I don't think Engvall is being claimed, so it wouldn't be 3 million there. It would just be the bury limit.
You’re correct, wasn’t thinking one-way contract.
Looked up terms:
If the Islanders buy out Engvall's contract, they would be responsible for a $1 million cap hit annually through 2035.

Just wanted to make sure - probably over 90% would disagree with your take that a journeyman defenseman who'd often would not find a permanent spot in a line-up of multiple organizations - nevermind on a top pair - would be the piece to put with Fox and expect to be a SC finalist top pairing.
Not that I have an opinion about Gus specifically, but didn't we just watch this happen with Forsling? Or with Stralman here? Or Kempny in Washnighton when they won?

Honestly, it seems like this is actually something common to successful franchises more than exceptional.

Doesn't bother you that he's 32 yo or that examples that you list are single digit successes among hundreds of failed experiments?

Should the Rangers take a chance and claim Wahlstrom from the Islanders?
Who are you taking out to play him? You know it won't be a vet and playing him on the 4th line seems pointless. So, then it's Berard or Kakko, and I wouldn't scratch either one for a one-skill forward who hasn't shown he can employ that one skill at the NHL level.

Think the very first words of my post were "Not that I have an opinion about Gus specifically."

Those were just three off the top of my head. But I'm pretty sure Florida's entire blueline was from the trash heap. As was a good portion of their top-6. Vegas went to the final with a blueline full of spare parts in their first season. That was the same year Kempny got put on a cup-winning top pair. Tampa put Jan Rutta with Hedman. He didn't even make the NHL until he was 27. Pittsburgh won two cups with Justin Schultz playing key minutes. They got him for a 3rd, he was in the midst of a -22 season and Edmonton (!) couldn't even find a use for him anymore. I mean this is literally just me casually, quickly parsing like the last handful of cup finalists.

And as far as the hundreds of failed experiments for every handful of successes. I'm skeptical about that ratio that you're obviously just making up, and I'm also not sure I understand how that ratio is meaningfully different than any "experiment" as far as bringing in new players to a team. Like how many times have we seen what is an obvious, can't miss addition just absolutely faceplant?

Just on our own stupid blueline? Shattenkirk? TROUBA (jfk)???? Ironically, this one guy you're talking about actually worked out for us once.

Engvall is signed for 5 more years after this one at 3 mill per season.

Ya’ll are on crack if you think that’s even remotely a good idea.
Yeah please God no. Even the stubborn idiot Lou is trying to get rid of his own mistake this fast.
