partners that make sense are not as easy to find and that screaming out "trade him!" may not make a lot of sense.

It is also pretty funny to see some of the packages that people are proposing. I remember that before the draft, there was a very large contingent that were against trading the pick no matter what. As I recall, I specifically asked what would they do if Buffalo was to offer Eichel in return for the 2OA pick. The response was an overwhelming "No way!".

His sophomore year sucked but his third year was good. He was up-and-down after that. Still, he's going to finish his career anywhere between 700 and 1000 games. He was still a worthwhile contributor even after he left.

The point about there being no guarantees with Fox is valid. However, you could say the same for DeAngelo, who always struck me as volatile, dating back to his junior days. I wouldn't expect him to fall off but it's also totally possible that he never replicates this season. He wouldn't be the first guy to have his career year at 24.

Well it's there's tons of taking the easy way out at times around here. "Trade him!" "Buy him out!" "Rookie X is ready to step in to the top 6"

I’m confident in saying Fox is significantly better than Skjei or Del Zotto

And ultimately I think Tony is moved but not cause they want to but for money

Edit: If Tony signs anything but a long term deal this summer I'd put the chances of him being moved in the next 12-18 months as 60/40

what does Del Zotto have to do with Adam Fox?
Absolutely nothing, nor should he. I think we got so hyped by Del Zotto's rookie season because we finally had a young offensive defenseman that could make a stretch pass, but a lot of those highs were coupled with some seriously boneheaded mistakes. Fox plays a much more composed game and is rarely caught making a bad play. He's not super flashy, but he's incredibly efficient.

Sky high expectations by this fanbase after a really good rookie year

I guess, but the 2 aren't remotely the same.

Fox probably just had the best season for any Ranger D, rookie or not, since the 04 lockout with 2013-14 McDonagh really being the only other one you could make a case for.

Fox from Dec 1st onwards was a monster player.

The idea, too, that we have to have three pairs that are L-R is nuts and makes zero sense. Keep DeAngelo, Fox, Trouba, and Lundkvist, unless of course, Buffalo wanted Lundkvist down the road for Eichel, but that's beside the point. People have said we need to create room for those four to play top-four minutes. Lundkvist hasn't even left Sweden yet and set foot on North American ice so how do we know he will be ready to be a top-four immediately? Again, DeAngelo is too dynamic to move unless he's bringing back a potential top pair left-handed shot, and even then I'd be very hesitant.
