Tony's buyout being so cheap definitely complicates things. I don't see why Gorton would agree to take on a bad contract when the absolute worst that can happen is that Tony rots at home for the rest of the year until he's bought out for a pittance.
I understand that no one claimed him on waivers, but very few teams in the league have the cap space to just absorb his deal.
I personally think the list of suitors might be a little longer than some might expect. I also think the return could be a little better than most expect.
If I'm Gorton, I'm looking closely at pending RFAs, or an RFA/UFA with a year or two left on their deal in the $3M range. I'm sure there are names out there that fit.
We're not going to have to take back a bad contract IMO. We'll almost certainly get an inferior player to Tony, but I really don't expect scraps, either.
Based on the teams
@Edge threw out there, I could see:
ANA
Heinen
CGY
Bennett
FLA
Connolly
Duclair
Gudas
VGK
Reaves
Holden
I also wouldn't rule out a larger deal. A team like Vegas is so incredibly cap-strapped that they can't take even a penny more than they're sending out. It might make for some interesting moves, especially since we're one of the few teams in the league that actually has cap space to work with.
