I mean there's a lot of gaping holes in the top six at this point.

I find it, uh, interesting that people are coming back to pick on Kakko while the whole team outside a guy shooting hot as hell basically looks like shit.

"1st" line looks like shit, our real 1st line is inconsistent and fighting it, but we gotta drill down and focus in on Kakko when he has a mediocre game or two on the 3rd line while Chytil pulls yet another "I'm coming back from injury but I can't actually do shit for 2 months until I'm back up to speed"
Yes?

We're being mean to Kakko because he sucks. I don't see the problem.

Everyone will have different option but for 'good' I'd have:
- His drafting has been pretty good
- Motte the 1st time
- Mikkola and Tarasenko was a good move
- both getting Goodrow and getting rid of Goodrow with no retention (even though apparently it has ruined the locker room somehow)
- moving on from Trouba with no retention
- Laf contract (and Chytil)
- Carrick is looking like a good move
- Vesey
- Trochek
Just curious, how many of his draft picks are nhl players currently, i really don't know, just wondering and I'm in a crappy service area

I disagree, he looked exactly the same in preseason when he wasn't on Panarins line as he did the year before. It was only when he joined that line he got some pep in his step. A lot of people were still calling him a bust in preseason.

Just for reference, here's Jeff gortons last draft with the Rangers.

Why does Schneider get zero hate. I can count the amount of times he’s looked good on 2 hands
Because he's fine, basically.

He can't defend at 5v5 worth a shit, which is an element the team needs for sure, but he moves the puck extremely well and he's a plus penalty killer.

He's making #4 money in a #4 role and he's better than most #4's.

he's a third liner doing "alright" while the top six is busy pouting or burning things to the ground

who f***in' cares about Kakko at this point. He's not untouchable but there's no point in trading him just to be rid of him. If he has value that can improve the team? Go for it, idgaf, but if not then f*** it he's cheap and he's fine for his role.

That and he’s 22
I think when he was drafted his ceiling was 2nd pairing defenseman. I don't think he has the tools of a #1 or #2. He has the physical traits though.

The good news is he never needs to be a #1 on this roster.

He definitely makes mistakes, but I think he gets less flack because we've wanted to see him in an expanded role for a while. He's got that shot now.

Idk I honestly think he’s horrific decision maker and puck mover behind the goal line

Only Mancini. That draft actually looks good though, with Laba, Sykora, and McConnell-Barker. The first pick was at 63. You're going to get 3 NHL players from that group, maybe even 4 if it all breaks right.

2023 has Perreault, Fortescue, and Roobroeck. Perreault might be a home run, Fortescue and Roobroeck have been very promising in their own right. The other two, Larsson and Henricks, too early to say with them. Probably nothing but you never know.

2024 looks like Emery and three "who knows?" mid/late picks.

2021 is the variable. That was Drury's first draft, but he had only been on the job for a few months and has gotten rid of a lot of the personnel who were around then. Do you consider it his draft? Or did he inherit the draft board? In any event, you have Othmann who IMO is probably on the team now if he didn't get hurt, and then Chmelar and Lamb are interesting. Maybe Vaisanen if you squint.

Yeah I agree with this. I like Kakko but I’m not delusional by any means; he’s currently a very replaceable player. If they move him for somebody useful I wouldn’t be upset.

Chytil is a much bigger problem for this team. He fills a much more important role, especially considering Zib’s collapse, and he’s on borrowed time. Nobody should be constructing a lineup with him in the top 6.

I for one am glad the Rangers didn’t pick any higher in 2018.

His clown ass convinced everyone that Kravtsov was the 2nd best forward and 3rd best player in that draft. If we picked #3 we would have gone with Kravtsov.

Not Brady Tkachuk, not Quinn Hughes, Vitali Kravtsov.

I don't have a huge problem with Mika (although he's had a terrible season), and it wouldn't be my preferred course of action by any stretch, but...
if there was actually a plan to re-tool/re-make the core, and so other trades were being made to bring back value, and useful FAs-to-be were being considered, then I could probably live with a Mika for Strome swap.
- we save $3.5m on the cap
- Strome's contract finishes 4 years earlier
- someone will take him at next season's TDL as a pending FA so you can get some middling asset(s) for him
- he works well enough with Panarin, which is where Mika is now anyway. So you get a 25 point downgrade (plus a PK downgrade), but you don't care because you are ripping shit up anyway
