It was Jack Johnson who took the penalty that had little to do with the play that gave the Sabres the power play at 11:38 of the first on which Dylan Cozens negated Kreider’s earlier score. The Rangers have allowed six power-play goals. Johnson has been on the ice for three of them and in the box for two of them. Libor Hajek, perhaps on Thursday.
Johnson has to sit, right? That's the kind of stuff they have to get away from. A coach that was serious about discipline and consistency should address his anchor hurting the team.

I look forward to the returns for *checks notes* Jack Johnson, Brendan Smith and Phil Di Giuseppe
good luck selling Kreider, Strome, ADA and that rotation of no-names filling out the roster.

. . . but if we sell all of the above we can land Eichel/Barkov
That’s why they get paid the big bucks. Find a way to get the cap off the books. Strome and ADA. I’m not delusional to think the return will be good, but if they can shed the dollars that will be the real value.

You (not specifically you necessarily) know how you are on here. Saying Johnson signing wasn’t that bad because it was a one year deal and not that much money. Guess what. He’s worse than Marc Staal and is actively killing them every night. Was always a terrible, indefensible signing and was never a need to try to justify it. Unless the goal was to tank this season then the lesson is you don’t need to have a big cap hit to be a terrible signing.

I hear ya, but I'm not going have this young team suffer through a Gallant because Quinn failed
Why are they going to suffer? Who do you want to coddle them? Wasn’t Quinn supposed to be the good coach with youth?

There are so many levels between coddling and Gallant.

We should look for the happy medium and not either end of the spectrum.

The world is a big grey area, its not black/white

I mean we can simplify this - you can get a Jack Adams caliber coach right now, or you can have the mystery box.

I'll take the mystery box.

Expecting different results from what we know Gallant to be is foolish and asking for trouble in the very near term.

if Laf (and Kakko to a lesser extent) were at least producing, this would be a lot easier to stomach. Missing the playoffs isn't the end of the world, its a bullshit fllukey shortened season with brutally unbalanced divisions. Its that a team that was so high flying and fun to watch last year looks like soggy dogshit and our highest draft pick ever is doing absolutely nothing thats got me all agitated. Plus the whole Jack Johnson affair.
Patience.

I don’t agree but that’s fine.

let’s take the youth development coach who doesn’t coach youth well and can’t set up an NHL team.

Lmao Vegas fired Gallant after 2 seasons.

2.5. Colorado fired Q after 3, his next gig turned out alright.

tbh the Vegas stint gives me some pause but not a whole lot. I’d like to know exactly what happened there because I don’t think it was entirely performance related.

If Montgomery has his shit together, id give him a go.

Is he not?

Kakko looks light years better, ditto for Howden, we talk about how smooth the transition for Fox and Miller to the NHL has been.

We can point to flaws with Quinn, but I don’t think youth has been one of them.

Gallant is a players coach. And that works well for a year or two before things start breaking down. What he’s shown thus far is that players tend to start tuning him out pretty quickly and the ROI diminishes from there.

Gallant at this point would only add another transition piece to the journey. He’s not the answer.

It doesn’t matter who the coach is, within six months the honeymoon is over with the board.

It’s always been that way, even though the names change.
Torts and AV were much longer. The majority had no problem with them for years until the team stop responding to them. Both were great coaches that brought us pretty damn close to the cup. Aside from those two you have the deadwood in Low, Renney, Sather and Quinn.

Oh, that’s not what I remember on here. At all.

In fact, it’s adherence to the timeline was quite a fun topic on here. With similar rebuttals claiming past “ dead wood” had longer timelines than they did as well.
