If Kreider gets moved, it will definitely be one of the franchise's lowest moments. But it's interesting that he is "at the top of the for-sale list." It indicates that the organization has been disillusioned with him for a while. And we don't know if the feeling is mutual, for whatever reasons, as Kreider just does not want to hustle and we know he can step it up at times. It's just a very strange-feeling situation. I think it's more disillusionment than Kreider's age-related regression.
I think it's a case of him being the most marketable of all the "potential candidates"

If this core cant get it done it's only a matter of time at this point. Organizations do this, it happens. A decade ago Tampa Bay transitioned from St Louis and Lecavalier to Stammer, Hedman and Kucherov. It took them years to figure it out. In that stretch they lost in the cup finals, lost in the ECF and then missed the playoffs the following year. It still took them a few years after that. Those earlier iterations, they transitioned from guys like Tyler Johnson and Drouin to Point, Gourde, Cirelli, etc.. so many good players have came and went over there through the years. McDonagh, Sergachev, JT Miller, Palat. You could go on. Hagel is a star there now. And I think one of the biggest takeaways there - many of the top players that have came through were not unattainable top of the draft picks. Stammer and Hedman, yes. Kucherov was a late 2nd rounder. Point was a 3rd rounder. Palat was an overager in the 7th round. They did a phenomenal job with UDFAs. A number of slick trades.

You're constantly working with the salary cap and identifying who's a core piece each year. So unless there's some major turnaround it looks like this group is starting to run its course. Trouba, Lindgren, Mika, Vinny and Kreider are all majorly struggling. Some are more movable than others. A new core will emerge.

“Ex-Ranger Chris Kreider scores 12 goals in playoffs to help Team XYZ win the Stanley Cup”

I never been more convinced of anything in my life. I can feel it in a deep, unlit part of my brain despite hoping otherwise.

Like a raspy whisper from an empty graveyard. My higher human functioning tells me there’s no such thing as ghosts while my base animal instinct says “RUN”

people here dont watch Brady Tkachuk enough to know that he takes a shitload of stupid penalties. but then again, reading this thread there's at least one person who admits that's what they want on the team.

So does his stanley cup champion brother and same Bennett. You need to crack a few eggs to make an omelet sometimes.

Erik Gustafsson floored somebody for running Igor in the playoffs, and people crucified him for it when the ref evened it up.

Lo and f***ing behold.

Could be. I was thinking Zibanejad would probably be right there at the top of the list too if it weren't for his NMC. But there had to be something brewing for a while behind closed doors. We see the culture issue. I'm sure management is not blind to it either. Otherwise, we don't go from 0 to 60 like this, skipping benchings and reduced minutes altogether. And it's Trouba and Kreider, the captain and the de facto captain of the group. But it's odd. I don't question Trouba's compete level. He threw his helmet and all. He cares, I genuinely believe that. His ability can't cash what he wants to do.

Kreider has a limited no-trade clause.....do you imagine Boston is one of the teams on his "do not trade to" list?
I have no idea. But he's from the area, I'm sure that has to be at least a bit appealing. How many players get the opportunity to go play for their hometown team? But he's a odd guy, maybe he doesn't want the distraction that comes with that.

Kreider has 136 goals in his last 261 games. Only 8 players have scored more goals since the start of the 2021-22 season. He's also 4th in the league in playoff goals over that span, with 24 in 43 games.

He'd have considerable value @ 6.5 mil and 1 year remaining.
For the record I didn’t mean it in a “this guy sucks and no one wants him”

Moreso, I have no idea what a return would even begin to look like that makes sense

Bowen Byram for 20?
I think the Sabres would get out of the Dylan Cozens business if they could.

They have like 15 forwards I don't think they'd do a straight D for F trade.

They need to monetize some of their kid wings because they have Benson, Quinn, and Rosen in their middle six and they'd all do better being sheltered.

what stupid penalties did they take against us in the ECF? i dont remember any. which makes sense because they had a grand total of 4 PIM combined in that series.

Bennett doesn't really get into the extracurriculars like he used to. He just hits people 12 seconds after they passed the puck and does it so often that they stop calling it. It is, at times, very useful on their forecheck.

Matthew is pretty straight-laced, actually. A hard-working player who knows what a hit is, for sure, but he's nothing like Brady at all, mostly for the good.

Matthew's career high in hits is 151. Brady will have 151 this season before New Year's Day. They're not really similar players.

I wouldn't do Zegras for just Adam Edstrom.

Sorry, but you guys are making me get the chart.

View attachment 935399

Zegras just sucks. Period. No qualifier.
The sample on this chart is totally F'd. He played 31 games mostly injured last year and everyone on the Ducks sucks this year.

The Ducks also played him at LW most of the past two seasons, and Zegras is much better at C than at LW.

I really liked Cozens. Has he fallen off that much? That contract is ugly but hes still only 23 and he gets back to that 60 point level it would be a steal.

Random thought, but was Cozens the guy that it was rumored the Rangers paid for his Draft Day suit? I randomly remember that for some reason.

Drury will want to get back a player (or two), which makes any deal more complicated. We'd have to be looking at a team that has a younger player who isn't yet at the level of Kreider, but who is a regular and can contribute.

I don't think we'd have any interest in picks or prospects, though they could be added to balance out the deal.

They did a lot of stuff that should have been called but the playoffs are called differently. Matthew Tkachuk has 105 pims in the last two playoffs.

He's just a guy who hit 31 goals in his last ELC year, got extended because thats how you get fuzzy headlines, and went back to being just a guy. He's... rangy? Like long in a good way. But he doesn't have a great NHL skill.

A little like a western canadian version of like Derick Brassard with more Good Ol' Canadian Boy qualities and less puck skills.
