Injuries happen. Chytil and Blackwell, for instance, are out now. Zibanejad is still suffering from long haul COVID fatigue. He really needs a couple weeks rest but can't because Chytil is out and the team will be down to bare bones down the middle if he sits. Johnny Brodzinski got a big league game. That shouldn't happen.

I don't see it.

I don't see the Rangers in play for a defenseman at this juncture. The emergence of Miller solved a lot of problems, I think. Forward depth is a huge weakness, and if the tea leaves are being read correctly, Bennett and Ryan are good depth. Ryan is UFA after this year and Bennett has team control for a couple of years after this one. Perfect player to play in the middle six that can PK and make the team harder to play against even if he's not lighting the lamp. Ryan PK's as well if I'm not mistaken, as well. Not unlike Blackwell in my limited viewings of him. A little buzzsaw that creates havoc on the forecheck with a nose for the net.

Yeah, it's a small sample size, but if Bitteto and Hajek continue to look competent, that bottom pairing is just fine with Smith subbing in if someone is banged up. Johnson should be demoted to the AHL.

I do think Gorton would like to add a veteran defenseman somewhere. Smith, Bitetto, Hajek all seems to be okay depth but I think they’d like to find an anchor on that 3rd pairing.

If the deal is Ryan + Bennett, I wonder if someone like LA would give up a guy like MacDermid, who the Rangers have been linked to in the past, for a guy like Gauthier.

The other guy who would probably be made available for the right piece on the backend would be Howden

This is true and I forgot about it. There is a definite timetable to consider this season re: trades.
