Is there any possibility to package DeAngelo, another current player and or prospect and go for something more meaningful? We desperately need another center in our top 6.
I hope when all is said and done that before Panarin starts declining in skills he gets to play with a legitimate center and not a stiff like Strome. Also our prize wings in the last 2 drafts would benefit from playing with a skilled guy in the middle.

So is Bennett a 3rd liner/grinder type? Or the usual fringe 4th liner at this point?

Looking at quanthockey, Bennett isn't one of the main faceoff-guys for Calgary this season. Overall a 50% kinda guy, still better than the guys on our squad probably.

I want to see a pick coming this way.
If Bennet could be Todd Harvey without the injury problems I consider that a win with nothing else coming back for Tony even if he cracks 50 points regularly.

We said this about Gaborik too, then we brought in Richards and it did nothing to his production.

IMO Panarin is gonna be Panarin regardless of whether he plays with Strome, Zibanejad or even Kevin Rooney

For as frustrating as Bennett is for failing to become the player some thought he would be, it's almost easy to forget he's younger than both ADA and Lemieux.
He is only a few months younger than lemieux but yeah that is true. Actually a great point. At 24 years old I certainly feel a bit more comfortable taking that gamble on him. Sorta similar to what we did with Strome honestly.

He's clutch in the playoffs. We're obviously not there yet but that is worth its weight in gold.

I'm good with a Scott Brosius on the team... at this point what else can we expect for ADA?

Not that this is something I’m pushing for... but ADA for Stepan and a pick makes some sense. Stepan is in the last year of his deal and is only making 2 million in real dollars. He can be a middle 6 center whose defensively responsible who PK’s and takes draws. His contract would be gone after this season. Ottawa is supposedly shopping him. He has familiarity here so you’d think it’d be an easy transition.

Still would be completely floored if DeAngelo brings better something better than a bottom pair dman. Especially Bennett.

IS Bufgylen available? Is he full retired and 400lbs?

dont really know the story on why he left

While the results haven't been there, the way the team is actually playing at this moment is better than at any other time under Quinn. Outside of some isolated periods, they've been on the better end of scoring chances and overall play for the majority of the season. Of course this is a results oriented league, but the progress from being reliant upon having exceptional goaltending to compete, to one where we are in games when the goaltending is subpar is a good step forward.

We've complained over many of years that the team was so reliant on Lundqvist standing on his head to win games. Giving up 40+ shots in multiple games. Being pinned in their own zone for numerous shifts in a row. I've seen less of that in these games this season so far. In fact, they are 3-4-2 in spite of the goaltending they have received in a lot of the games. I think we know of at least 3 games so far they've received far from average goaltending.

They are currently 21st in 5v5 SV%. That's something new for us as a whole. We're very used to getting saves when needed. This season might be the first time I've been overly concerned when an opposing team is in the zone for sustained periods of time, because they haven't been getting that save. I do think this will change. Shesterkin has the pedigree to make it so. Georgiev less so, but we've seen him singlehandedly keep them and win them games. The big thing is will they still continue to be around a 50/50 split on scoring chances and shots.
This team reminds me a lot of the Hurricanes team the year before they broke out.

I'm not sure I'd go that far, but they're much closer to being a team that can win games in spite of average goaltending than they used to be.

That should be the end goal for just about any team. Sure, you'd want a Vezina winner in nets, but the team being able to win with just about any good/above average goalie in nets is what you strive for.
