Agreed. I’d say it was maybe 70% trying to get tuffer after the Wilson/Panarin incident and 30% turning the keys over to Kakko and Kravstov.
Plus choosing to extend Kreider - which was either or proposition given cap pressure.

Decline is a mother f***er.
Don't know why Laviolette switched to man on man. Small and slow Lindgren is more exposed over pretty much every other D we have.

Phone battery at 97%. The reverse of K'Miller, Matt Gilroy triumphant return to stabilize the defense.
The reverse of Miller would be short, white, slow, right-handed, and good at defense.

22 Million at the deadline....LOL.....Dolan and his Gazoo Sather will have a ball with that amount plus they have Perreault + the first rounders the next 2 years and Mancini/Miller to wave to the rest of the league have nots .

Hang on Ranger fans.....the ride is going to be a wild one !
They can use that money to be involved as a 3rd team retaining. We're low on assets for the next couple drafts, may as well get back what we can by using cap. 3rd and 4ths might not seem like much, but those picks are needed when we're lacking draft capital.

You're significantly oversimplifying what transpired leading to Buchnevich trade.

It did wind up to be a huge L for the organization though, no argument there.

He doesn't suck. He does not play up to your expectations as a 2OA pick
He started out well, but he fell back to being just a meh player on the ice not bringing a ton of value and that's nothing to do with 20A expectations. Yes, we can throw in the talk about how everybody has looked piss poor lately.

Not a single pick in the top half of the first round so it's difficult to bank on a star. Having Perreault fall to us was a lucky break and kudos to Drury for grabing him, luck or not. Otherwise there are a few depth options out there with at least a couple that should pan out.

BTW Let's say thank you to Gorton for his gift of getting Cuylle from the pick he got from LA for Andersson.
Vesey was once thought of as a big college star .....even won the prestigious Hobey Baker Award . So....Perreault could be the same as we all know how prospects get hyped . I doubt he ever plays a regular season game as a NYR . If he remains a Ranger....I hope he becomes a star .

We are in dire need of 2nds.

You also have to look at the drafts too and 2021 was kind of weak.

Drury has drafted 23 players and I'd say 11 of them are really solid picks and at least several of them should become serviceable NHL players---the way I'd rank them right now 1. Perreault 2. Mancini 2. Othmann 4. Emery 5. Sykora 6. Laba 7. Chmelar 8. Roobroeck 9. Fortescue 10. McConnell-Barker 11. Lamb......after which 12. Vaisanen (already signed) 13. Boilard 14. Korczak 15. Boyko 16. Aspinall 17. Kempf 18. Henricks 19. Gredig 20. Larsson are still too early to say or somewhat possibilities. To me the three that are done 21. Grubbe (playing in the Oilers farm system and not doing all that great) 22. Barbashev (unsigned and only 4 games in the ECHL this year) and 23. Karpa.

Is Mancini really #2? That doesn't sound like a deep prospect pool then.

don’t see any chance that Power would be an option. Anything Buffalo would want, the Rangers don’t want to trade.

You’re not getting Power when the guys going back are the likes of a Kreider, Miller, Kakko

Lindgren had the puck last night in the offensive zone with a clear shooting lane and instead skated it down to below the goal line and turned it over. Couldn't f***ing believe what I was watching

He is so awful with the puck on his stick it's a criminal offense and his defense has declined to barely NHL level. He needs to go for literally anything. I'll take past considerations at this point.
that play was incredible.

New York Rangers are not going to pay 22 million forward to help another club or clubs ....not a snowball chance in Hell . They will be swapping and trading/and whatever and by the end of the deadline day we will have some roster on paper and likely the barest farm in the NHL . I expect much old new blood and if done right they just might have a real shot at the Cup....it is not out of reality . There are no over the top clubs to beat . Yes.....we lose some kids and prospects and maybe a pick or two. Or we wait for 4 -5 more years ....if we get lucky . Dolan will be going for it . The biggest question will be what to do with Kreider ?

This is a bad comparison for so many reasons but I’ll start here:

Jimmy Vesey had 40 points in his freshman and sophomore year combined.

Perreault had 60 in his freshman year. After a year and a half he has 83, more than doubling Vesey’s output through 2 seasons.

Not even comparable.

He isn’t getting traded unless it’s for a legitimate star player with years left on his deal.

That's a scary proposition not knowing who the players they add would be.

Are there any realistic ways to fix the defense in season? Id like to see Vaakanainen healthy but like, we can't be expecting much. Even if Lindgren gets benched, we have no one else. Connor Mackey? Love his heart but cmon. Usually I have guys in mind but I am really at a loss.

I'm hoping Fox, KAM and Schneider just had an off game. I was really unimpressed with them in the last game. A few years ago our top 4-5 seemed so much better than they have in the last year or so.

they've had an 'off' season. The entire team has, save Cuylle and 4th liners.

I tend to put less onus on the younger kids in this situation.... but 99% have not been good enough and some, especially leaned upon vets, have just been AHL level.... if that.

It's hard to evaluate certain players and growth. It's why I wouldn't move them.... unless your name is Lindgren
