You can’t let DeAngelo walk but Strome I would be 50/50

I think they could have absolutely gotten someone who is just as good for 75% of the price and would be a more useful player all around

But I also understand why they kept him
They signed him at the very last moment. Edge told us Gorton was speaking with a few teams (Ottawa) for him. Strome is not a long term fixture here.

So yeah now that the trade has gone through and the Jackets have played (and won!) and players have talked about it, it's pretty clear that the room, not Torts, forced the issue here.

They had a semi similar situation the other year with Panarin/Bobrovsky. Those guys addressed it internally and got through the season successfully (and they could have very easily come out of the East, they gave Boston everything they could handle.)

PLD didn't choose to go about it this way. Jackets players are being verrrry diplomatic in their answers, but you can tell that they were/are pretty pissed at him.
You are reading whole tomes between the lines here.

Just thinking aloud here, but Strome for Logan Brown could be an interesting basis for a deal if Ottawa still has interest in Strome.

I'd say that they'll likely wait a whole before looking to move Strome, but then again they sent Namestnikov to Ottawa pretty early after signing him.

Yikes didn’t see that someone did an IP grab that located the account to Pittsburgh

It might actually be him lol

The Rangers gotta trade this dude, the fact that it’s totally plausible is ridiculous. He’s like a ticking time bomb lol

Pretty anecdotal; there are no Rangers fans living in Pittsburgh? A city of how many hundreds of thousands?

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt but it's not about what's the probability that you're a Rangers fan if you're in Pittsburgh, it's about what's the probability that you're in Pittsburgh if you're a Rangers fan. For the math people out there, it's Bayes Theorem. Sorry had to nerd it out a bit since this probably the first time I'm using it outside of a classroom setting.

I’m a Rangers fan and I’ve lived across the eastern side of PA and also NC. Not sure why the odds would be much different for western PA.

It's not about Pittsburgh per se. It's just there are a lot off Rangers fans all over the country and if this were some Rangers fan what are the odds that he'd be living in Pittsburgh (where the game took place) vs. anywhere else in the country.

Well, it began as him defending DeAngelo’s shootout attempt against the Pens, or rather saying it wasn’t his fault just because he failed to score. So a Ranger fan in Pittsburgh who just watched the Rangers lose to Pittsburgh goes online and starts defending a player he likes and... off we go.

I guess a Rangers fan in Pittsburgh would have better access to a game in Pittsburgh than a Rangers fan in Minnesota. I guess that's fair.

Maybe someone mentioned this already, BUT

could this be a situation of the team backing the coach and the style they play?

The statement from Foligno kind alludes to a style of play needed.

Torts gets shit on for rubbing guys the wrong way, maybe we should also recognize when players support him conversely.

Interesting angle

Ya know, I'm actually glad Strome is playing like garbage so far. Because ultimately it means Chytil gets more ice time and more responsibility -- that's a much better positive in the long run. If Chytil proves his a top 6 center by years end, that's a huge victory for this team. Or even a top 6 forward, also a big win. We have decisions coming up on Buch and Strome.

I remember one shift in squirts when I slammed the bench door- my father gave me a 30 minute lecture after the game about how real men keep their emotions in check, so maybe I'm biased, but It's not something I like in a player.[/QUOTE]

The first time I scored a goal in soccer I had some kind of asshat celebration. After the game my dad said nice goal, act like you've done before and maybe you'll get to do it again. Point was well taken and very applicable to many things in life. Americans are having a hard time raising stoics these days...

Yeah it just kind of reinforces the fact that I really really would have preferred the one year arbitration award for Strome.

Then we could have moved him at the deadline for peanuts as a worst case scenario or just kept him as a bottom 6 player for the duration of the season.

As it stands that second year probably means we'd have to retain salary if we wanted to move him out for even a 5th round pick.

Ah well. Worst case scenario he can be an extremely overpaid 3rd line next year who occasionally cycles in due to injuries.

Of course the whole thing is moot unless

A) Panarin and Zibanejad team up (Hurts our depth)
B) Chytil shows he can play with Panarin and Kakko instead of PDG and Kakko (IMO the long term solution)
c) Howden steps up and playes with Panarin (I like his play so far but kid still screams 3C ceiling to me)

Well, dream scenario, Seattle picks Strome.

It didn't take long for the thrash Kreider threads to start this year. 4 Games in. My point on Strome and ADA is we should have let them walk or traded them for a bag of pucks and used the money saved to bring in a legitimate center to help our youngsters develop. We don't need ADA.
So it's a young season for Kreider, but twas a long and arduous journey of 12 periods with Strome and Deangelo. Or we can only critique players you dislike?
