Yeah Avery was less skilled and even more obnoxious and he outlasted my expectations.

Hopefully ADA doesn’t rip us a new one when he plays against us like Avery did to Dallas

Avery was extremely skilled and underrated in pretty much every facet of the game. He also has zero off ice issues (aside from a pg13 comment about an ex-gf). Kept his crap on the ice. That’s how it should be done.

DeAngelo will be back in the NHL soon. Perhaps with the Rangers, perhaps elsewhere. Talent always wins. There are people in the league who have done much worse and hang around because they have talent. Want an example? Mike Riberio; 17 NHL seasons.

And be sure to vet the place you get your rumors from.
I generally agree, although I think the breadth and depth of DeAngelo's transgressions will make a big difference. If it is strictly being insensitive regarding political things and then starting shit with a teammate, no doubt he'll be back. If it ends up there's something worse there--something racial, for instance (not alleging there is, just hypothetically)--it will be a tougher road back given the shifting attitude towards that type of thing.

As far as the rumor vetting, I totally agree. Though it's also worth mentioning that the altercation broke on Twitter last night through one dude posting an anonymous text exchange and another dude posting about what his cameraman dad saw.

In any event, this move has got to but a bit of a damper on the variety of trade proposals we’ve been hypothesizing with both ADA and Strome going the other way for salary purposes.

I hardly think Buffalo is going to be amenable to retaining salary in an Eichel trade

Haha...he better learn how to speak Russian...he will clear waivers, nobody is bringing that into their dressingroom.

Like I said, I understand being skeptical of Herman and waiting for it to play out, but K'Andre Miller, Tony DeAngelo, and Jesus could all say it happed on tape and in writing and some people still wouldn't believe it. So there's that.

I bet it will be less people than if “K'Andre Miller, Tony DeAngelo, and Jesus could all say it” IT DIDN’T happed and some people still would believe it happened.

So there’s that.

"You can say it's a lack of preparation, but that's BS; it's a lack of competitiveness, we do not play hard enough. I don't have the explanation for it. I don't know if it's us not holding each other accountable, or what, but it's a total lack of respect for our fans and the organization. It's a joke." -- Sean Avery

I honestly hope Herman promulgating this type of thing is what ends his career. He makes Brooks look like Edward R. Murrow.
I was thinking and hoping for the exact same. Such a hack.

Yea I am a New York Ranger, let me go spill some behind the scenes info with Adam the Hack Herman of the prestigious Blueshirt Banter...

Certain people in this thread are trying to call-out rumors of DeAngelo’s indiscretions as bunk; they seem oddly familiar to those who had previously claimed his “supposed” rifts within the locker-room were nonsense. Now TDA is certifiable poison to the team, and still the band plays on here...

Yes from 2010 through today the Rangers have been a team that doesn’t play hard.

I went to Rutgers - yes like most colleges the views espoused by the teaching faculty were mostly liberal; however I had my share of conservative leaning profs as well (as a political science major, imagine that!)

One thing that should be known about the school - and I’m sure others are like it - the first class we all took that was required to graduate was called Expository Writing, the basic premise being you are to question the source of what you are reading, and then take a position on either side of the argument. Rutgers students at the time were groomed to doubt what was being sold to them. If they paid attention, which is a whole different topic, haha.
I got a B+ (I think) on my first paper in that class and proceeded nearly fail because my professor was grading on continuous improvement. Message was - sand bag the first assignment and then cruise. Wish I had known that ahead of time.

I’d say they’ve been a team that has historically had questions about compete level, flat starts and a “country club” environment, even during the years they had deep playoff runs and were very competitive. There has long been a thing with NYR players not willing to pay the extra price in the corner or battle for pucks. I’m not saying they’ve never played hard or had their stretches, but there have been questions regarding overall compete level fairly consistently for a long time.

My gut feeling is Sam Bennett is a Ranger within the next 2 weeks. When is trade deadline again? It wont involve DeAngelo but maybe something like Gauthier and Hajek and 2ed for Bennett and maybe someone like Dube

The black and blue Rangers that made up about half of the last decade would disagree.

Dube is very well liked in Calgary’s front office just based on a recent offseason interview the GM gave. He plays well. They may not trade him at all, let alone in a package with Bennett for a kid who has been scratched 3 games in a row and a defenseman who recently couldnt hold his own in the Czech league..

I think that’s revisionist. If we go back and find a GDT or two from those years, I’m sure we’ll find complaints about effort and compete and coming out flat. It’s been a long time thing. Yes, we were a more grinding style of hockey and made our name blocking shots and hustling, but we were never immune to laziness and the question of a “country club” atmosphere was something that was first brought up during the Cally, Dubi, Girardi days.

I think there’s a big difference between the organization treating its players in a first class manner and having a country club atmosphere.

I also wouldn’t use the GDTs as evidence of anything. Fans of every team in the league other than the one that wins the cup probably think their team doesn’t play hard enough.

Many are acting as if it did, and take a look at reddit/twitter. They are 100x worse than HF. There are people who genuinely wish death upon the dude, these people are not stable and are beyond reason.

He doesn’t think that what’s going on there is inappropriate or a just not a big deal.
