Is that the guy Vegas paid $9M to play in the AHL? What went wrong there?

Ship explained it in an interview last year. He and his wife struggled to adjust and were given no support from the Golden Knights organization. At one point, he and his wife were driving around at night, looking for a pharmacy to get medication for their infant, who was struggling to breathe. Nobody in the org could help them, they had to approach a police officer who got an interpreter involved and that whole experience, the anxiety that came with it, led to him eventually going back to Russia.

According to capfriendly, Vegas owns Shipachyov‘s rights until he’s 35 (he’s 33 now)

Not sure why that would be the case

Because he "retired" from the NHL and the contract (SPC) wasn't terminated with mutual agreement. When he turns 35 years old, he will be be eligible for a different type of contract (35+)

There was a reason why the rights were retained. If it was mutual termination, the NHL rights would be void
Hmm, weird. Not how I remembered it. I guess they were worried about him getting claimed on waivers, and that complicating him paying back the bonus.

Is Nugent-Hopkins, 27 now, really that much of an upgrade over Strome? My point is the guy was linemates with McDavid most of the year if I'm not mistaken. Strome centered Panarin. Both will be looking for big money.

I think RNH is probably an upgrade at 2C to Strome. He's been a lot more consistent than Strome over his career and has a higher rate of production than Strome. That being said, replacing Strome with RNH would be threading a needle. Edmonton would move him to trim payroll, I don't think they would be into taking Strome back. We would flip Strome, and then RNH is a UFA after next season. Would he take a home-town to play with Panarin and behind Zibanejad? Even if so, he'd start off at more than Strome would cost, and likely for only a marginal increase in production. Unless he just lights it up with Panarin, its a pretty lateral move. There's likely a better fit out there.

You are mistaken. Early in the year when McDavid and Draisaitl were on the same line RNH centered the second line with a variety of bad players such as Archibald, Chiasson, Nygaard, Neal etc. Then when they split the two of them up he played wing with Draisaitl and Yamamoto.

Wow, Kravstov ranked above both KAndre and Nils. 1 is probably Igor, so Kravstov our highest ranked skater.

I don't think one disappointing season is enough for people to have him drop on the prospect ranking, but you could make a case for Lundkvist in 2nd place

Just read that it was Koivu who nixed a trade to NYI at the deadline, so I don’t know that he’d necessarily welcome a trade here or sign here.

Where did Koivu say that? I was under the impression at the deadline he said he didn’t want to move midseason and uproot everything. Not necessarily the same as leaving in the off-season.

Also worth noting that the move wasn't necessarily to cut ties with Koivu. It probably had more to do with Minnesota getting out of their commitment to Parise and their value of home-grown Keiffer Bellows. I'm sure NYI also wanted big guns for a playoff run (NYI a point out of wild card at the time), so Koivu would have looked good to them. I remember this one was up against the deadline, so maybe there just wasn't enough time to adjust for Koivu saying no.
