Again, it was more like 12. Look at the current numbers. Whether those teams wanted to eat up that much space or take him without sending something back the other way (or didn’t want to take him before gathering more info regarding what happened) is a different question.

Bennett if acquired should slot in next to Strome or a healthy Chytil on the wing.

He may be able to sub in for a guy to take a face off, but he's not really a center in this league. Physical winger who can chip in occasionally? Sure. Guy you want in a playoff series? 100%. I'm game with acquiring him for the sole reason that he adds more of what we need up front.

I'd love Bennett, but I don't think Flames do that deal.
Honestly, at this point, I'd even take Derek Ryan straight up. Might even retain a bit to make the cap fit.

That was a good blip and he was less modest than he was on Insider Trading about the reasons why teams are interested. I'm still not getting my hopes up about any sort of valuable return, but it sounds like there's enough genuine interest in ADA to get some sort of "hockey deal" done.

Basically you take our problem and we will take yours, but id be more interested in just buying him out in june if we end up with a dumb contract like Lucic or Loui Erickson

I think its a given the Rangers dont trade within the East unless its a team like Buffalo and they like the deal.

I think it ends up being a struggling team that had higher expectations in the West and Canadian divisions. Who those teams might be, i dont know.

Colin White is an interesting target although that contract is tough if he dosen’t get any better

Yeah but I think that's a good example of what some of us have been talking about. If they take back a player with 3, 4, or 5 years on their deal, they're going to feel like it's a guy who can turn into a contributor for them. I don't think Ottawa gets involved here unless they really put a ton of value on getting out from under that White contract. They're also a young team who might not have the right group to keep Tony in line.

Bennett is an overpaid 4th line wing who may want a raise in the offseason. Why do we want him?

If he’s a 4th line wing, then he won’t get a raise this off-season.

He provides an element of physical play while playing a normal 3rd line shift that the team lacks. We just saw how Brandon Taney affected the last two games for Pittsburgh.

I’ll keep preaching this but Calgary and Vegas make the most sense to me. Both have the ability to put together a veteran cap dump who would actually be useful for the Rangers and they can provide a shot in the arm in terms of a physical bottom-6 winger that the team still needs.

Ryan + Bennett

Holden + Reaves

I don't think Bennett is that unrealistic. I mean we know the Rangers and Flames have been circling each other for months. So if you're Treliving and a guy you've been sniffing around since June is suddenly 50% cheaper cap wise and costs you a 3rd line winger instead of a top-six center, that has to look like quite the opportunity. Especially on a team that really wants to win now.

Flames fans are attached to him because they invested a lot in him and he's a good team guy. If the rumors are true that he'd like a new opportunity, maybe this is just the stars aligning for the Rangers and Flames to finally make the big deal.

Again, I could be wrong but I don’t think Gorton will take on a contract like that for an anchor of a player. We’re already up against the cap so unless more $ goes out the door I don’t think we can take more than ADA’s $4.8M back.

My guess is Gorton tries targeting someone who maybe has a longer term but lower AAV or similar AAV and we retain enough on ADA to even it out while taking an extra year or two back.
