I'm not really sold the Herman thing was that big of a factor. He's a fan blogger who posted something that was shot down, what, hours later by another blogger/reporter? And then the team itself directly pointed to it and said it was crap? I don't think the other teams around the league would put a ton of stock into something Herman said--he's not even taken seriously by most here.

If there's now interest in him I think it's because other teams have had an opportunity to discuss the situation with the Rangers and run their own intel and are satisfied that, at a reduced price, he is worth the risk. I don't think it had anything to do with the Herman garbage.
But the Herman stuff at least informed everyone what it wasn't. All of our imaginations ran wild. Now teams know it was an altercation, he has conservative views, he seems to challenge coaches. If your room is conservative, you have good leadership, and a strong coach you can manage it.

If it was racial or because of PR nightmares, teams balk. And I think the interest is giving confidence to others that it isn't radioactive.

Because he was drafted high lol. Dumb reason

I think this is why people think he holds tremendous value rather than why people want him.

We have a disgustingly homogenous top 9 that doesn't excel at anything. Adding a player who can work the walls and isn't afraid to go to the paint is a necessity.

If we can do better than Bennett, then fine. But I wouldn't scoff at the idea of adding a player like this to our group, especially one who is already putting together a pretty nice playoff resume, these guys matter.

We have Blackwell, PDG and Rooney making a difference and doing things our skill does not. We scoffed at those names but they serve a role/purpose for the team

Bennet still has room to grow and that playoff success is juicy. He's a great player for the locker room as well.

Who has reported "sarcastic"? I've read that he was getting on Georgiev, that they had words, etc.

Carpiniello reported it as "DeAngelo had been riding him in the tunnel about failing to make a save on the Sidney Crosby overtime goal and Georgiev snapped, apparently."

"Riding" him is more than a "sarcastic comment". I think those who are purposefully softening Tony's actions may also have an agenda.

Elliote Friedman described it as:

"They go off the ice, Georgiev is sitting, disappointed, like any competitive person, especially a goaltender would be after a game like that. DeAngelo walks by him and makes a sarcastic crack to him and Georgiev clocks him. They go at it and their team mates break it up."

Again in his 31 Thoughts article, he writes:

"DeAngelo delivered a sarcastic, cutting comment to Alexandar Georgiev in the aftermath of that defeat. The goalie clocked DeAngelo before the two were separated, and the decision to put him on waivers was made that night."

Over the summer, I thought an acquisition like Eichel was moving deck chairs on the Titanic because we still weren't good enough.

With the defense being a bit more presentable, I'd be more excited about a move like that.

I think every GM that cared would have been able to get a pretty damn clear picture of what it was or wasn't by Monday morning. There are very few secrets in the NHL. If a GM wanted to know what the scoop was, what the altercation was, what DeAngelo was really like in the room, he'd have about 30 different people on speed dial he could call to find out.

Adam Herman's "scoop" doesn't change any of that. I mean, Friedman is still going to write about it, the Rangers beat guys are going to cover it, lots of people are going to cover it even if Herman never says a word. What we know now, we would have known regardless. What we know now is still probably substantially less than what other GMs know now.

I just don't see it really affecting anything.

No one was picking up the entire contract, cap space or not. Waivers let everyone know DeAngelo was available. If someone had picked up the entire contract, JD and JG would have driven him there.

Now the question is who makes the best offer. Not unlike where the PLD situation got a few weeks ago...let me know your best offers. The sooner you make your best offer, the quicker he can be in your lineup. Operators are standing by!

One thing that can help here; Pat Brisson, Tony’s agent, is one of the best and most connected people in the business. His words carry a lot of weight. His vested interest is to find the best landing spot for his player and this could definitely help the return.

I’m interested in Colin White in Ottawa. He could use a change of scenery and Ottawa might be keeping to get rid of him because of his term. Although who knows. I wonder if he’s a possible target.

When I voluntarily engaged in more tony deangelo politics and character issues related conversations on HFBoards after the matter was already closed yesterday and immediately regret it

Too much risk. If the contract was a couple years shorter, maybe.

He's only 24. So the buyout would be next to nothing if he couldn't rekindle his game here.

He got propped up by better wingers and earned himself a big pay day but he plays a quality game in both ends of the ice and can be a bit of a shit disturber when his confidence is going. That's a pretty decent fit on paper given what we have down the middle right now.

Oh I thought we weren't talking politics and this was a hockey forum, my mistake then.

Well, he could be alluding either to culture or to politics. Either one could be true, and would make sense in terms of a “good fit” point

Prefer Bennett due to his grit and physical play. White is also soft and injure prone. Not a fan of his at all

Rather do Paquette for DeAngelo at this point

The comparison is about the personality of each city. Calgary is a cowboy town

Is this about TDA? If so it's absurd comparing him culturally to "Cowboy towns" just because he supports you know who. There are many different types of people that supported you know who.

If this isn't about TDA ignore the above and carry on.
