But that's a bunch of internet strangers on an obscure forum. How many would say that to a teammate IRL in a pickup game much less at the NHL level? Well, a handful of cry baby pricks would and you can tell who they are because they're on here defending this annoying distraction with everything they've got.

Why is Miles Woods still on the Devil's? Why is Brendan Smith still on the Rangers and countless other altercations between teammates?

DeAngelo was singled out and targeted using his past as an excuse.

To me we lost a good hockey player/ asset for nothing and no one cares because of his politics.

And the other part of the answer, based on Gorton’s comments is this;

It doesnt sound like the Rangers were aggressively trying to trade him when this latest incident happened. If things hold true that Gorton told Tony if one more incident happened he would be put on waivers and that he had to stick to his word, then this make sense. In that case, its not as if Gorton was shopping him for the last two weeks. If that is true, then the incident happened saturday night and he was put on waivers Sunday morning. That is a very short turnaround time to get 30 “No’s” throughout the league for a 25/26 year old RHD that is only making $4.8 million AAV. Then of course all the rumors started flying about him. The Rangers squashed all of those rumors. And again as you mentioned, teams dont have the cap space to take on $4.8 million right now. Teams could barely fit in guys like Haula, Hoffman, and Granlund. They are up against the cap ceiling.

So no I am not surprised to see what is transpiring with the interest around the league.

Well we know the Rangers have been talking to teams about him for a while. I would imagine that the Rangers picked up their efforts once they gave Tony the ultimatum. How/if they relayed that series of events to other teams they were already talking to remains to be seen. So if the Rangers went from trying to get a top-six center, or comparable LD for Tony at full price, to trying to get a decent middle-six center, vet defensemen, or reclamation project for Tony at 50% retention, that definitely changes the landscape quite a bit. I'm sure teams are talking to Gorton and JD about what Tony is really like and I'm sure there's been plenty of back-channel communication among players trying to get info for coaches of teams who might be talking trade with Gorton. Of course Brisson is likely calling in favors and trying to put on a good show as well.

I don't think Gorton is going to get fleeced here. I could see a Spooner/Strome redux type of deal coming into play if the Rangers are willing to do the leg work financially. Also the option to take on an okay player that lost his spot while picking up a prospect that another team has soured on. Something like Connolly and Borgstrom from Florida for example. Would prefer the former option but will settle for something with some potential in it.

Looking at Florida’s roster no real names jump out at me for a DeAngelo trade

maybe one of their bottom 6 forwards like Accari or Vatrano

Nuttivara would be a sweet pickup but they just got him not sure they’re looking to dump him already

Friedman said in his 31T that Connolly might be on the block. He seems like he could make up the money in the deal if the Rangers wanted him.

ADA needs to grow up. He has no one but himself to blame for how things have happened. No one cares because if he didn't blow up over this "incident", it would have just been the next thing. The dude couldn't handle an OT loss. Meanwhile, he sucks at his own job of defending yet is quick to cast stones at the goalie. It was going to happen regardless because mentally ADA is a child. No one gives a single shit about his politics at this point, they care about how he continues to conduct himself.

Yes, because he's the only conservative on the Rangers, I'm sure.

What altercations did Smith have with his teamates?

DeAngelo was not singled out. And NO ONE cared about his politics. He was not released for being a Trump supporter. He was released because his antics started to affect the locker room.

Welcome to the 2020's. It happens in all industries now. Soon draft stock will be determined not only by skill, but by amount of virtue signaling on social media.

Either way, poor asset management on the part of Gorton and poor leadership on the part of Quinn.

How about Alex Goligoski straight up for Tony? Golly had a good season last year, not so good in the playoffs. He's 35 and on the final year of his contract. Serviceable NHL defenseman...left hand shot. Completely new management and teammates in Arizona since Tony last passed through town.

Any expiring contract is pretty much fine and Gogo could do some mentoring and certainly strengthen the overall defense.

Agreed in principle, though I don't love this particular example. I liked Borgstrom's potential 3-4 years ago, but he's now 23, playing in Europe this year, and hasn't really shown what's needed to play in the NHL. Meanwhile, Connolly is an okay 28-y-o winger who's got an extra year on his deal beyond DeAngelo's. I feel like if I'm Gorts and that's my best offer, I'd rather just exercise the minuscule buyout on Tony in the offseason to get the cap space.

I love Bennett. I think that what he’s been in Calgary isn’t necessarily exactly what he’ll be if he moves. I’m not saying he’d “breakout” at this point. I’m just saying he could find a better fit or more defined role and clearly brings some good things. He’s played more wing than center, but he’s played enough center that he certainly can still be used as one. He’d be a GREAT fit for Panarin’s off wing.

Honestly, if Bennett is moved and we don’t grab him, I’ll be very disappointed. He should be an affordable player and not saying anything about position or production, he brings a feistiness and GO level that this team desperately, desperately needs.

Over the summer, with the tidbits Edge dropped (no names involved iirc), I'd have scoffed at Bennett for ADA. At this point, its a reasonable option if Calgary is still interested in ADA.

All other attributes aside, I don't have time to look up his FO%, but if its better than what we have i make the deal without a thought just for that alone.

At this point, I think his value is so low we are probably looking at a 7th.
No way any team gives up a roster player or middling draft pick for a guy that a team has publicly eviscerated.

I'm fine with Bennett and I'm not saying grit isn't a thing, but it gets romanticized, especially when the guy isn't on our team and he's standing on greener grass. The tangible incidents in which it makes a difference are scattered. On a game-to-game basis, Bennett isn't going to do a damn thing Lemieux doesn't do.

Pinning what happened to DeAngelo to Gorton and Quinn is blaming Enron on the mail delivery guys
Actually Gorton is beginning to show a pattern of poor asset management and Quinn is a shity leader. ADA's outbursts are beginning to fit the pattern.

With him about to be on his fourth team in a young career, and with his track record even before the NHL, I am shocked that there are people that refuse to believe ADA is a headache and most likely not worth the drama. This has nothing to do with political beliefs...

Over the last year plus start of this year, Mika is a 48.5, Howden is 48.2 and Strome is 47%.
Bennett is 51.1% over that span, but hasn’t played a lot of center. I certainly believe he can and even if he is effectively playing wing (whether with Strome or Chytil who is 38.4%) he can still step in for the draw.

He was the first guy that popped into my head from Florida. I don't love it by any stretch but I'm also not expecting to love whatever we get back. I can see Connolly as a guy the fans are meh on but the Rangers think fills a hole. Especially given the rotation of RW's we've been seeing so far. I'd hope for a better prospect but wouldn't be surprised at someone like Borgstrom.

money wise Connolly may but extra year

Stralman ?

If ADA weren’t such a sensitive snowflake he’d still be a wanted member of the New York Rangers.

Instead he’s a lunatic head case that 3/4 of the fan base can’t wait to kick out the door.

Imagine being a young, right handed, top scoring defenseman that your fans, teammates, and management don’t want? It’s basically unheard of. That’s how bad his personality apparently is.
