"In order to maintain a tolerant society, society must be intolerant of intolerance."

If a viewpoint is inherently intolerant of others, it should not be tolerated. That's the logic. You can't (and shouldn't) be 100% inclusive of everyone and everything.

Of course, the question becomes who decides what is tolerant and what is intolerant. Most things out there these days will prove intolerant to some faction or other. Is it mob rule? An elected official?

Something might be tolerant in one nation but intolerant somewhere else.

I’ll leave it there, but I think it’s a valid question.

Why not both???

Deangelo is a shithead and cost this team. He clearly never grew up.

Bad faith journalism is shitty and shares some of the culpability for the public’s increasing mistrust of media in general.
Yeah I would have given him the benefit of the doubt if he just took ribbing as something more sinister, but I'm kinda cheesed at Herman if it turns out he fabricated this.

For those of us who are trying to convince others that hockey has serious issues with abuse and that we can and should be better, Herman is doing exactly the kind of thing that people fight back on.

Last thing I’ll say on this tonight is I hope for the Rangers and more importantly K’Andre’s sake that Herman just dramatized things

The whole puck situation is odd and frankly the Wyhsynski tweets dosen’t clear much up for me lol

-It's been rumored since he's in junior hockey that he racially abuses other players.

-He was definitely suspended in juniors for homophobic abuse and the Venn diagram of homophobes and racists is a circle.

-There are deleted tweets of his father using the N-word and I'll just let you look that up because I'm not posting it here.

-His sister's deleted tweets surfaced today and she couldn't write a single tweet that didn't have a racial slur in it.

-His father is on video (and it's been posted multiple times today) saying that they use slurs "every day" where they're from.

I'm 29 years old. I've been watching the Rangers my entire life. I have had this discussion about one player. That player is Tony DeAngelo. All I read all day is about "oh cancel culture, and nobody gets an opinion, and they're coming for everyone" and yet, it's one player. And it's that player again, and again, and again. And you expect me to believe that it keeps coming up because everyone is just out to victimize this one player because he shares political views that 50% of the country holds?

And before you say "that's not evidence" I got news for you: this ain't court, and we ain't stupid.

If it walks like a duck, it's a f***ing duck. You wanna talk about "let's communicate" and "don't cancel people" and "listen to other people," then the least you can do to open the lines of communication is f***ing admit when it's happening.
I can't find any of that evidence besides the video of his dad.

but your logic that if you use a gay slur, the context being that the guy is not gay, make you a racist... is interesting. Kevin Hart used a gay slur a long time ago.. is he a racist?

I cannot find any of the tweets you're talking about. Didn't even know he had a sister.

Hilarious that whether or not Herman’s claim about a specific incident (from days ago) is one of the many stones in the path that eventually led the team to literally cut bait on a guy who should otherwise be a building block player is now somehow the story. So typical of how these conversations go.

Oh gee, the 6th of the 13 incidents (the last of which was indisputably a physical alteration) was mischaracterized/mistaken! Tony’s off the hook now! Don’t you all who’ve been talking badly about him now feel stupid?

C’mon...

Like I said earlier, all you have to do is walk it back. We've all said bad things.

You choose to double down.

Lmao this post is shit.

as a black man when I see this kind of shit I just shake my head and pour myself a drink.

For sure. Didn't mean that quote as a "mic drop" or anything. It's just a paradox to help explain why being inclusive doesn't actually have to mean including everyone/everything.

I don't think anyone said he is off the hook (maybe they did and I have them on ignore already, which should tell you enough)

But it does ease some concern about the Rangers mishandling a racism situation

Deangelo is out and damned, rightfully so. The dude f***ed it.

This chick has got me in stitches watching this 8 times through!

what am I walking back?

you posted a bunch of mental gymnastics to say ADA is probably racist. I saw none of your evidence besides what he did in juniors. So, I'm not the one that needs to walk back anything

I like how people are more outraged about Puckgate being apparent 'fake news' than Miller's camp not denying there was mistreatment by DeAngelo.
Indeed.

(Also, not for nothing, but if people really do want to litigate the whole puck thing, a) you’ll note that the agent’s statement is about where the puck is now and makes no mention of the events that night, and b) if it did happen and I were the 21-y-o, rookie minority in a 95% white sport 8 games into my pro career, I’d certainly want my agent to deny the heck out of the story, regardless.

Again, minor point. I’m not necessarily inclined to believe Herman, and frankly the veracity of a single incident that was only one of a string that culminated in something far worse doesn’t really matter. But Wysh’s tweet doesn’t conclusively cinch the matter, IMO.)
