And I agree. We cannot match WPG sending Laine there way. We just dont have that as a piece we would be willing to give up. To offset that type of value, you would have to build around DeAngelo with a grade A prospect and a 1st. And likely another piece.
 
I have a feeling Gorton is still in on PLD. If Winnipeg really offered Laine in a package I think Columbus would’ve done the deal already. No other teams in the mix have someone like Laine to offer and Columbus would be dumb not to do this deal, even if it was just Dubois for Laine straight up.

Laine allows Columbus to stay competitive and is a proven NHL player while futures may or may not amount to anything. Gorton could try to offer some combination of current players and futures but I think getting someone like PLD could make the Rangers a playoff team this season. As long as Lafreniere, Kakko, and Miller remain untouchable. Not very often does a 22 year old #1 Center become available.

I read more posts after this and Seattle exposure might be a concern with including ADA in this package. If we’re taking him out and replacing with a D prospect instead, we don’t have a good match at forward - as much as we like Buchnevich he would not have Laine’s name appeal and I’ve always been against including Chytil and it looks like more folks starting to get similar reservations too.

The Rangers could beat that but at what cost? These are some comparables for the Rangers:

Drouin = Buchnevich
Kotkaniemi = Chytil
1st Rounder

If that is really Montreal’s offer to counter the rumored Winnipeg offer of Laine and Roslovic then Columbus would be dumb not to take the Jets offer. Which leads me to believe that Laine is really not on the table and was leaked by Columbus to start a bidding war.

Chytil is showing now that he could be that #2C but if he has to be included in a deal for Dubois then so be it. Dubois’ ceiling is higher then Chytil’s and they are roughly the same age.

The other factor with Buch is he seems to be well liked by the coaching staff and his teammates. I mean obviously chemistry doesnt matter right now since they have lost 3 of the first 4 but I think its still a small factor there. Although Kreider and Zib have dealt with trades before.

I think the additional pieces the Rangers could add is what would could even the value of a Laine.

Or maybe WPG turns around and trades PLD to us..

I do not feel Drouin equals Buchnevich. A slight tier below imo. Drouin’s development has been so hot and cold. Buch’s trajectory has been much more consistent.

I wouldn’t do that. Chytil is tbd right now and PLD is not some elite piece - he’s a 60 point center who is willing to pout and coast if he doesn’t instantly get a trade for reasons he won’t share
 
All depends on how Kotkaniemi is valued. He is a point in time at which his value could be astronomical in 2 years or on par with Drouin/Buch. It’s not an easy league to play in for kids. Many fail to take that last step. I like Kotkaniemi, at the point in time i released my ranking for that draft I had him higher than anyone else IIRC. But he hasn’t set the world on fire and there are no guarantees.

If CBJ are high on him we should be out of that bidding. If not, I wouldn’t rule it out, but still think it’s hard.

Also, Bergevin's slimyness has now resulted in Sebastian Aho signing for a reasonable rate in Carolina and PLD being traded to Winnipeg.

Dudes a catalyst for other teams getting things done.
 
Columbus is probably going to have issues with Laine soon enough but good on them for getting a comparable player back
