ADA at 50% plus likely another asset like GOAT/Hajek/pick(s) should bring back something OK - it at least seems. Calgary, Ottawa, Florida, Vegas, Anaheim, Detroit (I doubt) have been mentioned as possible destinations. Could be more though. I would bet on Florida or VEgas. Might also involve a second deal for acquiring a cheaper VET D. Time will tell, soon enough.

He's only 24. So the buyout would be next to nothing if he couldn't rekindle his game here.

He got propped up by better wingers and earned himself a big pay day but he plays a quality game in both ends of the ice and can be a bit of a shit disturber when his confidence is going. That's a pretty decent fit on paper given what we have down the middle right now.

The buyout is cheap, but would be for a lot of years. Assuming we bought him out in 2022, we would be hit with 6 years of cap penalties.

Was looking at some bad contracts on those teams and had an awful thought of Lucic being involved

If we take back any “bad contract” with greater term than ADA it’s a mistake. Cant see Gorton doing that. Equal or less term if it’s a cap dump, similar or lesser dollars if it’s a “change of scenery”. Otherwise we just buy him out.

For example, I’d take 1 year of Backes at 4.5M. I would definitely not take Lucic or Neal who have 3 years at 5.25-5.75M. I’d do a DeHaan (2x4.5M) or Maatta (2x3.35M) to insulate the left side for the rest of this year and another. I’d do Bennett for ADA with retention. I’d consider White (prefer Bennett) but he’s got 5 or 6 years left at 4.75M and may never amount to more than a third liner.

Can someone explain why there are rumours of an ADA trade when he passed waivers? Why would a team trade for him after they passed on him for free? What am I missing?

very few teams can afford him at his contract without sending money back

If you were in the GDT during the game and post game absolutely.
But that's a bunch of internet strangers on an obscure forum. How many would say that to a teammate IRL in a pickup game much less at the NHL level? Well, a handful of cry baby pricks would and you can tell who they are because they're on here defending this annoying distraction with everything they've got.

I’m not expecting anything of value coming back in a deal for him straight up, if they are lucky enough to make one.

If a team is willing to take on Tony and all of his baggage for this year and next, even at 50%, anything of value that will be in the discussion coming back will likely be a salary dump and I don’t think they will have the room or the want to take that on.

It will probably be a very low pick or future considerations. If teams are “lining up” for his services and are willing to part with roster players, other than making the numbers work why wouldn’t they just claim him at 100% and not lose any assets?

Elliote Friedman described it as:

"They go off the ice, Georgiev is sitting, disappointed, like any competitive person, especially a goaltender would be after a game like that. DeAngelo walks by him and makes a sarcastic crack to him and Georgiev clocks him. They go at it and their team mates break it up."

Again in his 31 Thoughts article, he writes:

"DeAngelo delivered a sarcastic, cutting comment to Alexandar Georgiev in the aftermath of that defeat. The goalie clocked DeAngelo before the two were separated, and the decision to put him on waivers was made that night."
OK I suppose he's a legit source. So we've got conflicting levels of escalation form different legit reporters.
