Maybe the rumblings this past offseason were a way to deflect attention from a particular destination team with Detroit as the decoy.
I would think Trouba can’t change his list now.

This opinion is probably not going to be liked but if the Rangers are going to "blow up" the core they should look to trade Shesh. Doing a reset with a $11+M goalie isn't going to work. See if you can get a serviceable 1B without a long term contract back in the deal and run that goalie with Quick.

You won't be able to deal Zib, no one is taking on that contract. Unless Trouba wife's residency is over in December, I don't see him reporting to a team he is dealt to even if not on his NTC list.

Moving Kreider is probably the most realistic in terms of his play and contract. Between him, Zib and Trouba he's been by far the better of the 3.

No way. By getting younger and more lean on the cap, it affords them more of a chance to pay Igor. Laf contract is a steal once he gets top PP time. Moving out Kreider/Trouba/Lindgren and replacing them with ELC guys gives the Rangers the ability to pay Igor and go long on Cuylle and Kakko who deserve role bumps in every situation as well. They are all young and experienced. They need Igor back there. He's one of them. The Kids + Igor is the path forward.

Which one?

Defenseman Ryan Lindgren is another who's widely believed to be available.

But again, even if Vince didn't mention him, that doesn't mean he is safe. You think those are the only three players Drury would consider trading?

Idk call me naive or stupid but I feel like simply replacing Lindgren and Trouba with solid NHL players that could transport the puck would do wonders and keep them as a legitimate contender. Miller - Fox has had good results and Jones - Schneider have proven capable. Easier said than done but just deleting Lindgren and Trouba alone drastically improves this team. If you have a capable defense you can cover the Mika line deficiencies with the Panarin and Chytil lines.

Nothing should be off the table but I don't think this requires a blow up of everything as much as it requires a removal of the bad players.

I think it's highly likely Kreider was mentioned as a shot across the bow to the vets but especially Zibs. However it's intriguing that he has the most movable contract of any of the (few) valuable vet pieces. Tonight's effort level will be telling.

I look to when covid hit. Rangers were playing well, had just signed Kreider long term, Igor had debuted and Panarin was well on his way to a Hart trophy season. Mika looked every part the 1C on the KZB line. I believe the team had every intention of adding that summer. They self rented Fast who was a key piece of Panarin's line. And then poof, the world shuts down. I still remember Buch's game tying goal in Colorado.
I was at that Colorado game. One of the most surreal feelings of my life sitting in a bar down the block after the game watching the league announce the shutdown. Wild times.

Josh Norris is supposedly available. He has 5 years left @ 7.95 mil. Zib has 5 years left at 8.5 mil and started his career with Ottawa. I wonder if he'd have interest in a return. Probably not, and probably not what Ottawa would be looking for, but you never know.
If you want to constantly worry about Center depth with him and Chytil on the team, he's the guy. Rather pay up for Batherson.

Most of us do. A handful of assclowns drove him away.
I think it happened while I was taking a break from the site too. Because I have no idea what happened. He was great. For the most part this place is pretty damn solid, even if you don't agree with someone. But there's a handful of jerkoffs on here that are just relentlessly miserable in every single post. Thankfully for the ignore button I dont have to see their garbage

i have a feeling that Edge didn't have any real scoops for years but he liked the attention. he would show up and make 25 of the same exact long winded posts that really didn't tell us anything while everyone here worshipped him.
The person you’re describing is Dagoon, who actually knew a bunch of players he did signings with, but wasn’t really an insider.

Edge was in the business. He called out trades before anyone (and not just for the Rangers). If you think he did what he did for attention, then you clearly didn’t know him very well, and that’s your loss because he was a really good dude.

It cannot be overstated how un-ranger like it is for them to have a good record and they still look to move core pieces. I will give that to Drury, nice job.

If Kreider is traded in this circumstance, fine, but it's a tragedy he'd outlive Trouba or Zibanejad. Trouba has been an epic career disappointment here. Zibanejad had two great years and one great playoffs and never came close again. Kreider is my adult life's Mr. Ranger, it would really suck for it to end this way, but you can't say he didn't bring it on himself.
I know hating on Mika is the flavor of the day but let us not start rewriting history just to fit a narrative.

Regular season:
586 games - 541 points

Playoffs:
58 games - 55 points

Mika is 150 points away from being in the top 5 all time for the Rangers. His PPG in the playoffs is only behind Leetch and Messier.

Its F’d up that Trouba’s contract details could possibly be why Kreider gets moved. Because if Trouba was gone and we had a more competent defender we 1) wouldn’t be talking about kreider because 2) the team would be in a better position right now. Specifically defensively as a whole. Trouba has been downright awful.

There's a few things I'm holding out hope for with Mika

- Ultimately I'd love for him to return to form, but I won't hold my breath
- If by some chance Mika's willing to waive, Hertl was traded on a very similar sort of contract. +8M a year.
30 years old at the time and a bunch of years still remaining. SJ only had to retain ~1M a year. Mika's been a mess but I'd argue he's the better player. Hertl returned a 1st rounder and a 1st round prospect.
- The last one, and way more speculative and maybe somewhere down the line.. the CBA is expiring shortly. Who knows maybe we'll see some compliance buyouts again. I wouldn't hang my hat on that but who knows

That will never happen again unless something catastrophic happens and the league is forced to lower the cap significantly. The cap is expected to go up a lot, either next year or the year after, depending on when they work out the new CBA.
