I'm so tired of the DeAngelo and Twitter saga. Back to finding him a partner...I'm going to make my last post of the day and the last post before my BDay about Hajek and Bitteto.

So even more disturbing than Quinn's obsession with Johnson and making us miss Smith, is the deal with Hajek and Bitteto.

The former was the centerpiece of a huge trade and is still young enough to develop. By not playing him you're lowering whatever value he has left and not helping him develop. Plus can he really be worse than Johnson?

The later you need to get in three games for expansion draft requirements and what I remember of him in Winnipeg was he was fine. Not good but not terrible, just kind of there as a third pair guy which is what Tony D needs now. Plus once again, can he really be worse than Johnson?

As for posting in general I'm definitely going to be more of an observer of this board at least for the short term. I'll still chime in from time to time probably once every 2-3 weeks for an hour or so but there's a combination of work not easing up like it was supposed to ("sigh" I won't complain that much given how good I have it compared to a lot of people during covid...just a little frustrating when I have other stuff to do on weekends), my car is starting to go so I need to begin the research to buy a new one which is a 4-6 month process with how long I've been out of the game, and then the other things...

I wasn't "hurt" by responses to the rant I went on with Larry's article on Tony D believe me I didn't lose sleep over it just more so I was a little mocked and it added to the overall negative vibe I'm getting from here lately (I'll bring it back for my final point). As I close out my 30s I have to allocate my energy a little better and fighting every point I make on a hockey message boards with people 10-20 years my junior who don't see the world the same way or have the frame of reference I do is taxing ("you only have so many F^#@s to give in one day, use them wisely").

Lastly, in a lot of ways it's the best time and the worst time to be a Rangers fan. The best because of the talent, the worst because clearly there is a coach who is in over his head and is doing a terrible job. It's causing a lot of negativity here. I think the bottom line is to view the next four months as an experiment to see who can develop in spite of this doofus and trying to add many pieces for a playoff run isn't the answer because clearly this guy needs to go and they need to add some vets to mentor a very young team.

I would not be surprised if the Rangers pick top 5 or end up with Power or one of the stud Ds which will further cause the need to get Tony D and some of the B-tier LHD prospects out of here for sandpaper upgrades.
Happy birthday!

Yeah it just kind of reinforces the fact that I really really would have preferred the one year arbitration award for Strome.

Then we could have moved him at the deadline for peanuts as a worst case scenario or just kept him as a bottom 6 player for the duration of the season.

As it stands that second year probably means we'd have to retain salary if we wanted to move him out for even a 5th round pick.

Ah well. Worst case scenario he can be an extremely overpaid 3rd line next year who occasionally cycles in due to injuries.

Of course the whole thing is moot unless

A) Panarin and Zibanejad team up (Hurts our depth)
B) Chytil shows he can play with Panarin and Kakko instead of PDG and Kakko (IMO the long term solution)
c) Howden steps up and playes with Panarin (I like his play so far but kid still screams 3C ceiling to me)

Strome has never been in the Rangers long term plans (even though some posters were expressing their “concerns” that it would be a case). I just can’t say after 4 games that this is it and Strome will be a pumpkin the whole season and there will be nothing he (or Panarin / Buchnevich) could do to change it. Still, folks forget that Strome’s assent to the top-6 didn’t just happen - when he came over he started out by getting limited minutes as a forth line winger and doing a good enough job to be promoted to a third / second line with Namestnikov and Fast, again being pretty effective.

Really? I don’t recall seeing this.
I vaguely remember he asked for a trade because he wasn't getting ice time on the rangers. I think it was reported as a behind the scenes thing and wasn't an official public request. But I am trying to look it up and can't find it, so maybe this is a figment of my imagination.

I think they were overjoyed that he even had a pulse considering it was a return on Spooner

This just in- Strome is trying too hard, he thinks.

Right out of the How to Interview book, when a potential employer ask you to describe your shortcomings you tell them that I tend to work too hard and sometimes can be a bit of a perfectionist. A nice job Ryan, however they’ve already outsourced your job to a younger, cheaper Czech.

Seriously. I loved everything Chytil brought to Pitt the other night.

If he can be more consistent with that style of play and decision making, plus, boost his faceoff numbers, NYR will be rolling a lot better with -that version- of Philip running the 2nd line and Strome patrolling (overpaid) 3rd line duty till trade, expansion, or contract runs out.

Not sure if this has been discussed here (there’s a thread on the main boards) but I kind of like the idea of going after Duncan Keith as a relatively short-term solution on the left side. Has 2 more years left on his contract after this one and could fill in the gap on our left D while Robertson or Jones hopefully develops into an NHL player. Not sure he’d waive or Chicago would go for this, but something around him for DeAngelo (with potentially salary or other minor pieces being exchanged to balance it out.

Not the player he once was, but could still slot in well as a partner this year for Trouba and then potentially move down the lineup as he ages while providing that valuable “veteran leadership”.

Keith-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Smith

Next year could have something like:
Miller-trouba
Keith-Fox
Lindgren-Lundqvist

I do not want a 37 year old with 2 years left.

Well, not the effort, but I do agree that both Strome and Panarin have been over-playing the puck a lot the first few games.

They've been making choices in tight coverage that usually only really work when you've got time and space, leading to a lot of giveaways.

I know all the NHLs top players give the puck up a lot, but just a simple play is sometimes acceptable, even from your skill lines.

If you could have 1 player back from the last core, who would you pick? McDonagh or Hayes?

Would totally depend on the contract but psoitionally McDonagh would really fix a lot of whats wrong with our d, but if we're talking with their contracts, Hayes.

If I'm the Rangers, I'm looking really hard at drafting Jesper Wallstedt with our 1st this year if it's in the 8-14 range, which is where it looks like we're going to end up. It's not the end of the world if we do, but I was hoping to be in playoff contention this season with next season starting the contending window. Shesterkin has done little to instill confidence that he's the guy for the next decade so far this season.

There's still too much dead weight on this team. Strome, Smith, and Johnson all need to go and be replaced. Zibanejad is playing like he's recovering from COVID. I give him a pass there. Don't know WTF is wrong with Kreider and Panarin. I thought the former trained at Prentiss this past summer? He looks turrible. Panarin looks like he's been drinking vodka in quarantine and hadn't laced up the skates between Game 3 against Carolina and January 3rd when training camp opened. He just looks out of shape and slow.

Lafreniere is so snake bitten. You can see the ability there but he looks like someone that's afraid of making a mistake, as is Kakko. Where is the confidence that they had in their draft years when they looked like line drivers? Is it the coaching?
