You can think the team sucks but it's a special kind of pessimism thinking it's something above bad players and we're special in how we turn good players into bad.

Dude, picture Lavi with Drury spooning him from behind as they work the pottery wheel and turn out this:

1. Fox, NYR 2027 2nd
for
Pinto, Kleven, Grieg OTT 2029 1st + cap dump Harmonic
cap dif is 9.5 - approx a little under 7; OTT has 4.8 space so it covers

Kleven plays either side, big D, elc
pivot depth
structural cap relief

Sens get RD partner for Sanderson

2. Shesty 1.5 retained this season + extension, = 4.1+ cap hit here, KAM 3.8+ cap hit, + Grieg <1 cap hit, Smith 3.7cap hit, + and Rs 2025 1st unprotected
_________ total cap ballpark = 12.6
for
Byfield 6.2+ cap hit, + Jakub Dvorak, < 1 elc, Helenius <1 elc + LAK 2025 and 2027 1sts
_________ total cap ballpark = 8-ish, LA has extensive cap room for the 4+ dif

LA - big get is Shesty, NOW. Grieg is a former late 1st and a bit more developed at than fellow pivot Helenius, KAM more developed and ready now comp to Dvorak; Smith = short term useful F

Rs - Byfield pairs w/Kreider + best fit for RW, next season likely Gabe P
Dvorak another LD w/size, hopefully ready soon
Helenius is another huge F who can also pivot

--------------------
Do Zib at half to VAN just to get rid of him
Zib + Vesey + Harmonic + Carrick
for
Raty, Juulsen + acceptable cap dump if nec

----------------------
deal Lindy

=========================

Garand + Quick + Dom

Kreider - Byfield - Pinto
LaF - Tro - bread
Cuylle - Chytil/Brodz - KK
Eds - Raty/Helenius - Rempe

Kleven - Schneid
Jones - Mancini
Vaak - Juulsen
Dvorak

Why are we trading Fox for a 13 year old as the main piece?

Could we just, perhaps, take a measured approach and trade the guys who will either be gone this year or next or who are the ones needed to be upgraded upon before trading someone like Fox or Lafreniere?

If Drury just traded these guys in the next month:
Smith
Lindgren
Vesey

I would even take that as a move in the right direction. At least they are noticing that the team isn't going anywhere this season and are starting to recoup some assets.

The A$$ kicker is...the forwards can play D.

We have one of the best PK's in the league and its Kreider and Ziba on that PK. Yet, somehow their end boards/goal crease might as well be with the concession stands, 5v5.
There's a big difference in playing D half rink vs playing defense on the full rink. Beyond that, players don't look to get hammered in their own zone and then just ice the puck 5 on 5. On the PK, you have typically 1 guy to beat with a 2 on 1 after forcing a turnover. 5 on 5, after puck possession/loose pucks, they're flying the zone and going. Which is a problem with this team but defense on the pk can't be compared to overall game defense.

Staple had the knives out specifically for Laf after the Devils series saying he had off ice issues and if I’m remembering it right was the originator of the whole “Lafreniere needs to put away the golf clubs during the summer”thing.
He is still mad at the Rangers for denying his report that the Rangers were shopping or looking to trade Lafreniere. A few weeks ago after a Rangers loss, Staple wrote Lafreniere has not done much since signing the contract extension. The entire team has collapsed and he doesn't mention the others who are still complaining about Goodrow and Trouba. Only Lafreniere.

For the now, club is officially sitting on the outside of the Wild Card spot. Isles play today. Flyers play today. Pens play today. Isles are 1pt behind. Pens are 2pts behind. Rangers play Buffalo tomorrow. Sabres are worse then the Rangers. If the Ranger fail to win tomorrow does Laviolette finally go on the hot seat?

It’s really weird. I remember Staple having the reputation as one of the best beat writers in the league when he was exclusively covering the Isles but now I’m wondering if he acted like a jabroni then too.

Too bad the NYR organization can't draft/develop a player(s) who honor the franchise and become the face of the franchise... maybe because it doesn't have one?

There really isn't a player from the 3rd pairing to the fourth line to the first line that is a true leader, that embodies the identity of they NYR?

People laugh at mentioning Messier.. and believe me i get it... but you need that type(S) in your lineup.. throughout the line up.

Seems like the MO is always waiting for "X" player from another team to sign/get traded to NY to save them?

I mean, for better or worse, their last two starting goalies are who they’ve chosen to be the face of the franchise. I don’t think I agree with the approach, but that’s the way it is.

The idea of trading Fox isn’t dumb in and of itself. It’s only dumb because the only worthwhile targets would be unavailable, but if that weren’t the case I would trade him for MacAvoy ++ or a similar culture shifting move within that vein.

what exactly is culture shifting about trading him for a defenseman that's not only older, but worse at everything?
