I'm not at all concerned about losing Panarin or this team's overall skill level. He isn't an 11.6 mil player in the playoffs. I'd much rather have two 6 mil players who actually play to that level in the playoffs.

Will Cuylle doesn't have anywhere close to the skill level of Panarin, yet he has just as many EV points.

We don't need Panarin to have a good PP. The PP hasn't been all that good this year anyway, and it hasn't saved us in the playoffs.

Let's build a team that can actually compete at 5 on 5.

Eh - don't get too caught up in it. No need to sell Zegras short. I don't care that he can do a Michigan or the alley-oop thing.. that isn't why I like the kid. Simply put, he has a tremendous amount of talent. And you generally shouldn't bet against players like that.

For every star that's come into the league already playing at that level, there's another one that took several years to hit that mark. And funny enough Zegras kinda did, the kid notched two 60 point seasons right off the bat. Look at Sam Reinhart. That guy just hit 57 goals and +90 points last year. He wasnt at that level in his early 20s. Or Zibanejad or JT Miller... you could name a ton of players.

I don't understand for a website that was originally called Hockey's Future why people still have such a hard time trying to project a particular player down the line. Obviously you're not always going to be right, and not every player is going to be a star. But the sort of talent Zegras has, those guys usually become high level players. People here on our own boards said Lafreniere wouldn't fetch a mid round pick.

Let's be honest, not all but most Zegras hate comes in 2 categories. 1, they see the flashy stuff and they simply don't like it. 2, it's the charts and metrics folk that see the numbers for his injured prior season along with his early struggles this year and simply determine he's a bum. There's really not a lot of thought in it, they just say whatever the almighty chart tells them to at the moment.

Now if you want to argue that maybe you don't think he fits the team stylistically or something like that then that's one thing... but to pretend the kid sucks I have to disagree with

3. Those who see that he has a lot of talent but plays a fairly one dimensional game, is prone to sulking, and has his offensive stats padded by PP1 time that he would not likely be getting here.
I don’t dislike flash but flash doesn’t make a player any more effective. I don’t weigh it heavily. If I have a choice between two guys who score near the same, one is flashy and the other plays a higher level 200 foot defensive game, I’m picking the later every time.
Again though, if we can buy low on Zegras I’d be happy to give it a try. I don’t DISLIKE him. I dislike the idea of trading Kakko for him.

Trouba might be the most checked out and non-caring player right that I have ever seen, let alone from a captain. It is honestly incredible. The team tried to trade him in the summer and he just decided he is quiet quitting. The entire locker room of vets has followed suit. This is a sad and sorry excuse for a team right now. Just gut the vets with a fish hook and be done with it. Pathetic.

Spot on. Look no further than this when wondering what the issue with the locker room is. Gutless loser who would rather hawk his art than come into the season motivated. Makes me sick.

That doesn't make my point invalid.
I'm pointing out that a person isn't a Type A simply because they play hard.
Type A's are self starters, constantly chasing self improvement and never satisfied.

That does not fit JT Miller's career.

I will say as much as I'd be in favor of a JTM reunion, I could see a Alexei Kovalev type results after he came back. Players who leave NYC shed the microscope & can focus on just playing hockey. Bringing Miller back would place massive expectations on his shoulders & lead to him trying to do too much while the team continues to flounder. I only like this move if we are ridding ourselves of ALL the dead weight. Trouba, Lindgren, Mika, all gone.

I'm thinking you're just confused of what that term actually means. Miller is without question an Alpha male who drove himself to become a top 10-20 player in this league.

While he was here he had confidence & immaturity issues. You don't want him back here, that's your prerogative. You're entitled to that opinion, but this is a discussion that has you splitting hairs & delving into psychology issues that neither one of us is qualified to comment on.

I'm open to doing a firesale and just purging ourselves of this core. The only guys on the roster I wouldn't trade are Laf, Cuylle Edstrom, and Berard. Other than that, anyone and everyone can be had for the right price. And guys like Trouba, Lindgren, and Zibanejad can be had for ANY price.

But I don't trust Chris Drury with any trade. I don't trust him to walk my dog. Drury has gotten exceptionally lucky inheriting a built roster and the only thing he's done is consistently trade assets for pure rentals.
