Feelin' good on a Wednesday
Drury has done nothing up to this point to suggest to me he’s a great GM. Any idiot could see this core wasn’t going to get it done.
I and many many many others were told differently last season (before and after the loss to FL) & the yr before & the yr before.

"We came back to beat PItt & CAR... & went to the conf finals! We're a contender"

Never have been. We've been goaltending & luck.

"But President's Trophy!!!"

Yup. The shit that doesn't win The Cup

Wonder if there is a trade to be made with Florida? They've lost 6 out of 7. It's looking like they're coasting after winning the cup. Too much time on the beach and not enough time practicing. Did anyone watch the Amazon show? Matthew Tkachuk spends his time hanging out in his pool and driving his golf cart around. Verhaeghe signed his new long term deal and took that as a sign that he doesn't need to work anymore. Bob is back to playing like the player that got benched prior to the start of the playoffs two years ago.

Still can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

I think Drury probably deserves a chance at least. Building a contender from the remnants of The Letter was doomed during Gorton's time. I come back to a few things:

-They didn't prioritize speed and skill with those 2017-2020 or so picks, which we've gotten almost nothing out of, not counting automatics like Lafreniere.
-As soon as they put a few good pieces together they tried to accelerate the rebuild and chained a bunch of cap space to a B+ core.
-They never made an aggressive play at a 1C, which they kind of needed to. They just hitched the wagon to Zibanejad, and if you were going to accelerate the rebuild, he wasn't it.
-In general, they haven't prioritized centers at all. The pipeline is completely barren at that position. Kaapo Kakko is playing center tonight because the organization literally ran out of them.
-David Quinn was not a good hire and had no concept of making players better in the NHL. Nobody got better under him on either team he coached. He coaches a college game and was anathema to young players looking to develop past that point.
They made mistake after mistake when they were gifted Fox, a 1OA, a 2OA, and a bunch of other assets.

We can argue all day about guys like TDA and Kravtsov and Buch but they had opportunities along the way to monetize all these guys into nicer young pieces and instead they all withered on the vine or were squandered. They also dealt away far too many pieces trying to rent when the team clearly wasn’t good enough. And they made some pretty lousy picks at critical junctures (Andersson and Kravtsov themselves, instead of say, Necas and Dobson).

I hate to blame it all on the signing of Panarin but they really got the wrong idea trying to win with him immediately. They could have extended the rebuild a bit and could be sitting in a much better spot right now with a still 80-point star Panarin in hand.

Drury was dealt a shit hand when he got this job as hes had almost no cap space to operate from the second he took the job because his predecessor couldn't keep it in his pants long enough.

He hasn't done anything to really improve the team since he go the job though. It's been the same group for 3 runs and I think that for the most part, they did an admirable job last year until they ran into a team that was ultimately better than they were (and they could have beaten them had Dru had the nuts to lop locker room favorite RL off the roster and replace him with a competent body, but thats besides the point.)

He could have improved the roster this summer but chose to run it back. I don't know how you let him try to fix this when he already had the opportunity and decided against it. What did he think was going to happen? Guys who sucked to unfathomably bad levels last year weren't going to magically turn it around and pairings/lines that never worked weren't going to just start working. He knew what he had and he didn't have the guts to do anything differently. Anyone who wants to argue that he didn't have the space can miss me with that bull shit, #55 was an EASY move during the summer and should have been at the top of the list, thats 4.5 million right off the bat. The Trouba stuff is what it is, but they weren't (or shouldn't have been) mutually exclusive.

Outside of RL and Trouba he shouldn't do anything going forward though. Let the next guy take care of the heavy lifting.

About and hour ago on NHL NOW Weekes said that he's heard whispers regarding trading Miller too. Saw a list of Kreider, Trouba ,Meeka, Riley, Lindgren on the screen as potential moves.

Seems like EVERYBODY in the know, knows theirs something ugly going on with the Ranger core.
I mean @BBKers did quote a random, two week old post about Miller in one of his posts today saying that all this noise had legitimacy

So maybe Weekes is right lol

You’re crazy if you think firing Drury now is the right move. There is no way in hell I want the NMC boys to win this power struggle. Drury deserves a chance to retool as he is being proactive with the needed changes, and has 2 ECFs to fall back on.

The mix on defense is not right. They need to shuffle some bodies

1000% this. None of the shakeup changes matter unless it’s for a massive upgrade anywhere on defense

Not now.

I wouldn't be behind him moving any of the "core" guys outside of Trouba and Lindgren though. I think if they start there and replace them with competent bodies thats a pretty good f***ing start.

Any subsequent and more major moves shouldn't happen now IMO. They should happen in the summer with a new GM.

Lindgren needs to go, as does Trouba. Miller I can take or leave as part of major trade.

Luckily you look around the league and see what looks like no shortage of teams that would be open to their own shakeup trade. It’s ugly out there.

I will say - you dont just decide in a day to trade a guy like Kreider, get all the best offers immediately and move him right away. Either he's been shopped for some time already and its being released now because its on the verge of happening, or its just message sending(and there wont be anything done imminently).

Its this.

It's a message to him and everyone else.

Most of everyone else didn't give a f*** tonight.

There’s no fix. The group as a whole is done.

Panarin - - Lafreniere
- Trochek OR Chytil -
Cullye - - Kakko (maybe C?)
Edstrom - - Berard
- Fox
-
Jones - Schneider
Shesterkin
Quick

**with Perrault, maybe Sykora/Otthman available to join the club**

Is the least type of change it would take (not the exact players, but the amount of turnover). That’s 8 spots with 3/4 top-4 D and 3/6 top-6 F. That’s the kind of change this team needs.

We'll look back at a Miller trade as a guy that got away. He was good before Housley.
I disagree here. Housley isn't a great coach, but if anything, having a defensive coach like him for Miller should have helped him immensely, on paper.

Miller has done nothing but regress in the past two years. The issue is between the ears, not with the coaching he's getting.

Time to add Avery to the broadcast. Put him with Valiquette.
That'll be a no for me, dawg

Realistically, you do everything you can to get Zib and Trouba moved. Lindgren I’m sure you can giveaway if no one sees value in his current form. Miller can be part of a hockey trade, and I’m open to him staying because I think he’ll be a decent middle pairing guy eventually. Kreider should be moved because teams will pay for him. He doesn’t have to be if he’s the one guy they keep. Cannot keep both K and Z. Trochek can stay as a vet with a decent motor or go as well. Indifferent.

But if we at least move the 3 or 4 who need to be, then we should also retain 50% on Panarin and try to get a king’s ransom for him. He has a NTC but it’s only one more year after this and then he can go wherever he wants again. I don’t think he’d turn down many contending teams for 1.5 years and 2 cracks at a Cup when he can choose his own destination again shortly after, and teams would absolutely pay to add Panarin for 2 playoff runs at 5.8M.

And in that case, we should also move Shesterkin for a king’s ransom. The return on Panarin at 50% and Shesterkin could literally be half of a rebuild right there, especially when Laf, Kakko, Cullye, Perrault, Fox, Schneider are already in the system. Factor in some return for Kreider/Miller who have positive value. The haul from those moves could set a team up for a shorter than average turn around. Zibanejad, Trouba and Lindgren would be addition by subtraction at this point.

Full rebuild ASAP!!! Sure it will be sad to say goodbye to a Ranger legend but enough is enough. How long are we gonna ignore the issues. It's making this fanbase toxic. So with that being said, adios Sam, there will never be another like ya. Joe, you've had ample time to learn the new meta...fail. Mollie/Colin/VinMo, times were had. Deuces. Rangers twitter, the rest of us are going to the blue heaven or whatever, stay over there.

As for the play on the ice...it's a blip. It's not a personnel issue. How do you explain the personnel issue when it's the same personnel from last year. Is Toronto better with AM34 out of the lineup? You have to play the right away and the hockey gods will reward you. Get Kreider back in there and reunite PP1. Have them extend their PP shifts. Elite goaltending, elite special teams, play the right way. That is our formula. It's damn effective. When I was a high major DOBO, my HOF coach used to say, "the only difference between a team playing well and a team playing like poop is the date."

Turn the page. It's a new day.

Schoen/Daboll Drury/Lavi, fire them all. I'm looking forward to some moves and a shakeup. Don't know if I'm thrilled that Drury will be the one making the trades. I refuse to be sentimental about who is moved. Core is rotten. I doubt they do it, but I'd be curious about what teams would offer for Igor.

I’d start rolling this immediately:

Panarin - Trocheck - Lafreniere
Cuylle - Kakko - Smith
Edstrom - Chytil - Berard
Kreider - Carrick - Vesey
Bench: Zibanejad

Miller - Fox
Jones - Schneider
Ruhwedel - Mancini
Bench: Lindgren, Trouba

Shesterkin
Quick

Time to send a message.
