The Rangers having 3 lines that can score and enough players to play in their top 9 is a real thing. Sure not everyone is going to get power play time. But it's something that all teams should strive to have. Cuylle doesn't make or necessarily make Kreider expendable.....he's just coming into his own as a really really good NHL player but I want three scoring lines in April and hopefully May and June. It makes a team much harder to defend against. It also kind of says to me that barring some major season ending injury to one of these guys we won't have to be looking for a top end forward at the deadline and so can save some of our other assets instead of trading them off for a rental. The Mika line needs to step it up a bit though and Panarin's line has been a little quiet lately too.

I think it would be a lot closer than you think given ottawa’s situation and their respective contracts

This was annoying to read. that aside, there are no dmen rentals the same quality as chychrun and hanifin unfortunately
They literally just need two NHL caliber D men to fill out the bottom 2 pairs. Play both equally and roll Fox-Miller for half the game

Kreider is not redundant, because he's the best re-direct man in the league and it's not close. It's the job for Lavy to frankly fix the PP around him.

He's worth the caphit, when we fix that PP. And he will be a part of it.

Kreider should retire a Ranger. He is a playoff player for a reason. Leads Rangers in playoff goal history. He at least knows how to score when it counts. His cap hit with the cap going up, should not be an issue. He does so much off the ice and helps the younger Rangers. I still dont get why he did not want the captaincy. Acts more of a captain than Trouba. I’d trade Kakko, Mika, Lindgren Trouba Miller before Kreider. Unless it is a legit overpay, which won’t happen, it won’t match what Kreider meant to the Rangers.

This. Kreider seems a bit checked out in a regular season game against Calgary and honestly that’s fine. He knows it’s a long season and what matters is the playoffs and he tends to step it up in big games.

Agreed and his skating is a threat although Rangers aren't a fast skating team which has to improve. Fox i wish was better at skating.

This is true. It's also true that Kreider and his line hasn't played that well in the playoffs at ES. This team has several issues at ES, one of which is that the team veterans simply are not playing well at ES in general. Why? Is it the system? Is it coaching? Is it line balance? Is it "saving themselves for the playoffs"? We know from years of failure in the playoffs that this team cannot kinda fraud their way to a cup win by winging it with a solid power play to cover weak fundamentals.

Its him. It always has been. He is completely streaky. He had a monster game last playoffs that clouds the fact he was absolute garbage in ECF.

Its what he does. He comes up huge at key times, which clouds the fact he comes up invisible at other key times.

Right now he is a 3rd lineer who is a special teams star. Unfortunately our coach will play him like he is gretzky during the playoffs instead of players who are actually good 5on5

That is a coaching problem more than a player problem. Every player has his strengths and weaknesses.

Given no penalties, my lineup would be:

Panarin-Trocheck-Laf 19 mins
Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko 17 mins
Kreider-Z-Smith 14 mins
Edstrom-Carrick-Vesey 10 mins

Miller-Fox 26 mins
Schneider-Trouba 17 mins
Jones-Mancini 17 mins

Trade Lindgren for whatever. I'd also keep an eye on Ottawa, Boston, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. Among others of course, but those teams are gonna do something and you better be around when they do cause ya might get to make them do something dumb. Real dumb.

So the Rangers are currently carrying 13 forwards and 8 defensemen?
