He's scored plenty of goals off the rush. I just think that this year that lines mantra has been to work the puck and cycle. Because they are the only line that can.
yeah you're right. i just went back and watched all 22 of his goals from 22-23. poor Fil. he's so damn good.

As far as Kakko, my point stands - with players who really only create off the rush, he is not effective

leaking this actually a brilliant subtle way to ensure he's not traded. nobody would trade fair value for a 34yo guy who relies on physical tools that has known back issues.

it's like troubas "will refuse to report" in that it tanks his trade value, but it won't make him a pariah among fans. he even couches it in an assortment of flummeries about playing through distractions, it's just hockey, etc.
This wasnt lost on me either. Thought this immediately

Marchand is definitely on a decline and he's also in his rental season. Moving Kreider for him would be a bad idea. Chris is an older player but it's not clear to me that he's on a decline at all. He also has some term left.....is not a rental. So ideally if we're moving him we're getting younger. He's still a quality player. We should get quality back. .....and if the Rangers think they can retool this team on the fly for this year's playoffs they're going to want someone who can fit into their lineup. All that said my guess is he should bring back a pretty decent roster player + a very good prospect or draft pick. A team picking him up is looking at a top 6....maybe 1st line goal scoring winger on an affordable contract. That's an important pickup for any team in the league.

Marchand probably is a passenger who bangs in some offense for us but then we'd have to make a decision whether we're going to keep him which could mean 3/4 more years and if we don't then we've got nothing to show for moving Kreider. Either keeping Marchand or letting him go at season's end means we lose that deal.

No, it's called most teams need subtraction to make trades. If you're trading all those players, you're 99% likely to get a player back that's going to be in your lineup. You can argue if that player is better or not better when that happened, but you're probably not getting draft picks and prospects for everybody while taking on no additional salary.
If you are saying that is a contract limit, ok yeah
If you are saying there is a cap limit, ok yeah

But those do not usually or overridingly typically stop us from removing drek
we can either pay other side to take drek
or swap drek

but those are other factors that apply situation by situation basis
we do not HAVE TO take back a LD if we move Lindgren
setting aside mo mins for Jones/Mancini
we can promote Mackey, Robertson, Scanlin, Harpur
DO IT
ACCEPT THE FUGGIN GROWING PAINS
DO IT

As much as Lindgren is addition by subtraction, somebody would have to be coming back on the defense corps.

Mancini is not an NHL player right now. Neither is Lindgren but we would be defeating the purpose.
disagree w/first sentence see above
disagree on Mancini
will there be growing pains w/increased mins? likely yes
but imo he is ready

He's become older slower and frailer sadly.
this ^ in reference to Kreder? Ha!
dream on
he is still more beast factor than 90+% of this team not named Rempe

This reminds me of a movie called Other People's Money, with Danny Devito and Pennelope Ann Miller.

During a meeting with the shareholders of a company Devito is trying to take over, he says that, like it or not, the company is worth more dead than alive, and the shareholders want to make money. They end up voting for Devito's plan.

Of course, it has an implied happy ending, because Pennelope's character comes up with a way for the company to shift their production in a way that will make the company much more profitable, but the situation is analogous to the Kreider situation.

Kreider still has value to us, but, like it or not, he's probably worth more at this point as a trade chip. There are lots of teams that would be interested and be willing to pay a significant amount to acquire him. He has 2 years left on his contract after this one, which gives other teams even more value, without needing to commit to him long term.

The alternative is to keep Kreider until his contract is up, and then either re-sign him when he may have declined, or let him walk, neither of which will help us all that much in the future. We have plenty of wingers to replace him.

I'm not saying that we 100% must trade him, but the argument for doing so is pretty strong, depending on the return. This is what smart teams do. They trade away older players while they still have significant value, using those assets to make the team younger, cheaper and deeper, enabling them to remain competitive. Do we risk taking a step back? Absolutely. But we are at a bit of a crossroads anyway. Now is the time to be bold.
great movie

but what you overlooked here is other option on Kreider:
He remains ballpark productive to where he is, nominal decline if any due to age for 2-3 yrs, we do 1 yr at a time extensions w/him

that is best most productive here

His best season was that last gallant year. Where he put up 20-20 with less than 16 minutes of time. With Laf and chytil.
He does fine w rush guys, so long as they can actually hold the zone and forecheck.
If he is the F1, there’s a problem.
If he’s F2. He’s the solution.

you're agreeing with me. he doesn't play well with players who only create off the rush0

Metrics are overrated, all you need is Grits/60.

He was very, very specific with it too. Not just one part of his back, apparently everything, all year.

Kreider leaning into his finesse game, against both players and GMs.

So the room is not only coach killers, they scalp GMs too :sarcasm:
