Rico Fata and Emerson Etem are examples of guys who could skate really really fast. Neither of them became a good NHL hockey player. Michael Grabner another speed demon but a very average NHL player. Gretzky was a very good skater but he wasn't the fastest guy. Fox is a good skater....not the fastest guy. Just because you can fly doesn't make you a great player. Gabriel Perreault has great edges but isn't a speed demon either. If this is a debate going forward I wonder what some people are going to think of him. Again Othmann is not the fastest guy either. There are different elements that each player brings. You don't want just slower guys but there are some guys whose hockey IQ is just outstanding. Gretzky was one. Fox and Panarin have that and it looks to me like Perreault has it too.

Bad news.

We have a slow but skilled team.

Who lately cant string together 2 consecutive passes tape to tape.

And our roster isnt diverse enough with speed or carriers to keep teams from applying pressure at specific markers on the ice.

Basic ball/puck sports 101 is passing beats footwork every time. This club cant do either lately. Thats a big problem.

It's not one giant signing bonus. He'll get a large signing bonus every July 1st for the next 8 years and $1m in salary over the course of the season.
So...did Trouba get his signing bonus before he was traded ? I thought he had a 24 Million bonus...if he got it then what did he or does he cost the Ducks for the balance of this year ? They could do OK on him if they retain and does he still have NTC rights or are they gone .?

It’s very clear that it’s a hand eye thing with Mika.

Even when he was at his peak he played the same way. It’s just he was able to steal pucks, win board battles, and had a killer shot- but all of that was stick work. He never used his frame, never used burning speed, never battled in front of the net.

It’s that his whole game was built around having amazing hand eye, and it’s been bad for years now. He isn’t stealing pucks in the neutral zone, he’s fumbling easy passes, and he can’t strike a moving puck.
Get him a pair of Hansen glasses .

When you type Trouba on your iPhone, the suggestion Trouble comes up. Troub Trouble is one of the suggestions. I have heard Anaheim acquired Trouble because they intend to swap players at the deadline and they need Trouble's contract to maintain the salary cap floor. I have also heard Anaheim could retain 50% of Trouble's contract and flip him again. Heard on various podcasts.

Gustafsson's a non fighter. It's his first fight ever. That's not really impressive IMO on Frederic's part.
Frustrated ....it happens . Nice to see a guy not taking losing well . When was the last time we had a Ranger give a shit ? He will garner the B's a good pick in a return at the deadline and then likely heads back to Boston in the Summer . If we could afford him....I like him ....but we likely cannot .

This team plays selfish, selfish hockey. It's why our offense ranks so high. It's at the complete expense of our defensive game. Players aren't plastered to their man on the backcheck. They let opposing players gain separation. They're always waiting for someone else to force a turnover so they can fly the zone and move the puck back the other way. There's no accountability, either. Some of the worst offenders are our "core" guys. There's no strong voice in the room calling this shit what it is: cherry-picking and lack of defensive effort.

Our guys play passive as f*** on d, conserving energy until it's time to go the other way. I want them absolutely smothering the opposition, as the good teams of this league do to us. Instead, we get pinned for 30-60 seconds at a time and absolutely decimated. Sure, you blow an assignment occasionally when you're being aggressive, but that's what our $12M goalie is there for.

Sure, Trouba would try to "fire up the bench" by getting in some dumb fight, but he never publicly called this crap out for what it is. This core is rotten. This team needs a heart transplant.

The problem is no one has told this group of losers that they f***ing suck to their faces. All we have heard about in the media up until this season is how talented the rangers, how they are cup contenders, how fun they are to watch when they are playing at their best etc. meanwhile this team gets f***ing dummied every single playoff run at 5v5, they rely on the goaltenders to be out of this world and they still have not won a damn thing.

Booed off the ice in 2 of the last 3 games. Im sure that doesnt bother them at all though. Who cares about the people who pay their bloated salary.

I look forward to Aves breakdowns every night. Ex players like Hank, Vally, Boyle, Avery, Dugauy all tell it like it is on the Rangers. They are soft mental midgets who have rabbit ears for every social media criticism. The media outside of Larry wont call it out, and the national media defends these pampered players who have won nothing!

Maybe Brooks needs to tell these guys everyone hates you, you're the most unlikeable Rangers team since the likes of Quintal and Kamensky.

I seriously cannot believe this is over 2 terrible hockey players. You don't like how your boss runs business? Good, you can leave. Mika waive your NMC and have fun in Calgary. I hear they have mechanical horses out there.

Also, Brooks brought up how Mika doesn't handle the outside noise. If that's the case this is the exact situation where you lower his minutes, lower his high pressure situations until he finds it again.
You aren't wrong. This is the least Rangers hockey I've watched... since I became a fan nearly 30 years ago.

Laviolette should give Mika the Rempe ice time of 4 minutes a game and that should get Mika mad enough to waive his NMC. Drury should tell Laviolette to do this. Get this done
Or maybe now he doesn't have to shower after the game and go straight to his DJ gigs? JK.

Honestly I'm torn with giving guys like Berard and Cuylle more ice time to will this team's work ethic and stick those two with Mika and hope they open space for him.

He just needs to simplify his game and he's not going to be playmaking or passing his way out of this funk. He needs to go back to shoot first and attacking the net. When you can't make a simple rim around the boards why does he think he can backdoor a pass through 4 sticks?

The really annoying thing about this season is how wide open the league is and how the Rangers would probably have their easiest path to the finals in this window if they werent a bunch of sad sack moping losers.

Please blow up this core. Trade Lindgren. Trade Miller. Trade Kreider. Go to Mika and tell him we are done with you, and you can work with us, or get sent home and we'll figure it out in the summer. Panarin should go to. It didnt work out. Any further commitment to this core is a waste of everyone's time and money.

Drury paid Fox, Lafreniere & Igor. that's your core to build around. Cuylle, Schneider, Chytil, Kakko, Berard, Edstrom, Mancini, Jones. Are all young and strong potential support players. Othmann and Perrault on the horizon with top 6 potential. Fortescue/Emery a few years down the road. Sykora and Laba as potential bottom 6 help. The cupboard is far from bare.

I am willing to take it on the chin this season to retool the core and transition to the young players that have a much higher ceiling long term. We will be better in the long-run for it. Take a step back in order to take multiple steps forward.

Don’t disagree with any criticism of the team but re Avery: he was arrested for domestic battery and a judge granted his wife and child a physical restraining order against him, which is still in effect, so he should probably sit down when it comes to “calling out” anyone else’s mental constitution.

Are we taking Larry's word as gospel? I'm sure there's truth to it but it sure makes a better story than "they were upset day off and got over it".
I'm sure he's getting fed that directly from our Front Office. Larry has always had good sources within the organization.

So, if it's not reality, it's what our GM thinks at least. Make of that what you will.

I still like the idea of a Byfield for Miller swap. That's one that I could see benefitting both teams

Id prefer someone more proven tbh. I really have no interest in another project.

Now if Panarin gets moved, I can see something around Byfield for 1.5 years of Artemi for a Kings team that is stuck in the mud once playoffs roll around.

We're razor-thin organizationally at LD. Otherwise, I don't disagree.

That is on Drury’s and Gorton’s fault for having too many forwards, (not enough RW or Center depth) and not enough young dman. One reason that if Kakko is dealt it better be for a dman in the same age and draft range.
