I'm so tired of the DeAngelo and Twitter saga. Back to finding him a partner...I'm going to make my last post of the day and the last post before my BDay about Hajek and Bitteto.

So even more disturbing than Quinn's obsession with Johnson and making us miss Smith, is the deal with Hajek and Bitteto.

The former was the centerpiece of a huge trade and is still young enough to develop. By not playing him you're lowering whatever value he has left and not helping him develop. Plus can he really be worse than Johnson?

The later you need to get in three games for expansion draft requirements and what I remember of him in Winnipeg was he was fine. Not good but not terrible, just kind of there as a third pair guy which is what Tony D needs now. Plus once again, can he really be worse than Johnson?

As for posting in general I'm definitely going to be more of an observer of this board at least for the short term. I'll still chime in from time to time probably once every 2-3 weeks for an hour or so but there's a combination of work not easing up like it was supposed to ("sigh" I won't complain that much given how good I have it compared to a lot of people during covid...just a little frustrating when I have other stuff to do on weekends), my car is starting to go so I need to begin the research to buy a new one which is a 4-6 month process with how long I've been out of the game, and then the other things...

I wasn't "hurt" by responses to the rant I went on with Larry's article on Tony D believe me I didn't lose sleep over it just more so I was a little mocked and it added to the overall negative vibe I'm getting from here lately (I'll bring it back for my final point). As I close out my 30s I have to allocate my energy a little better and fighting every point I make on a hockey message boards with people 10-20 years my junior who don't see the world the same way or have the frame of reference I do is taxing ("you only have so many F^#@s to give in one day, use them wisely").

Lastly, in a lot of ways it's the best time and the worst time to be a Rangers fan. The best because of the talent, the worst because clearly there is a coach who is in over his head and is doing a terrible job. It's causing a lot of negativity here. I think the bottom line is to view the next four months as an experiment to see who can develop in spite of this doofus and trying to add many pieces for a playoff run isn't the answer because clearly this guy needs to go and they need to add some vets to mentor a very young team.

I would not be surprised if the Rangers pick top 5 or end up with Power or one of the stud Ds which will further cause the need to get Tony D and some of the B-tier LHD prospects out of here for sandpaper upgrades.

It didn't take long for the thrash Kreider threads to start this year. 4 Games in. My point on Strome and ADA is we should have let them walk or traded them for a bag of pucks and used the money saved to bring in a legitimate center to help our youngsters develop. We don't need ADA. Yeah every once in a while he will burst out offensively and everyone thinks he is the next Bobby Orr when reality is his presence in the D end is horrible. Last night's 3rd Penguin goal living proof. As for Strome, his only contribution this year will be keeping the goals scored by his wings down.

Kreider has been a 25/25 guy with speed and a work ethic, for nearly his entire career. He's probably the 90th best forward in the NHL (top end middle 6 F), and is paid like the 60th best forward (lower end of bona fide 1st liners). That's roughly a $1m overpayment. That's fine. If he reverts to "merely" 21G/22A, then that's still good for "solid 2nd liner," and still only roughly $2m overpaid. He'll be fine value for more than half of the deal. Worrying that he will have literally his worst season ever within the next three years is some "sky is falling" stuff.

This is the type of ridiculousness that is just way too far in the other direction. It's crazy the agenda some people have against DeAngelo.

"Yeah every once in a while he will burst out offensively" = top 5 in dman scoring last year?

And trying to pin the 3rd goal last night on him...I mean, what? He took his man in the slot. Mika failed to cover Blueger. Mika matched up with Blueger briefly in the slot, then turned his focus away and lost him.

Thank you for the post. I was gonna reply but thankfully you said it perfectly so I didn't have to waste my time. It's gonna be a tough year on here unless ADA puts up a ppg and drags JJ all around the ice like he did with Staal last year otherwise he's gonna get lambasted for everything.

There’s almost no chance it’s actually Tony considering the accounts first tweet was like 20 mins after the game ended last night

Now it’s very possible it’s his brother though

That said if it is actually Tonys account he’s an idiot

I wonder if Tony D has an account on HF boards.

So the real question is: when the next Webster appears around here?

Anyways, as a change of topic, it will be interesting to see whether Laine moving to Columbus affects Barkov's next destination / contract. As someone around here mentioned earlier, he and Laine are somewhat tight and an opportunity to build something together through the hand of Kekäläinen might be an intriguing one.

People panicking about kreider when he literally starts every season like this come on guys he’s been here 10 years you’re surprised he’s starting slow?

I think after a loss a lot of people's reactions are just to blame anyone who is currently producing below that their average level is.

It's one of the reasons why I don't take most fans take on player competency seriously except in the offseason when tempers are cool.

He's going to get heat because he just signed a big contract which most of this place was divided on. But this Kreider is a "slow starter" thing is a myth.

All numbers from the month of October..

2019-20 - 2-4-6 in 10
2018-19 - 6-3-9 in 12
2017-18 - 3-3-6 in 13
2016-17 - 3-4-7 in 5
2015-16 - 1-4-5 in 11
2014-15 - 2-4-6 in 9

Those are the seasons where he started the season with the Rangers (he was an early call up in 2013-14.) Of the 6 seasons, I'd only categorize 2 as slow starts.

He's been virtually non-existent this year. It's been 4 games so its not freak out time yet (for all we know, he lights it up over the next 4) but hes been bad so far. Not Strome bad, but still bad.

So yeah now that the trade has gone through and the Jackets have played (and won!) and players have talked about it, it's pretty clear that the room, not Torts, forced the issue here.

They had a semi similar situation the other year with Panarin/Bobrovsky. Those guys addressed it internally and got through the season successfully (and they could have very easily come out of the East, they gave Boston everything they could handle.)

PLD didn't choose to go about it this way. Jackets players are being verrrry diplomatic in their answers, but you can tell that they were/are pretty pissed at him.

Nick Foligno: " we have absolutely no hard feelings towards PLD but any player who doesn't want to be here can go f*** himself and we're glad he's gone forever"

Ryan Strome to Ottawa
Colin White and Drake Batherson to Rangers fair trade???
I don’t mean to come off like ahole but have you seen Batherson play? I’m sure you’ve seen Strome play. They couldn’t be at the opposite ends of the spectrum value wise

You’re point is pretty much horseshit considering you’re trying to convince us it would have been a good idea to let assets walk for nothing. This might be one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever read here.

To join you in your response:

Forget about letting RFAs walk with no return, I’m forgetting which legitimate centers were out there for us to allocate that money to. Please don’t say Granlund.

You can’t let DeAngelo walk but Strome I would be 50/50

I think they could have absolutely gotten someone who is just as good for 75% of the price and would be a more useful player all around

But I also understand why they kept him
