Do they really need more forwards though? Rooney and Blackwell have been playing fine I thought

Bennett is good but snagging two forwards from Calgary seems a bit overkill to me

We could be sending one back their way or dealing one in a separate trade to bolster the defense. Bitetto is a great story but he's not a guy who can spend the rest of the year getting into every game. Still think the team would like a vet LD they can actually rely on.

I don't see 4 or 5 bodies getting swapped here though. DeAngelo for Bennett, Ryan and picks to even out the money issues.

I'd keep an eye on pick swaps being discussed.

Rangers have an extra 3rd (Buffalo) and 4th (Ottawa) this year. No 2nd from the Staal trade.

Calgary has an extra 3rd (Edmonton).

Sens pick will be a high 4th. Sabres might be a high 3rd. I'd expect Edmonton to be mid/late

TDA + BUF 3rd + OTT 4th for Bennett + EDM 3rd?

@Edge any insights you have on Gauthier? Is he pretty much on the outs at this point?

Dosen’t seem like Quinn trusts him much and he dosen’t get a lot of playing time

It means stop adding guys like Monahan, Hanafin and Buch to the deal lol.

There are different names that have been tossed around in the past. Right now, I still don't see a desire to go that big.

Though one might argue the hesitation has been reversed a little. I don't think the Rangers are eager to move Buch right now for a number of reasons.

I don't have any insights at this time. I don't think they're necessarily married to him, but I don't know if he's a guy they've given up on. I think he's working through the same process as some of the other young forwards, albeit in a different role.

Okay let’s be clear when you speak with Gorts tonight. If he has the opportunity to add a 2C, he needs to do so.

And rightfully so. Still a lot of question marks on the right side. He should be extended long term, especially if he's a viable PK option.

Here’s some of my concern(just thinking out loud):

Id be totally fine with bottom-6 wingers of Digi, Blackwell, Bennett and Lemieux. Issue being, one of Kaako or Laf need to drop down AND that leaves Gauthier out. It’s not a deal breaker but it seems like there should be a follow up deal.

I'll add a caveat to this. This should happen unless a team like Edmonton gets stupid because they missed and is drafting top 10 again. If they pondered dealing #8 overall two years ago for him as has been suggested here...

You can worry about that later though. Get one step out of the way then move on to whatever else is on the agenda. Better to have too many good options than not enough.

No complaints with the first move. I’ve been on the Bennett wagon for a little while and he fills a niche for this team. Just voicing what we will see. It’s a good problem that guys like Digi, Blackwell and Rooney are playing well.
